You have been selected to fly on a top-secret mission to attack the stronghold of a fanatical Mideast terrorist organization. They are well-armed and have the backing of several "unfriendly governments," so your only two advantages are the stealth fighter that you will fly and your own combat skills. Good luck, because you're gonna need it....

A dogfighting simulation that reminds one of the original Wing Commander. The cockpit takes up so much of the screen that you can't see whats going on! Boring and unimpressive.

Air Duel is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up arcade game released by Irem in 1990. You can select from a fighter jet or helicopter, shoot enemies in the air and ground, collect power-ups, and defeat bosses to advance levels.

The game differs from most others in the genre in that you can change the aircraft you use at the start of each new level. The fighter always shoots straight forward, though power ups multiply the width and power of its shots. The helicopter can spray shots diagonally, but always fires a narrow beam. Power ups give it more rapid fire.

There are no different kinds of weapons, only different levels of power, and losing a life resets your power to the level you start with. "Air Duel" is a challenging game, and later levels become nearly unplayable if a single life is lost.

Both the fighter and the helicopter also start with three bombs which wipe out everything in their path, including enemy shots. Additional bombs can be picked up during the course of the game.

Air Zonk was an attempt to update the company's image via a modern, punkish character called Zonk, who bears a purposeful resemblance to the Turbo's caveman mascot, Bonk.

This rare title takes the Turbografx's prehistoric, platform-jumping mascot and incorporates him into a wild, quirky side-scrolling shooter. You can tell Zonk and his friends are from the future because they all wear sunglasses! Air Zonk features attractive, cartoonish graphics rendered with bright colors and huge sprites.

Air Zonk is generally fun but there are a few issues. While the bosses look terrific, they tend to consume most of the screen and their projectiles are awfully hard to avoid. If you're playing for score, you'd better keep an eye on it, because the second you lose that final life it disappears. Air Zonk's soundtrack is probably its best feature, pumping out some of the best tunes I've heard on this system.

The player controls a fighter jet and shoot enemies in the air and on the ground, collects power-ups, and defeat bosses to advance levels. The player must collect four power ups to upgrade their weapon. There are four weapon types:

"L"(blue)- Shining Laser, a narrow but exceptionally powerful beam of blue energy.
"S"(green)- Hunter Seeker, a support drone that fires twin bolts of green energy in three directions. The first direction is always straight forward, while the other two directions are changed by the player's motion, rotating while staying 180 degrees apart. If the fire button is kept pressed down, the guns will not rotate while moving.
"M"(yellow)- Tracing Missile, releasing periodic swarms of homing missiles alongside rapid bursts of forward dumbfire missiles.
"F"(red)- Gatling Fire, a spread-out vulcan bullet shot.

Four levels of power-ups are available for each weapon, however each level requires four power up tokens be collected. There are also two special "bomb" weapons available for collection - green Energy Spark for a screen-covering swarm of lower-power bombs and blue Thunder Drive for a narrower and more focused attack. The Energy Spark clears all bullets from the screen, while the Thunder Drive only clears bullets that actually touch the blast. This blast starts momentarily atop the player, but quickly moves forward a short distance and stays stationary for a few seconds before dissipating.

From the outside, Airwolf looks like a sophisticated executive helicopter. Slick. Self-contained. Harmless. Which means it can slip in and out of airports without causing much suspicion.

But from the inside, its true military strength is revealed; walls of computerized controls, a satellite tracking system for locating enemies and allies, and a weapons guidance system for launching missiles and firing machine guns.

The players control a "Tom Tiger" helicopter (in the 2D stage) and later a "Jerry Mouse" fighter jet (in the 3D stage), and shoot enemies in the air and bomb them on the ground, collecting power-ups and defeating bosses to advance levels.

The game takes place in a fictional 2007 where the Earth has been conquered by alien invaders. The player combats the occupation forces using vehicles under operation code named 'A-Jax' created to liberate the Earth. Game play is divided into two scrolling sections with two different vehicles: the first being a vertical scrolling section with the helicopter and a Rail scrolling stage with the jet/space fighter. The game spans eight stages and extends are set to 30,000 and a second at 150,000 points.

During the helicopter segments, the player has access to four different weapons including the Vulcan, Bomb, 3-Way, Triple and Laser. Each weapon is available through their own specific pick-up icon. However, the helicopter can only equip one firing weapon at a time with the Bomb being constant. The player also has access to Options which add additional firepower. The jet segments contrast highly from the helicopter segments in the complete lack of available power-ups and additional weapons beyond a machine gun and bomb.
