Originally designed to take advantage of the Super NES' "Mode 7" effect for pseudo-3D backgrounds, Axelay is a futuristic shooter alternating between side- and vertical-scrolling stages. Pilot a sleek spacecraft while engaging an assortment of hostile threats on planets comprised of lava, water, clouds, rock, and more. In a departure from typical entries in the genre, Axelay does not feature collectible power-ups to enhance your ship's offensive capabilities. Instead, new munitions are automatically awarded upon completing certain levels. You must then decide which air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons to bring with you on subsequent stages. Choose from three difficulty settings and battle through six levels in total, each culminating in a boss fight, to save the galaxy from an alliterate enemy known as the "Armada of Annihilation."

Barunba is a multi-directorional shooter developed by Zap Corp and published by Namco. The evil Dr Dopperu has plans of world domination and his army of robots brings terror and destruction everywhere they go. The antigravity-ship Barunba is sent to stop the massive threat and to restore peace to the region. The globe-shaped fighter comes equipped with a rather unusual weapon system - a rotating ring is mounted around the ship and gives it the peculiar ability to shoot in any direction (the first action button rotates the ring clockwise and the Run button anticlockwise). The Barunba is also equipped with a fair arsenal of lethal weapons that range from a fast-paced and conventional Vulcan gun (V) to a slow piercing laser (L), powerful Napalm Bombs (N) and a round Shield beam (S) that can be charged up and used as a shield. Each weapon can be switched to on the fly by pressing Select, and they can be individually upgraded up to three times (five upgrade slots and three power levels total) - curiously, they apparently lose their power overtime and need to be regularly upgraded. Barunba consists of five large stages (each featuring a mid-way boss as well as a tougher final boss) and is single-player only.

Destroy different enemy tanks, while trying to keep them away from your base. When you have destroyed 20 enemy tanks you advance to the next level with different layout. In each level there's some obstacles which you can use to your advantage. Obstacles include red bricks which you can shoot out of your way, silver bricks which are highly armored, water and ice. You start the game with a basic tank, which you can power up to better one little by little.

The game includes a construction mode, so you can make your own levels when you have played through all the 35 original levels.

Namco originally never licensed Battle City when it distributed it for the NES and Famicom. Due to the game's popularity it did how ever get the game licensed as to have it appear on Nintendo's Vs. Coin-op machines. This license carried over to both Battle City for the Gameboy and Namco Gallery Vol. 1, Battle City & Galaga.

Battle City, also known as Tank 1990 or Tank in some pirate multicarts releases is a multi-directional shooter video game for the Nintendo Family Computer produced and published in 1985 by Namco. The game was later released for the Game Boy (1991)

Battle City contains 35 different stages that are 13 units wide by 13 units high. Each map contains different types of terrain and obstacles. Examples include brick walls that can be destroyed by having either the player's Tank or an enemy Tank shoot at them, steel walls that can be destroyed by the player if he has collected three or more power-up stars, bushes that hide Tanks under them, ice fields that make it difficult to control Tank and pools of water which cannot be crossed by Tanks. There are four progressively harder types of enemy Tanks. The game becomes more challenging in later levels, as enemy Tanks may act as decoys to lure players away from their base so that another Tank can destroy it. In addition, flashing Tanks could be destroyed for power-ups. There are several types of power-ups: Tank symbol gives an extra life, star improves player's Tank (having one star make shots faster, having two stars allow two simultaneous shots, having three stars allow the player to destroy steel), bomb destroys all visible enemy Tanks, clock freezes all enemy Tanks for a period of time, shovel adds steel walls around the base for a period of time and shield makes player's Tank invulnerable to attack for a period of time.

The Game Boy version is more challenging, as the screen is too small to display the whole map and only enough to display one part of it. Players often would have to scroll to different parts of the map to view them and everything in them. As a result, defending the base is even more difficult, while the player is occupied with enemies on one part of the map, other enemies could sneak past the player and right to the base, destroying it without fear of retaliation and by complete surprise. A radar is in the Game Boy version, but not in the NES version.

A very simple hack. The object of the game is to destroy the opponent's ship before it destroys you. You must maneuver your ship left and right to get a good shot on your opponent while evading his shots at the same time. To further complicate things there's a series of two asteroid belts moving across the field between you and your opponent.

The first game in the Strike series. A year after the Gulf War, a self styled General named Kilbaba (Muababa in the GBA version) takes over an Arab Emirate and threatens to start WWIII against its enemy in the West, the U.S. The whole world holds their breath as the President chooses you to destroy Kilbaba and his terrorist army before he launches a nuclear attack on the world!

You must fly an specially designed AH-64A Apache on a series of missions from rescuing MIAs, destroying power plants, to blowing apart SCUD missles! Take out his defenses while trying to find out Kilbaba's plans. Take on the Madman and forever rid this threat....in the desert!

The classic wargame is brilliantly recreated on the Master System. Everything from the Mega Drive version has been included here. A real programming achievement and top of any Master System owner's list.

Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf, commonly known as Desert Strike, is a shoot 'em up video game released by Electronic Arts (EA) in February 1992 for Sega's Mega Drive. The game was later released on several other formats such as the Game Boy in 1994.

Desert Strike is a shoot 'em up game in which the player pilots an AH-64 Apache helicopter. The game is less frantic than typical shoot 'em ups, with the addition of greater strategic elements. The action takes place on open, multi-directional scrolling levels viewed from an isometric perspective. The player views the action from outside the helicopter, rather than from within the cockpit.

Levels consist of several missions, which are based around the destruction of enemy weapons and installations, as well as rescuing hostages or prisoners of war, or capturing enemy personnel. The Apache is armed with a chain gun, more powerful Hydra rockets and yet more deadly Hellfire missiles. The more powerful the weapon, the fewer can be carried: the player must choose an appropriate weapon for each situation. Enemy weapons range from soldiers with small arms, to anti-aircraft missiles to tanks and armoured cars.

The player's craft has a limited amount of armour, which is depleted as the helicopter is hit by enemy fire. Should the armour reach zero, the craft will be destroyed, losing the player a life. The player must outmanoeuvre enemies to avoid damage, but can replenish armour by means of power-ups or by airlifting rescued friendlies or captives to a landing zone. The helicopter has a finite amount of fuel which is steadily depleted over time. Should the fuel run out the Apache will crash, again costing the player a life. The craft can refuel by collecting fuel barrels: the player must therefore plan mission routes carefully in order to maximise efficiency. The helicopter also carries limited ammunition, which must be replenished by means of ammo crates.

The player encounters an array of enemy hardware, including the Rapier, VDA, ZSU, M48 and Crotale. Enemy soldiers are armed with AK-47s and Aphids.

It takes a special breed of pilot to join the Strike Team - one who's an expert in air-to-air and air-to- ground combat, one who's ready to fly at a moment's notice, one who won't fold when things begin to get hairy. With the rise in global terrorism, the Strike Team is looking for new recruits to face the ever-growing dangers of modern life. Will you be the one that will save the world?

Not a shoot 'em up in the true sense, as the game applies a healthy dose of real-world military combat, but still lots of of fun nonetheless. The isometric perspective does take some getting used to, though, but once that's done you can sit back and enjoy a truly awesome game.

In Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf, inspired by the Gulf War, you get to blow away a fanatical MidEast dictator and his desert-based loon squad.

The orders say we can afford to have a full scale war; that's why we need you. Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf has one basic goal: stop the Middle East aggressor. You a skilled pilot of a Apache attack helicopter are needed to perform surgical strikes on key targets. Be careful, because the missions are more difficult then just knocking out the targets, chemical plants and Scud missiles -- you are needed to rescue MIA's, destroy radar, bomb emeny air bases, and stop oil spills.

All objectives are realistic, and so are the ememies. The missions are flown over a 3D desert landscape. Watch out for the ememy boggies. Mission data, tactical maps and game information are available on the on-board computer. Enjoy the sensation of flying the Apache attack copter. The Desert Strike is in your hands... feel free to Return to the Gulf more than once.
