The story of a mutant humanoid who embarks on a long and dangerous quest to gain true humanity; and once having found it, must embark upon another quest to save that which he holds most dear. Ported from the now-legendary series of Amiga arcade games that made Psygnosis a name of whispered reverence among gaming fans.
Well I remember when the first game was released for the Amiga and blew everyone away with its mind-numbing graphics, spectacular stereo music tracks, and intense gameplay. It's a real shame that the Genesis music is only an echo of the original (not to mention the loss of the intermission artwork from the first game and the intro from the second), but the eye-popping graphics and frustratingly hard gameplay are still there. Handicapped as they are, the Genesis ports are equal or superior to the SNES versions in evey single category. If you can't get the Amiga originals, then play the Genesis version!

Shadow of the Beast is a 2D Platformer game, developed and published by Psygnosis, which was cancelled before it was released.
The first game's story is about a man named Aarbron who was kidnapped as a child and corrupted through magic into a monstrous warrior-servant for the evil beast lord Maletoth. The creature's memory of his human life returns when he watches a man being executed, whom he later recognizes as his father. This prompts Aarbron to seek revenge on Maletoth.

It is the fourth game in the Star Soldier series and the last one for TurboGrafx-16. On the surface, Soldier Blade is a less-than-spectacular vertical shooter against armies of non-descript machines. The space station backgrounds are nicely detailed, but most of the scenery appears static and uninspired. Enemies assume the form of jets, tanks, cannons, and large shapeless chunks of metal floating in the sky. That's okay, because none of them stick around for long. Soldier Blade may not look like much, but in terms of pure gameplay, this is a shooter fan's dream.
Unlike most shooters that ramp up gradually, Soldier Blade turns up the heat immediately. Not only does the action get off to a fast start, but it never lets up, and your firepower is devastating from beginning to end. When you're spraying the screen with green waves, or wiping away enemies with your blue electric beams, you start to wonder, "How could I possibly die?" In addition to your awesome main weapons, you have a special attack that performs your dirty work for you, including one that resembles a ghostly head that "sits" on enemies while zapping their strength.
It's nice how the game alerts you about enemies sneaking up from behind, and I also like how taking a hit reduces your firepower instead of destroying you outright. The bosses are forgettable but well spaced and thankfully don't overstay their welcome. There's no slow-down or break-up to speak of, and topping it all off, the electronic soundtrack is terrific! If shooters are your thing, you really can't go wrong with Soldier Blade.

The first "slide-and-shoot" game, Space Invaders has players piloting a laser base that moves right and left along the bottom of the screen, firing upward at descending aliens. Each wave of invaders consists of 55 enemies grouped in 11 columns, moving in unison horizontally, and dropping a level each time they reach either side of the screen. The player's job is to destroy the invaders before they reach the bottom of the playfield. Eliminating the Mystery Ship that flies intermittently over the top row of invaders will earn the player Bonus points. Positioned across the lower section of the screen lie four bunkers, under which players can hide. However, the bunkers erode piece-by-piece when shot by enemy or friendly fire. In addition to being the first of its type, Space Invaders was the first game to post a continuous high score (assuming no one unplugs the machine). Other groundbreaking features include menacing sound effects, addictive gameplay and a high degree of character design and animation. The game was enormously popular, with more than 60,000 machines sold in its first year of production in the U.S. It was such a hit in Japan that it caused a shortage of the 100-yen piece used to play the game.

In 1978, Earth successfully repulsed an invasion from outer space thanks to "the Tank." The Tank was based on alien technology found when a scout ship had crashed years earlier. Now, over 20 years later, a new Tank has been created based on the technology recovered during the 1978 invasion. And none too soon, because the Invaders are back!
Space Invaders is yet another classic arcade game remake by Activision. (See Battlezone and Asteroids.) But this time, Activision licensed a game from Taito instead of Atari. The game stays close to its roots while adding many power-ups and enemies.
You can play either one or two players against the Invaders, who march down the screen in orderly rows and columns, at one of three skill levels. You'll start at Pluto and work your way through the Solar System to Mars, then Venus, and finally Earth. There are four common aliens (red, green, blue, and yellow), plus seven more less common ones. You receive special one shot power-ups by shooting four of the same type of Invaders in a row. As in the original game, there are also Mother Ships that fly above the action, but in this version if you hit them you can pick up other useful power-ups like shields or double shots. Plus, after fighting off several waves on each planet, you'll face a unique boss. If you manage to finish the game, you'll be able to play a reproduction of the original coin-op.

Space Invaders is quite simply the most influential video-game of all time. A single player moves an armed 'base' left or right along the bottom of the screen and shoots the endless waves of aliens marching relentlessly down the screen towards earth.
There are four buildings (shields) at the bottom of the screen that the player can hide behind, but these will eventually be destroyed by either enemy missiles or by direct contact with the invaders themselves. The player's shots will also destroy the shields.
The aliens' descent quickens as they are eliminated, making them harder to hit. A flying saucer will fly across the top of the screen at regular intervals and can be shot to earn extra points.

Updated versions of the original classic arcade shooter with a few new tricks up its sleeve. The premise is the same, though - you are presented with a screenfull of aliens, and you must blow them ALL away before they get all the way to the bottom and destroy you.
While it won't trump the simple purity of the original, it's well worth the look. Ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum....

A modern and fitting tribute to Taito's 1978 seminal shoot-em-up, "Space Invaders".
There are now 3 different game modes to choose from. These include a faithful recreation of the legendary original - available in both upright and cocktail versions - and replete with a simulation of the infamous "coloured plastic overlay" that was used to add the impression of full colour graphics to the original game.
The 2 remaining game modes are 'Versus', with simultaneous split-screen 2-player action, and "Parody", which features characters and graphics from other well-known Taito games, such as "The New Zealand Story", "Bubble Bobble" and "Liquid Kids". Despite the graphical changes, the Parody version plays useridentically to the original game, and all modes retain the original, legendary sound effects.

Port of the second of the two popular Amiga games, which are best described as the Bitmap Brother's digital homage to the classic sci-fi feature film Rollerball. Speedball is a fast-pased and often violent form of human polo invented in the future by the megacorporations to placate the restless masses.
The only thing missing from the Amiga original are the awesome background music tracks. Great graphics, great gameplay, adequate sound.
