Story:
The game takes place immediately after its predecessor, James Pond. Although Acme Oil Co. has been destroyed by James Pond, Pond's arch enemy Dr Maybe survived and has retreated to the North Pole where he has taken over Santa's workshop. Dr Maybe is holding Santa's workers hostage, and has turned many of Santa's helpers into his own twisted and dangerous assistants. James Pond is recruited to infiltrate Santa's grotto, free the captive penguins, retrieve the stolen toys for the children of the world, and defeat Dr Maybe once and for all. This time, however, due to the greater risks involved in this mission, Pond is given a robotic suit and the code name "RoboCod". This suit gives Pond superhuman strength and agility as well as enabling him to stretch his midsection almost indefinitely and reach otherwise impossibly high areas.

Gameplay:
James starts outside Santa's toy factory. There are many doors, each of which leads to a stage with many differently-themed levels, 50 in total. Hostile creatures lurk in these levels, and they come in many forms. There are no weapons in the game, so James must jump on them to defeat them. After completing two "doors", James goes on to another door where a boss awaits.

James's body armour enables him to extend his body vertically to incredible lengths and grab hold of the ceiling or platforms above him. This allows him to travel along the ceiling and drop down on the top of an unsuspecting enemy, or to get to otherwise inaccessible areas. James can also pick up items that provide points. Power-ups include extra lives and wings that grant James the ability to fly. From time to time James may enter vehicles, namely cars, planes or flying bathtubs.

A tongue-in-cheek tribute to the James Bond films from one of the better British programming houses. Help secret agent James Pond as he battles the wits and many minions of the evil Dr. Maybe.

Pond's third and best outing, great graphics and sound really made this stand out, however it is sometimes a bit tricky and gets a bit lost amongst all the other platformers available for the genesis. Still worth a play though.

Like the other James Pond games, Operation Starfish is a comical cartoonish platform game starring an orange fish called James Pond, although this game draws more from science fiction films then from spy films as the previous games in the series. The game's plot involves Pond's archenemy, Dr. Maybe, constructing a stronghold on the Moon so that he can mine it for cheese, so Pond and his sidekick Finnius the Frog travel to the Moon to penetrate his stronghold and foil his evil plans of taking over the dairy industry.

The gameplay in Operation Starfish is similar to the SNES game Super Mario World. The map of the Moon consists of many levels connected with pathways. Based on the humorous legend that the Moon is made of cheese, all levels are named after different dairy products, such as "The Garden of Edam", after the Garden of Eden. A unique twist to the standard "Super Mario"-style gameplay is that Pond's magno-boots allow him to walk on the Moon's cheesy surface in any orientation, even upside down. Operation Starfish was one of the largest games to be made for the Sega Mega Drive. The goal of each level is to find one of its communication beacons and break it. Some beacons require activating first by finding special cups.

Pond can run, jump and punch as standard. He can also use various items lying around, such as spring shoes, fruit guns and dynamite. By finding a special icon, players can play as his froggy partner, Finnius, who has superior jumping abilities.

In his second adventure James Pond must retrieve the toys Dr Maybe has stolen. Pond has been armed with an Inspector Gadget-style stretch device, which he can use to view higher areas or claw onto ceilings so as to slide across them.

The gameplay takes place across worlds themed around particular types of toys, such as sporting goods, candy and aircraft. The levels scroll sideways, although a small amount of vertical movement is included. On each level Pond must collect 2 penguins and reach the exit, although there are usually multiple exits and lots of secret areas to explore. After completing each pair of two worlds (each of which has three sub levels), a boss must be faced.

Now that he's finished with the bad guys, super secret agent James Pond has decided to relax by doing his most favorite thing in the whole world...alright, his SECOND most favorite thing in the whole world - track and field with his friends, the Aquabats!

A spinoff from the James Pond trilogy of action games, this tongue-in-cheek homage to the multisports sim would be decent even without the aquatic theme.
