An unusual pseudo-3D fighter that eschews the traditional SF2-style platform approach in favor of superdeformed characters matched together in ring-style bouts.

Looks rather comical, but is well done. Takes some getting used to, though, so you might want to save it for those days when you're tired of standard fighting fare.

Players adopt the persona of Colonel Scott O'Connor, a military agent who has transferred his brain into raw binary code in order to combat a rogue program in the main defense computer. When O'Connor enters the system, his body forms the self-image of his ancestors, who were Kabuki actors.

One day, a mysterious theme park called Karakuri Land appeared in Edo. In it were various mechanical attractions, built around different themes. Many people went to visit, and the park was very popular. The princess asked Yanchamaru if he would like to go with her, but since he was busy with his training, she went by herself. However, she didn't come back, and so Yanchamaru must make his way through the oddly-aggressive attractions to find and rescue the princess!

Kaiketsu Yanchamaru 2 is the sequel to Kid Niki, and once again stars the big-headed, sword-spinning, headband-sporting fighter Yanchamaru. Each stage is based around a theme, such as a world built from cakes and a world built from volcanoes, and each is filled with animatronic enemies, with a boss at the end. Yanchamaru has his trusty spinning sword, and can also find bonus items to improve his abilities and increase his score.

Kaizō Chōnin Shubibinman is a side scrolling action game by Masaya and published by NCS. A crazy, yet genius professor named "Doc" sends two of his brand new and most skilled cyborgs (a boy called Tasuke and a red haired girl named Kuapiko) against an army of evil machines that have taken over the city. With the help of their special suits and powerful energy-swords, they fight waves of enemies of increasing strength, as well as bigger and badder bosses until they eventually reach the lair of their furious leader - the evil Dark Skull. Unlike other games of its kind, the action starts in the professor's laboratory and players are free to choose the path the characters take until they finally reach their final destination - the Dark Skull's castle. The game is really flexible on that aspect of the gameplay - a map shows the locations of the various areas to visit and players can always go back and take a different path if they wish to. Although stages can be optionally skipped, some of them give players a chance to collect unique power-up items. Enemies drop all kind of items when killed - power-cells, invulnerability, super-jump, smart-bombs and so forth. They also drop gold bars and the accumulated treasure can be later used to purchase new upgrades from Doc's laboratory. Finally, a two player simultaneous mode is available where players can execute combination combos and attacks.

Kaizō Chōnin Shubibinman 2 is the sequel to the more than average first title released in 1989 for the PC Engine system. The strong Tasuke and the cute Kyapiko (aka Arnold and Sonya in the American version) are back in this intense side scrolling action game. This time around, our heroes have swapped their power-swords for more conventional laser guns. The guns can also be charged up (by holding the fire button) to unleash powerful blasts of energy. Another interesting feature of the game is the alternance of platform and shooting stages. For instance, right after the first level and the crazy chase jumping from building tops to building tops, our heroes embark on a pocket-submarine and get their way through a treacherous underwater cave. A two simultaneous player mode is available and, interestingly, both players share the same life bar.

A platform game in which the player controls a mother Kangaroo who must climb through the treetops trying to rescue her captured son. Numerous monkeys, the kidnappers of her child, roam the levels set on stopping the player's progress. The monkeys constantly throw apples at the Kangaroo which must either be avoided (either by ducking or jumping, depending on the height of the approaching apple), or punched away, the latter of which allows the Kangaroo to punch the apple back towards the attacking monkey.

If the player stalls for too long or does not punch either an apple or a monkey, a giant ape will appear and steal the Kangaroo's boxing gloves, leaving the player temporarily defenseless. The gloves are returned after a short time.

Fruit and vegetables litter the levels and can be picked up for bonus points. Each level also has a bell hanging from one of its platforms, which can be punched to make fruit and vegetable items appear. The game consists of 4 different stages, once these are completed the game begins again with an increased level of difficulty.

If you think you're good, think again! Start as a white belt battling another white belt in a 2-minute match of wits, skill and force. As your opponent steps toward you, do you stand your ground or step back or move into him? You block some of his kicks and punches, but how much can you take? Time ticks away, so you move in to unleash your arsenal of kicks and punches, trying for that elusive knockdown! When you win, you advance one belt: from white to red... all the way up to black belt expert. But when you lose, your opponent gets even tougher in the next match. You have to be good... or you may take the beating of your life!

A horizontally scrolling fighting game for 1 to 4 players. Each playable character (chosen from Mark, Glen, Akira and Gil) kicks and punches their way through a number of enemy-packed levels. In addition to kicking and punching, each character also has their own unique 'special attack'; a move that injures multiple on-screen enemies at the cost of some of the player's health.

While in no way original (drawing most of its inspiration from Capcom's "Final Fight"), Karate Blazers is both hugely playable and very fast and frenetic, with the amount of on-screen enemies at times overwhelming. The graphics are also well drawn and nicely animated.

A seminal 1-on-1 fighting game set over the course of a karate tournament, Karate Champ was the first game of its type and would influence every game of the fighting genre that followed. Karate Champ's control system utilised a somewhat awkward dual joystick control system, with simultaneous joystick manipulation required to execute even the simplest of kicks.

Based on the 1986 John G. Avildsen film, "The Karate Kid 2". The Karate Kid is a beat'em up game where you, as Daniel Larusso, must go through some stages (including bonus ones) from the karate competition to the final battle in Okinawa against Chozen. There are different kinds of stages, from the fighting style game (similar to Street Fighter) to the platform type like Kung Fu for NES, it also has some bonus in which your ability is tested.

Karate Tournament is a one-on-one fighting game for one or two players, based on the ancient and most well known of martial arts, Karate.

Players enter a karate tournament - having first selected their preferred skill level, from either White, Brown or Black belt - and fight against a number of progressively tougher opponents. Each victory awards the player with a higher belt grade within their current belt colour - white grade six to white grade five, for example - and if the player wins the tournament, he or she is awarded a higher belt colour and the game ends. If players chooses to play the game on the 'Black Belt' skill level, defeating opponents is awarded with a higher grade, or 'dan' of Black Belt.

Karate Tournament uses a distinctive graphical technique in that it 'morphs' some of the combatants' movement graphics to simulate speed and motion blur. The game was also unique upon its release in that, in a world of "Street Fighters" and "Mortal Kombats" - replete with fantastical special moves - Karate Tournament was a genuine simulation of a recognized martial art; something not really seen since the first appearance of Data East's legendary genre-defining fighter, "Karate Champ", released eight years' earlier in 1984.

The evil Akuma has destroyed your homeland, killed many of your friends and kidnapped your Princess Mariko. Fortunately, you are skilled in Martial Arts, so your inevitable quest to reach Akuma's palace has a chance of success.

The game is viewed from the side and features a succession of increasingly-difficult opponents. All the standard karate kicks and punches are available to both you and your foes. The game's design was serious and realistic, and the game featured lots of cutscenes to develop the story.
