Based on the feature film of the same name, CUTTHROAT ISLAND casts you in the role of a renegade treasure hunter. You can play as either Morgan Adams, the beautiful but deadly pirate who uses a rapier as well as any man; or William Shaw, a feared buccaneer who is armed with a sword and isn?t afraid to use it. You?ve got to battle your way through 10 levels of action, encountering pirates, redcoats, harbormasters, and a roster of other dastardly foes that will stop at nothing to put you out of commission permanently. There are two different gameplay styles to choose from: Swordplay, which offers standard sword-fighting action; or Brawling, which adopts a more traditional fighting-game style. So slip a bandana on your head, find that eye-patch, and get ready for swashbuckling action like you?ve never seen.

Enjoy swashbuckling action on the Spanish Main in this homage to old pirate films. Take your pick of one of the two protagonists from the live-action movie of the same name starring Geena Davis.

A typically mundane game which was part of the extensive merchandising behind one el-stinko bomb of a Hollywood film. Oh well, at least you get your choice of male or female characters to play, and the action is somewhat reminiscent of Golden Axe. Now if only those BGM tunes weren't so hideous.

Cybercross is a side-scrolling action game and was the second game released by Face for the PC engine system. It features armies of insectoid creatures and robots trying to take over the World. The player sets out to teach the invaders a lesson - he takes control of a super-hero who can turn into the powerful 'Cyber Cross'. Colored floating pods can help him in his task - any of them turns him into his combat-mode (charge power by pressing the fire button and release it for special attacks!). Three weapons are available throughout the game - special sword (red), laser gun (blue) and the Boomerang (green). But be aware that weapons are limited to a maximum of three, and our hero loses one each time he gets hit.

Based on the popular Manga of the same title, Cyborg 009 is a platform game. In each of the levels, you have assemble a three-cyborg squad with a pre-assigned leader. There are a total of eight (001 is not an available character) playable characters, each with their own specialty; 009, for example, can move really quickly , while 003 can see in the dark and has x-ray vision, so it's important to assemble a team that best suits the next level. There are power ups scattered in the levels which you can distribute to upgrade any of the eight cyborgs after completing a mission.

You are the toughest bounty hunter in the galaxy. Deep inside the enemy fortress, you can almost taste your next paycheck. Blast Cyborgs with your psycho gun. Win the battle with Vipron, the vile Cyborg leader. Prepare yourself for one explosive payday!

While the seven levels of the fortress you have to explore are certainly vast, they lack content. It's fun at first, but the repetition becomes very tedious and annoying.

Your spaceship has crash-landed on an alien world that is populated entirely by cyborgs. Near death, they save you by implanting your still-functioning brain into a cyborg body. Their intent is to reprogram you to become one of their laborers, but your unconscious mind successfully resists their best efforts, and you awake to find yourself in a hostile environment. You must use all the cunning and skill at your disposal, along with the capabilities of your new cyborg body, to fight off your many foes and escape before you are cornered and exterminated.

This game lets you build a robot from parts with different attributes, like jumping ability and attack power, then use it in a highly repetitive and graphically unimpressive brawling game. Bearable, but not great.

Fantasy hack and slash game in which up to four people can play at the same time, choosing from three stock fantasy characters (Knight, Wizard and Bard) and, for some reason, a Ninja. Players must then fight their way through enemy-packed levels, plundering treasure and avoiding the game's many traps. Gameplay is highly reminiscent of Atari's legendary 1985 classic, "Gauntlet".

Darkman was developed by Twilight and published by Ocean Software in 1991. It was released for the ZX Spectrum, NES, Amstrad CPC and Commodore 64. It was also ported to the Game Boy and Atari ST. The game's plot is loosely based on the film of the same name.

n this side-scrolling platformer, the player controls Darkman, a superhero who can jump, kick and punch, as well as swing from a rope during action sequences between levels. In each level, Darkman disguises himself as the boss of the level, whom he must defeat before the time limit elapses. Tying into the plot of the film, Darkman wears masks of various gangsters who are responsible for his disfigurement, but his disguise dissolves after being exposed to sunlight for too long. The character changes into a different member of the evil gang in each level, taking on their attack moves as well as their face.

In-between levels, Darkman must photograph his quarry before he can make a mask of them. These scenes involve moving the cursor to take a picture of the gangster. The better the photo accuracy, the more time Darkman is granted to complete the subsequent level. The final level is the most faithful to the film, and takes place on a skyscraper under construction. After the player defeats their mirror image five times and wipes out the mob cartel that scarred Darkman, the final boss is inexplicably a clone of Darkman himself.

A 3-D, side-scrolling fighting game. Based on the Bruce Willis movie of the same name, although the storyline is very different.

Take on the role of two SWAT team user who must fight their way through a terrorist-filled sky scraper to eventually reach and defeat the head of the terrorist organization and rescue the President's daughter.

The game gives a nod to Technos' legendary 1987 beat-em-up, "Double Dragon". If only one player completes the game, the girl simply says 'Thank You!' and the game ends. But if 2 players complete the game, the girl will announce that she wants one of the SWAT user to become her new bodyguard. The two players will then have to fight each other until one of them is defeated, with the winner becoming the girl's new bodyguard. If the timer expires before either player wins, the fight will be declared a draw and the girl will be undecided.

Help, DJ Boy! A local tough has kidnapped your girl, and he's getting away! Can you fight your way through his goons, catch up with him, and save the day?

A juvenile Double Dragon seemingly intended for the younger set. Not bad, but the sound design reminds me of somebody merrily banging away on a piece of sheet metal.

A funny roller-skating beat'em up game. You must recover DJ's stolen boom box through 5 different neighborhoods. Collect the musical notes that appear from the defeated baddies to earn stars, which when accumulated, earn extra lives.

The dance that the player character does is from Michael Jackson's live performances of the song 'Billie Jean'.

Features DJ 'Wolfman Jack' as the voice of the disc jockey.

Double Dragon is a 1987 beat 'em up developed by Technōs Japan and distributed in North America and Europe by Taito Corporation.
It was ported to the gameboy in 1990

The player takes control of martial artist Billy Lee, or his twin brother Jimmy (also known as Hammer and Spike in the supplementary materials for the American arcade release), as they fight their way into the turf of the Black Warriors gang in order to rescue their common love interest Marian. The player character has a repertoire of martial art techniques which they can perform by using the joystick and three action buttons (kick, jump, and punch) individually or in combination. Techniques range from basic punches and kicks, to more elaborate manoeuvres like hair grabbing moves and elbow strikes. When playing with another player, one can assist the other by grabbing their partner's opponent from behind. Caution should be taken, though, as some enemies are able to do the same thing to the players. The player begins the game with a certain number of extra lives and a life gauge which depletes as the player takes hits. If the life gauge runs out or the time limit reaches zero, the player will lose a life.

In a city destroyed by war and crime, you count on each other to survive! You are Billy and Jimmy Lee, the twins they call the Spike and the Hammer. When it comes to martial arts, you're both street lethal. Leaping kicks. Knee smashes. Judo throws. You are the masters.

Now get ready for the biggest battle of all. The Black Warriors, meanest gang in the city, has kidnapped Jimmy's girlfriend Mary Ann. She's the bait they're using to lure you onto their turf. You're going to get her back... and take care of the Black Warriors' gang once and for all!

It's going to take every fighting skill you have. And if you make it to the headquarters of the Black Warriors, you'll face the greatest surprise of all, the leader of the gang!

This is a very accurate conversion suffering from being a bit too easy for a game with only a few levels and similar gameplay.

The platform brawler that started it all, this legendary series focuses on the lives of the Lee twins - two skilled street fighters who use their martial arts talent to further the cause of justice.

A well-known series that was good in its day, but for some reason just couldn't find a way to adapt well to new plots and formats. By the time that the final installment rolled around, it bore little resemblance to its intense and at times daring ancestors.

In Double Dragon the Lee twins' favorite girl is kidnapped by a street gang - this was the first brawler with this premise, and it spawned oh-too-many imitators - Art of Fighting, Final Fury, and Streets of Rage?
