"Donkey Kong 3" is an arcade game. You are positioned under a huge monkey, on a platform consisting of several smaller platforms. You can jump to upper platforms when the distance between them and the one you are standing on is small enough. Your goal is to repeatedly shoot at the monkey and force him to go higher and higher on the ropes he is hanging on, eventually letting him no place to go any more. When you reach this stage, you have won the level. The monkey is protected by many flies and worms who try to disturb you, and sometimes uses heavy attacks himself. A contact to those creatures leads to immediate death. They use various types of attack, but you can also upgrade your weapon during a level.

The third and final arcade outing for Donkey Kong sees the giant ape once again cast as the enemy. Unlike the first two Kong games, the legendary character Mario doesn't feature, with the player taking on the role of 'Stanley', a gardener who is armed with bug spray with which he must destroy the swarms of insects that attack Stanley and try to steal his plants.

Each level has five plants that must be protected. Stanley must also spray Kong to force the ape to the top of the screen and complete the level.

Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong are off to find the missing Donkey and Diddy, who disappeared while celebrating their victory over King K. Rool. Donkey Kong Country 3 plays very much like the first two games in the series, but there are some new features, namely the Brothers Bear. There are 13 of these helpful bears throughout the game, including Blunder, who gives out secrets; Barter, who swaps items; Barnacle, who runs the gift shop; and Benny and Bjorn, twins who run the ski lifts on the mountains. Also new to this series are Banana Birds, which help you save your progress.

As you progress through this game's many exotic tropical worlds, you (or you and a friend alternating) will control both Dixie and Kiddy Kong. Dixie's primary strengths involve her pony tail, which enables her to form a Helicopter Spin, which can be used to whip enemies or make incredibly long leaps. Kiddy's main asset is his strength: he can reveal hidden areas by breaking down doors and smashing the ground. Also, he can skim across water and power roll into bad guys. Both characters can swim, run, jump, swing, throw barrels, climb, and ride vehicles, such as Funky's hovercraft, which can be used to explore further sections of the map.

To enable you to reach places high places, you can throw Dixie when controlling Kiddy. When you are Dixie, you can throw Kiddy and steer him to drop down fragile holes.

Throughout this epic game, you'll find animal friends that you can ride, such as Enguarde the Swordfish, Squawks the Parrot, and Squitter the Spider. Enemies you must defeat include: the springy tailed Re-Koil; Nibbla, the hungry fish; Buzz the bee; Sneek, the sneaky rat; the coin-protecting alligator named Koin; Bristels, the rolling hedgehog; and Swoopy, the sharp-beaked bird.

In Donkey Kong Country 3, as in the first two games in the series, barrels play a significant role in the action. Star Barrels act as save points, TNT Barrels explode when thrown, Bonus Barrels let you play bonus round games, and Invincibility Barrels let you gain temporary invincibility. You'll find many other kinds of barrels as you go. Treasures and items are important as well. Bananas sometimes point the way, balloons and KONG Letters give you extra lives, and coins give you bonus points, let you play Swanky's games, and help you pay for items.

Mario has kidnapped Junior's Papa!

Donkey Kong Jr. was originally released in the arcades in 1982 as a sequel to Donkey Kong. In this game, Mario plays the antagonist, finally having captured Donkey Kong, and has put the ape in a locked cage. As Donkey Kong Jr., players will have to make their way through four different levels (Vines, Springboard, Chains and Mario's Hideout) in an attempt to find keys to free the little monkey's Father.

Along the way, Mario will send out Snapjaws, swooping purple birds, and electric sparks in an attempt to stop Junior. Junior can defend himself by dropping fruit found around the levels on the heads of his foes. The more foes a piece of fruit hits in a falling sequence, the higher bonus points can be scored.

Junior can also avoid enemies more easily by grabbing hold of two chains or vines at a time to climb away faster, or by jumping over his foes. However, any long fall or falling into the water on certain levels will mean the loss of a life for Junior.

In the final cut scene, Junior will free Donkey Kong and both will escape after giving Mario the boot. Once all four levels are cleared, the game levels will start over at a higher difficulty.

Like the original Donkey Kong, the earlier 1980's console versions do not have all of the levels and animations from the arcade.

Jumpman has taken Donkey Kong, and it's up to Donkey Kong Jr. to collect the key, swing past the obstacles and open the cage to save the day.

The second Donkey Kong game, which adds slightly improved graphical touches, and one of a very few titles to have Jumpan (later to become Mario) as the bad guy.

Something of a role reversal for this superb sequel to the seminal 1981 platform-based original, with Mario now cast as the villian (the only Mario game in which this occurred) and Donkey Kong the captured victim.

Donkey Kong's son, DK Junior, must rescue his captured father from Mario's clutches by climbing and jumping his way over vines, chains and platform before he can reach his father. Junior has to race against time while avoiding the horrible Snap jaws and birds released by Mario.

Like the original, Donkey Kong Junior features four different screens, but the first and second screens are repeated before the final two screens are reached.

Remember in Donkey Kong how Mario fought Papa Donkey Kong? Well, Mario won. Now he has Papa locked up like an animal in a cage. Only you, Donkey Kong Junior, can save Papa. You have to reach a special key to unlock the cage. But Mario has other userideas. As you nimbly climb trees and gracefully swing across vines towards your goal, Mario sends jaw-snapping creatures after you. You earn extra points by plucking fruit to bonk them. When you have won your first challenge, another scene appears with even greater obstacles. And the third level is the most difficult of all. You can do it! After all, you're a chimp off the old block!

An excellent vertically scrolling shoot'em up. The player assumes the role of a pilot who is sent by their squadron to fight their former allies until one side destroys the other, all of which is a part of a mission to strengthen the military power that controls each side. The player flies their selected fighter over 5 areas of various terrain, encountering a number of land, sea and air enemies. The player's ship has two modes of fire : by tapping the fire button, shots are fired; holding it down produces a concentrated vertical beam, but also reduces the ship's speed.

The player can choose one of 3 aircraft at the start of the game, or upon continuing :
Type A : A red (or yellow/orange, for player two) fighter, which fires a narrow stream of shots
Type B : A green (or purple, for player two) helicopter, which fires its main guns forward, but has side guns that rotate in the direction of movement
Type C : A blue (or black, for player two) fighter, which fires a wide, three-way spread of shots

An under-powered port of the PC classic, Doom for the Super NES suffers from choppy player movement, heavily pixelated graphics, grainy visuals and slow gameplay. Less egregious, but still annoying, the floor and ceiling textures are totally absent, and many of the wall textures and sound effects are missing. From a practical standpoint, the worst thing about the game is its confounding lack of battery back-up and/or password capabilities. One welcome aspect of this version is that it lets players restart the current level at any time. Other positives include music that is faithful to the original, and smooth strafing controls (thanks to the SNES controller's nifty L and R "shoulder" buttons). Super NES owners, unforunately thy Doom has come.
