The game begins as a fire breaks out in April O'Neil's apartment. Just as it seems she will be saved, Shredder himself kidnaps her. The first half of the game is chasing after Shredder and rescuing April. Then the Turtles' master Splinter is kidnapped. After rescuing him, the Turtles have had enough and they raid the Technodrome to have a final showdown with the Shredder.

The game is noted for being one of the defining entries in the beat 'em up genre along with Final Fight.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III is an Action game, developed and published by Konami, which was released in Japan in 1993.

This was the last side-scrolling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for NES. It followed the highly acclaimed Turtles II over a year later and, unlike its predecessor, doesn't have an Arcade counterpart.

The third game in the series is basically the same as the second. The story and the stages are different, of course, but it doesn't really matter. Choose your favourite turtle and kill as many Foot Clan soldiers as you can, fight the bosses and reach Shredder in a Double Dragon-styled game.

The graphics and gameplay were improved. And, if the choice of the turtle depended only on personal taste in the second game (as they were all the same, in different colors), in this third episode they gained individual special moves.

Continuing the popular NES series, the Ninja Turtles get the 16-bit treatment with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. We find our favorite pizza-eating superheroes hanging around their sewer apartment, watching a little television. Friend and ace reporter April O'Neil is doing a live remote from the Statue of Liberty. Suddenly, a giant flying android comes screaming out of the sky and whisks April and Lady Liberty away. A collective cry of "Dude!" emits from the sewer and Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello and Raphael spring into action; they know Shredder and Krang are behind this nefarious plot.

The "Heroes in a Half Shell" begin their rescue mission in the streets of New York and, with your help, make their way to the Technodrome, which is Shredder's fortress. Using a Matrix Translocation Beam, Shredder then banishes the boys into a timewarp. The Turtles find themselves on a whirlwind trip through time (from 2,500,000 BC to A.D. 2100) while battling Foot Soldiers, Stone Warrior, Roadkill Rodney, Mechaturtle, Slash, Leatherhead, Bebop, Rock Steady and any number of other Shred-heads and Krang hangers on.

You can control any one of the four Ninja Turtle characters, each of whom are rated according to the following abilities: normal attack, rush attack, special technique, defense and speed. Each character comes equipped with a weapon (such as Michaelangelo's nunchakus) and a special move (such as Donatello's High Flying Kick in the Teeth). Regardless of which Turtle you choose, you have many ninja attack moves at your disposal, such as the Catapult, the Whipit, the Bulldozer, the Big Hurl and the Cannon Ball. A friend can join in and team with you side-by-side against the enemy forces.

In addition to hacking, slashing, hitting and kicking your way through the game, a couple of the 10 levels of play require you to ride vehicles, such as sewer surfboards and Neon Nightriders. The end of the game, which is called The Final Shell-Shock, is a present day (1992) battle against the Turtle's archenemy, none other than the mighty Shredder.

If time travel is not your thing, you can challenge an opponent to a little Versus fighting action Ninja Turtle style. A Time Trial mode is also available. Here you must fight the clock as well as the Foot Clan in three courses, each with up to five rounds. Cowabunga, dude!

TMNT: Tournament Fighters is a fighting game set in the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Each of the turtles, as well as five other characters, take part in this tournament to see who is really the true champion. With a Street Fighter II-like fighting engine, the game has several different modes such as 1 on 1, tournament, and practice.

The game features the original 4 turtles from the previous games in the series, as well as other fighters.

The game is very much in the tradition of the Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter series, pitting you against opponents one at a time. Some fighters (besides the turtles) will be familiar, such as the Rat King, or even Shredder (now called "Cyber-Shredder" here).

Though even people familiar with the turtles will see differences in them. They can now, for example, do moves involving projectiles, such as "fireballs".

The sequel to 1989's hugely successful original, 'Turtles in Time' once more sees the four heroes taking on Shredder and his army. Game-play remains similar to the original game, but the experience is enhanced further with the obligatory improved graphics and sound effects. 'Turtles in Time' also features a larger variety of levels, as now the battle between good and evil rages across time as the Turtles travel to prehistoric, pirate and Wild West times in their pursuit of the elusive Splinter.

Yet again, Konami's mastery of the genre was in evidence as the manic energy and humor of the cartoon and comic-book series upon which the game is based was captured perfectly.
