Why did the frog cross the road? In Frogger, a remake of the classic Arcade game for the Super NES, the answer is simple: to try and cross a river that's on the other side!

Your job in Frogger is to guide five frogs across a busy five-lane highway and a rapidly moving river. You begin at the bottom of the screen and can move your frog in four directions: up, down, right and left. As you hop across the highway, you must dodge buses, cars and trucks that move at various speeds. After crossing the street, you will land on the riverbank.

The river you must hop across has three lanes of floating logs and two lanes of swimming turtles. While you hop on the logs and turtles, you must avoid the snapping jaws of alligators, venomous snakes and other dangerous creatures. Be especially careful while you are on the turtles because some of them are prone to sinking in the water. You can score bonus points by eating flies and hopping on log frogs.

Once you reach the uppermost lane of the river, you should hop into one of the open bays at the top of the screen. If you manage to put a frog in each of the five bays, you'll progress to the next screen.

This version of Frogger is true to the original in concept and gameplay, but adds enhanced graphics and level progression to the formula.

Your task in this arcade conversion is to guide a frog across a treacherous road and river, and to safety at the top of the screen. Both these sections are fraught with a variety of hazards, each of which will kill the frog and cost you a life if contact is made.

The road is full of cars and trucks, at variable speeds. The river water itself is fatal, as are the snakes which hover within on later levels. Frogger must use the arrangement of logs, turtles (which are only there for a short time) and alligators (but stay away from their faces), and then jump into one of the open home-cells, userideally one containing a fly for extra points. Once all holes have been filled, you move onto the next, harder level.

Frogger is a 1- or 2-player game in which players move their frog from the bottom to the top of the screen. This is achieved by overcoming a number of hazards without getting run over or drowned.

The first half of the screen is a bi-directional flow of traffic including busses, cars and racecars. Players must avoid these vehicles. Frogs can move safely with the flow of traffic to make their way to the second half of the screen, which consists of a river with fast moving logs and sinkable turtles. Frogs must hop on the backs of the logs and the turtles to get to the home base at the top of the screen. At random times throughout the game play, a lady frog will appear on a log. Bonus points are scored if the frog successfully hops on the back of the lady frog and escorts her safely home. A fly will also appear randomly in a home base. Bonus points can be scored if the frog hops in the home base when the fly is present. Sinking turtles also swiftly move across the river with the logs. If a frog is unsuccessful in hopping on a turtle's back, the frog will sink and drown. Crocodiles, snakes, and otters also roam the moving river waiting to eat frogs on their way up to the home base. Players can hop on their back (except the snake, whose touch is deadly), but they must avoid their open mouths. The frog must be lined up perfectly to enter one of the 5 home bases. Players must maneuver the frogs to their home base within the allotted time (60 beats on the timer).

The frog can move vertically or horizontally by maneuvering the joystick. Players must maneuver the frog swiftly and precisely without getting run over, drowned, or eaten by the creatures that roam the flowing river. Avoiding traffic, deadly snakes, otters, crocodiles, and the treacherous diving turtles make game action stimulating in Frogger.

In Frogger, you must get across the river by hopping on alligators, turtles, and floating logs, timing your jumps so you don't land in the water or in something's mouth. Sometimes a lady frog will appear on a log. If you hop on her, you will receive extra points.

Frogger 2 continues the adventurous hopping of Konami's amphibious hero. Though the game is still played from an overhead perspective as players carefully nudge the little frog across hazardous areas, there are many new features to this sequel. Frogger must now slide across frozen ice patches, avoid rolling boulders, and even hop on flying birds. At the end of each world lies a gem-filled treasure room that holds a baby frog trapped within its mysterious layout. To rescue the frog, players must collect all gems while remaining on a narrow path.

In Frogger II, you need to guide your frog to safety in three different locations. Starting out underwater, reach the top of the pond while avoiding dangerous alligators and fish (you can ride a turtle for safety!). Once on top of the pond, hop across logs, birds, and even a whale to the life preserver trailing behind a tugboat. In the third location you have to hop across a flock of birds to reach a cloud at the top of the screen. Each frog has a time limit to safely reach one of the homes on each of the three screens. You move on to the next level when a frog has safely reached each of the homes on all screens.
