A direct sequel to 1988's "Shinobi", Shadow Dancer stars a young Ninja who, together with his faithful canine companion, must battle against a terrorist group. The terrorist group have planted a number of time bombs throughout the metropolis. The Ninja and his dog must set out to gather up all the explosives placed by the evil gang and to annihilate the criminal mastermind behind the Asian Dawn.

Game-play is very similar to that of the original Shinobi, and features the jumping and projectile weapon-based game-play of its illustrious older brother. However, a new and crucial attacking move has since been added to the Ninja's arsenal. Pulling DOWN on the joystick and pressing the ATTACK button sends the hero's dog to attack the nearest enemy. This will stop the enemy from attacking the player as he wrestles with the dog. The enemy must be killed quickly, however, or the dog itself will be killed. If the dog is attacked, he will turn into a small puppy, and once the player has killed a set number of enemies, the puppy will grow to be a full-sized dog who can once again be used to attack enemies.

Plot:
Rumors of terror and destruction have made their way to Ninja Valley. The Master of the Oboro school of shinobi sends his best students to investigate the horrible tales coming from the suburban areas. They return with news of a powerful dark force that has established a base within Neo City.
The Master knows that only a warrior trained in the arts of ninjutsu can stand against this menace. One by one his greatest pupils enter Neo City to locate and destroy the source of the evil. Ninja Valley has lost contact with each of them. All are believed to be captured.
It is now up to Joe Musashi, the Red Shinobi, to carry through this dire mission. As the oldest and strongest of his ninja disciples, Musashi must use his special skills in the art of ninjutsu to free his fellow shinobi. With their combined strength, they can destroy the City of Fear.

Gameplay:
The game mechanics of The G.G. Shinobi is similar to that seen in The Revenge of Shinobi. Movement is limited to walking, attacking and jumping. To compensate the restriction of action however, The G.G. Shinobi offers a unique mechanic to add variety.
The objective of the game is to free four ninjas held captive by the evil crime organization: pink ninja, blue ninja, green ninja and yellow ninja. When a stage is completed, the freed ninja joins the player's party and can be switched to during play. Each ninja comes equipped with a unique weapon, ninjitsu and skill.

You control a ninja, Shinobi, who must battle his way through each level in search of hostages which must be rescued. You have shurikens, kicks and punches to defend yourself with. As well as the powerful ninja magic which can clear the screen of enemies in one go.

Each level is broken down into smaller scenes and hostages are guarded by big blokes who throw swords. Watch out for gun-toting enemy henchmen and ninjas.

Reaching the end of each level will find you battling it out with a boss. These range from 8ft giants to helicopter gunships.

Sega's Shinobi is probably the most popular ninja game even created. The original arcade game came out in 1987 and this PC Engine version followed two years later. A syndicate of evil ninjas has kidnapped the children of the Iga clan. Without hesitation, a martial art expert named Joe Musashi decides to fight on their ground and rescue the kids from the hands of those who enslaved them. Our hero ninja primary weapons are shurikens and things get quickly tricky. Most of the enemies are actually better than the usual mindless baddies of the time. Some of them hide behind shields or crates and teach the player to use strategy rather than mash attack. Also, our hero, despite his powerful skills, will die in one hit. This certainly forces the player to learn enemies attack patterns and weaknesses. Finally, our Ninja can also use magic powers in the form of twisters of energy. They can only be triggered once in every stage but will inflict significant damage to his enemies. This conversion sadly misses all the bonus stages and the second level from the original arcade game.

A scrolling platform beat-em-up in which the player takes on the role of Joe Musashi, a Shinobi Ninja, who must fight his way through 5 tough missions - each made up of between 3 to 5 stages - in his quest to rescue the kidnapped Ninja children of the Iga clan; now hostages of an evil Ninja syndicate called "Zeed". To complete a mission, the player must rescue all of the kidnapped children on each level, with the number of hostages remaining displayed on a meter in the bottom left corner of the screen.

The Shinobi Ninja begins each level armed with either 'shuriken' throwing stars or a gun for long-range attacks; and a Samurai sword for close-range combat. In addition, the Ninja also has one 'Magic Attack' per level; a smart bomb which kills or damages all on-screen enemies. A points bonus is awarded whenever a level is completed without the Magic Attack being used. An end-of-level guardian awaits the player at the end of each mission, and each takes several hits before it is killed. Once a boss is defeated, the player is taken to a bonus stage in which a large number of Ninjas will try to 'jump' from the back of the screen to the front to attack the player. A bonus life is awarded if the player manages to kill all of the Ninjas without being attacked.

Shinobi was a huge success for Sega, and deservedly so. Its perfectly realized blend of platform and fighting action and is as fine an exponent of the 'easy to get into, difficult to master' gameplay ethic as video games have seen.

One of a popular series of arcade games involving a Japanese warrior and his faithful hound ported to the Genesis in order to boost the platform's slow sales. Impressive in their day, with neat 2D sidescrolling graphics. Animation is rather limited, but it's the wild gameplay that everybody reuser. The series gets better as it goes, but they're no match for the arcade originals.

Shinobi 3 - Return of the Master is fast-paced, challenging, and very playable.

In the previous game, you defeated an evil army of villains, known simply as "Zeed", but some of them escaped.

Time has passed and it is the year 2XXX where atomic power plants in countries around the world are attacked, and plutonium, which was the equivalent of 100,000 megatons of explosive power, was stolen from these plants. The words "Cyber Zeed" was always written at the scene of the crime. Later, the world realized what Cyber Zeed had planned to do: use their nuclear capabilities to terrorize the world. Every nation sent their best forces to stop this threat, but all of them failed.

Joe Musashi came forward to this great evil, and he is required to fight those who rose from the ashes and put an end to this threat.

The Shinobi series never seems to stop and although different, this contains similar elements seen in the others. The gameplay lacks content and it's fairly easy.
