Here is the HuCard conversion of the classic vertical shooter Raiden by Seibu Kaihatsu and converted for the PC Engine system by Hudson Soft. Your ship starts with a simple vulcan gun which can be massively upgraded during the game and streams of bullets will rapidly cover the screen. However, other kind of weapons is also available : the laser (Blue capsule). A secondary weapon can be collected, like homing or straight going missiles. One of the originality of the game was the special super bombs covering a fair amount of the screen and cleaning everything on its path. This version has obvious differences, due to technical limitations, compared to the arcade original : no two simultaneous players play and graphics are not as clear and colorful.

Gameplay:
The player pilots the "Raiden Supersonic Attack Fighter" through waves of enemies, and several levels. There are three types of weapons, and the player can collect several powerups for them to make them stronger. There are bombs and missile powerups as well as collectable medals which add to the score.

Story:

Decent weapons systems and power-ups. It kinda reminds me of Darwin 4081 in a strange sort of way, but is far superior in almost every respect. Will keep all of those glassy-eyed shooter fans happy for a while.
