The Billiard Congress of America presents Championship Pool for your Nintendo Entertainment System. This billiards simulation features four play modes and dozens of variations on the classic game of balls and sticks.
In the Tournament Mode, you take on 31 other pool sharks in a regional single elimination tournament. If you win the tournament, you advance to the national finals featuring the four regional winners. In Tournament Mode, you can play Eight Ball or Nine Ball.
In Challenge Mode, you must play selected games without missing a shot. The game options in this mode include 14-1 Challenge, Eight Ball, Nine Ball, Three Ball, Speed Pool, and Equal Offense.
In the Party Mode, two to eight players take turns sinking balls in every form of billiards imaginable.
Finally, in Freestyle Mode, anything goes. Sink the balls any way you can. Your job is to knock all 15 balls off the table without regard for rules.
To play, gamers get a targeted shot system complete with previews of shots. The B button allows players to adjust shot speed. Clicking the A button once shows a shot preview. Clicking the A button twice launches the ball. Start pauses the game and brings up a menu.

You can shoot some stick in four different modes: Tournament, Party, Freestyle, and Challenge. Tournament pits you against the best players the computer can offer. If you keep missing shots, you can use the Challenge mode to get in some practice. The Freestyle mode lets you create your own games, and if you have a lot of friends the Party mode will let up to eight people play using the same Game Boy. Every kind of billiards game is available including 3-Ball, 9-Ball, 8-Ball, 10-Ball, 14-1 Continuous, Rotation, 15-Ball, Straight Pool, Equal Offense, and Speed Pool.

This is one of the better NES pool games out there. It has many options, many pool games like 14.1 Continuous, Rotation, Three Ball, Speed Pool, etc. And of course there's the 9-ball and 8-ball games. The view is bird's eye (a la Side Pocket) but it doesn't look to be proportioned too well, the table looks gigantic in comparison to the balls. There's two zooms though, but they don't make much of a difference. The aiming system is the best of any pool game I've seen. It's easy, yes, and you'll make more shots here than on any other pool game. It works like this, when you press A, a little phantom ball shoots out of the cue ball, and when it hits a ball (such as the one ball) it'll carom off and show you where that ball will go to a certain extent. Some people may not like this method of shooting, but I do, and it adds some precision to the game. It's an innovative system, and they improved upon it in the Genesis version, but it's still good on the NES.
There's many different play modes, such as Tournament, Party, and Challenge. There's also Freestyle where you can set up racks and trick shots and such and test yourself. There's plenty to do, and you won't get bored with it. The Tournament mode can provide a nice challenge, and the challenge mode can let you put your high scores against your friends, and see who's the next Minnesota Fats or Willie Mosconi.

here's a straight game of 8-ball to play against your friends - no trick stuff, with an angled view of the table and rock 'n' roll riffs dancing on your eardrums. All the thrill of one of the world's most popular games is yours whenever you want it, and you'll never even have to wait for a table!

Celebrity endorsed billiards sim featuring the legendary pool player, who is probably best known for his appearance in The Hustler as the champion pool player that Paul Newman's character is determined to defeat.
A top-down arcade-style pool sim endorsed by one of the sport's greatest legends. Not bad, although the story mode is downright laughable. Still, I'll take Side Pocket any day of the week.

The unusual single player mode, called "pocket", requires that the player clear all the balls off the table in a limited number of shots, as well as achieve a predetermined score. The player earns points by sinking balls, sinking balls on consecutive shots, and sinking balls in numerical order. On occasion, a pocket will light up, and if the player sinks a ball into that pocket on that shot, a bonus will be earned in the form of points or extra shots.
