A Super Mario Bros.-inspired platformer (complete with two-player alternating mode), Congo's Caper is set in a large prehistoric world of dinosaurs and cavemen. Wielding a wooden club, Congo can bat the enemies out of his way as he runs, jumps, swims, flies and dives his way through 35 smooth scrolling, nicely animated levels. Using the club gets a little old, but other abilities, such as swinging on vines and rolling down hills to knock out enemies, add variety. At times, players can even ride a pteranodon to a bonus stage. Cute, colorful, uncluttered graphics, brightly happy music and sound effects, and easy-to-use controls make this a good title for younger gamers.

For this sequel to the sideways scrolling 1991 beat-em-up, "Caveman Ninja", Data East chose to eschew the former's gameplay and create a single-screen platformer with gameplay hugely similar to Toaplan's "Snow Bros.", released in 1990.

Back in the distant past (way back-line when "rock and roll" was just rock and fast food was dinner you couldn't catch), lived two cave dudes named Joe and Mac. Whether it was dinosaur demolition or pterodactyl hang-glidin', life for the boys was pretty cool. Cool, that is, until a bogus bunch of neanderthal nerds crashed their village and scared off all the cave-babes. Now the cave-babes are out there- SOMEWHERE, lost and reeeeally lonely... so what are you waitin' for? It's up to Joe and Mac to get 'em back.

In Super Nintendo's Joe and Mac you grab a club and start clubbin' your way through 12 levels of action filled with cavemen, pterodactyls, dinosaurs, and general pre-historic trouble. Super two-player mode lets Joe and Mac bash each other as they bash the badguys. Regular two-player mode lets you work together, and and one-player mode sends out Joe by himself to rescue the girls.
