Gargoyle's Quest: Ghosts 'n Goblins, is a platform/side scrolling adventure game with mild role-playing video game elements from Capcom. It was released on May 2, 1990 in Japan and then in the United States and Canada in July. The main character Red Arremer (Firebrand in the US) made his debut in the video game series Ghosts 'n Goblins. Gargoyle's Quest was followed by two sequels, a NES game Gargoyle's Quest II in 1992 and Demon's Crest for the SNES in 1994.
The game consists of two types of areas: an overhead view where Firebrand traverses the Ghoul Realm, either on the world map or in towns, and individual, side-scrolling, battle levels which feature a boss at the end. In between actual levels, as Firebrand traverses the overhead map of the Ghoul Realm, he is susceptible to random encounters like a typical console RPG. He must defeat the enemies in order to return to the overhead-view map. There are also ghouls that can be encountered that spark a small battle level which the player must defeat in order to get past them.
Firebrand can walk, jump (varying heights depending on items obtained), cling to walls, fly (a hovering ability actually) for a period of time determined by the items the player has obtained, and fire projectiles (the only method of offense in the game). The player starts with one type of projectile: it does not travel very far, and has limited power. Eventually, the player will gain new projectiles, discussed below. Firebrand has a small number of hit points, starting at two and increasing throughout the game based on items or blessings obtained; various enemies and objects drain different amounts of hit points.
As the user progresses, various items are gained which have differing effects. Some items are passive; they increase Firebrand's abilities outright. For example, the Fingernail of the Spectre increases his jumping ability for the remainder of the game, and there are several items that increase the length of time which Firebrand can fly, the final of which allows for him to fly infinitely. There are also items which can be used as needed, such as items to restore health. Additionally, several types of projectiles are obtained throughout the game. All can be offensive tools to defeat enemies, but each has different traits or specialized uses. The Blockbuster, for example, which is the first projectile obtained after the Firebrand's starting projectile, is twice as powerful, travels further, and can break special blocks the player may need to pass. Another projectile temporarily creates objects which Firebrand can jump from to reach necessary locations. This block-breaking power and other useful abilities leaves a use for such projectiles throughout the game, even when more powerful projectiles are obtained. Projectiles can be selected one-at-a-time from the select menu, as can items such as healing vials.

Ghosts 'n Goblins is a classic sideways scrolling action platformer (!) where you're playing a heroic knight out to destroy the evil creatures of the land. Amongst them are the various undead (ghosts, zombies), bats, goblins and so forth. As in most games in this genre, you can pick up several kinds of addons on your way, greatly improving your chance of survival. A fun game, and a great conversion of the original Capcom arcade.

The player takes on the role of Sir Arthur the knight, who sees his sweetheart, Princess Guinevere, kidnapped by the Goblin King. Arthur must run and jump through six horizontal and eight-way scrolling levels in his bid to rescue the kidnapped princess. Arthur is initially armed with throwable lances, but a variety of other throwing weapons, such as axes, flaming torches, swords etc. are dropped by defeated enemies and can be picked up and used to fend off the zombies, bats, demons and other assorted satanic minions that Sir Arthur has to face. Each of the six end-of-level gates is guarded by one of Satan's generals; huge, end-of-level guardians who must be defeated before the player can finally reach the Goblin King and rescue the princess.

3 years ago the brave knight, Arthur, saved the beloved Princess PrinPrin from the Dark Prince, Lucifer, and had driven his evil forces back into the Underworld.
But now, something sinister is stirring...monsters had begun attacking the kingdom again, and this time Princess PrinPrin has been kidnapped for a dark ritual to raise a greater evil than Lucifer!
Now, Arthur must go forth to save his beloved Princess and destroy the root of all evil! And it won't matter whether he fights in his shining armor or in his underwear alone...the bravest Knight in the land isn't going to be stopped by some monsters!
A medieval romp through the undergrowth and onto gigantic guardians. May not have all the special FX, but plays very well.

O brave knight, save us from the Demon Lord and his minions! He has seized your love, the Princess, and carried her away to his dark delvings. Can you fight your way through the many enemies and obstacles in you path to save her - and her kingdom? Ported from the megahit arcade original.
Colorful graphics and awesome gameplay. Two gripes, though. First, once you jump, you're committed to a landing spot even if an enemy pops up there. Second, after clearing the first six stages, you have to go back and play through them a second time. Still, it's worthy of mention in the same breath as Sonic.

Three years have passed since the events of "Ghosts'n Goblins" and Arthur the knight once again finds himself battling against the hideous creatures of Demon World. The demons have now seized the kingdom and Arthur returns home to witness the castle's lone survivor, his beloved Gunievere, murdered by the king of the demons, Lucifer. Arthur once again embarks on a one-man quest to destroy the demonic invaders and save Gunievere's mortal soul.
Game-play is of a very similar vein to that of "Ghosts'n Goblins" - the classic run, jump and shoot action remains intact. Ghouls'n Ghosts is, however, even more difficult than its already demanding predecessor. Arthur now has access to several new power-ups to aid him on his daunting quest, such as 'Golden Armour' which gives Arthur greater protection from the demons. Additionally, unlike "Ghosts'n Goblins", Arthur can now fire his weapons upwards instead of just left or right and, while jumping, can fire beneath him as well.
The graphics in Ghouls'n Ghosts are predictably far superior to those of its 1985 prequel, with highly imaginative level design and superbly-drawn, smoothly animated enemies all adding to the game's superb Gothic feel.

In Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, you take on the role of Arthur, the boldest knight in the land. You must rescue Princess Guinevere, who has been captured by the evil emperor Sardius and spirited away to the slimy crypts of the Phantom Zone. As you journey through the eight quests in this game, you'll be haunted and challenged by any number of undead creatures, such as zombies, skeletons, vampires and man-eating plants. It seems the Ghoul Realm has revived and the entire kingdom has been shrouded under an eerie spell.
You begin the adventure wielding a deadly lance and decked out in an ordinary suit of armor. As you run, jump, battle and climb your way through the game, you will find in your pathway daggers, crossbows, scythes, torches, axes and tri-blades. When you gain a new weapon, you will forfeit your old one. Special weapons of enchantment, such as magic versions of the standard weapons, will appear only when you are wearing the bronze or golden armor, both of which can be found at various points in the game. The golden armor will also let you perform seven different magic spells that can do such things as expose hidden treasure, summon a fire dragon and disintegrate all onscreen enemies.
As you would expect, the setting for this game is combination of fantasy and horror. Among other terror-filled levels, you'll travel through a haunted graveyard, scale the icy walls of a palace, brave a fierce blizzard, traverse a fearsome forest and journey through a rotting sea. At the end of each quest, you must destroy a boss character called a Foul Guardian. A plethora of obstacles, creatures and treasures lie between you and the Throne Room, a place where only the power of Guinevere's enchanted bracelet can destroy Sardius.
