There's this really fun flash game, I forget the name. What you do is,
you use grenades to launch the Warthog Jeep from the Halo series
and try to kill as many aliens as you can. It's really fun.

Today is a great day among gamers.

@Game Mods: Leave the game's description up to Count. Not for nothing, but I'd prefer e-rumors and nonsensical garbage like "worst game ever" stay out of the description.

Kong, I'm sorry if this has been mentioned before, but is there any way you could add Devil's Crush for TurboGrafx-16? Not sure if it is farmable, but high scores would be a +. >:D

Kong

@Belmontzar.
I should be me organized about updates and letting people know when there are updates. Maybe one day.

I usually post in this thread when I add a requested game. I have not added any requested games in about a month and it will probably be a few more months before I do again.

On the game menu you can sort by "added" and "descending" and see the newest games.

I put big updates such as adding large chunks of games on the home page.

@kevin
There will not be any more TG-16 Java games. There will eventually be many more in ArcadeOX.

About newsletters and updates... Do you think twitter would be a good way to do this? Or is an emailed newsletter better? They would probably never say anything long and complex. Just short snips like "Atari added today", "New contest this week" etc.

I have some downtime today. I might try to work on some of the games in the first post of this thread.

I think that the e-mailed newsletter would get put by more people as a spam and overlook it then anything.

Twitter I have never gone on but I have been told that it is a good way to get stuff out there and it lets people that want to follow it do so. I would give that a shot first.

If you are familiar with other Shining Force games (especially the Game Gear ones) then you will be able to figure out the controls and play. You will just miss all of the story.

No, I tried for about two months to first alter the headers and then to change the mapper to no avail.

This was due because the emulator Kong uses with ArcadeOX supports the mapper that those three games use.

CD games aren't really available now.

That being said, the 5200 and 32X are possibilities.

After the current goal for arcade scoring and submission fixes have been met there will be a new poll asking what everyone wants next.

No CD is bad, but when the poll comes up, I'll be aiming for Jaguar! It has one of the best Wolfenstein ports and a good Doom port! Not to mention Rayman.

Technically possible though not as easy as some other systems such as Atari. It is not retro yet IMO. It went out of production in 2002 so I wouldn't add it until 2012.

Atari Jaguar and Sega CD wont be added. Atari 5200 and Sega 32X will.

Technically, Jaguar is retro. It is on the same level as 32X, so it is possible.

No. What I meant is is that the 32X and Non-CD Jaguar are on the same level of technology, and I already know CD is nearly impossible. So, maybe 5200? ;D Also, why no Donkey Kong 94?

Aww I seriously can't wait that long. And anyway, why not add any coin-op game you can?Accroding to my ROM sources and the list of games that I have seen compatible with MAME, almost any arcade game works on there that someone would want (within reason).
Coin-Op aside, I think the fact that Kong is going to use arcadeOX to emulate operating systems such as Apple II is cool but.. It just seems now that this site has so many games your just adding random systems.Like, I can just imagine emulating windows 98 in a few years. That would be so cool (although microsoft would kick yo' ass).

P.s. I just made you read this boring stuff because I was bored.Hope you liked it :p

Oh yeah and you ever thought about adding windows98?That would be like the first emulated system to actually nostalgicly affect me (other than snes, but that was only slightly).

I think a lot of the reason things like Apple II, Amiga, C64, etc. will hopefully be added is they are really Retro and they actually had a lot of games that were cool and never came out for anything else.

I have nothing against Windows 98, but it is barely retro in terms of number of years (it may not even be, as I don't think it has been out of production for 10 years). There were some good games for it, though.

Just because MAME supports it doesn't mean you can play it online. In fact, just because MAME says it can support it doesn't mean you can play it in MAME.

MAME supports just over 8,000 games. about half of them are duplicates meaning there is about 4,000 unique games. Just over 1,000 of those 4,000 do not work. About 50 of them are not even games. So MAME plays a little less than 3,000 games.

We use a customized version of MAME that supports 2,669 games - no duplicates or broken games or non-games. So about 350 less than the official MAME. About 200 of those 350 are CHD (Compressed Hunks of Data - Hard Drive or CD) games which are larger than CDs which would take forever to load and we couldn't afford the bandwidth or disk space.

We have put just 1,953 of the 2,669 possible Coin-Op games online. Of those 1,953 we have removed 2 because of errors. Sonic and Altered Beast.

That means only 716 more Coin-Op games could be added. But all of those are over 10MB each which is really pushing online capabilities. 527 of them are over 20MB which is not going to happen. So that leaves about 189 games that are almost too big (10-20MB) but might be added next year.

Those 189 games that could be added next year are listed below. No other Coin-Op games will be added. So requests will be ignored. These are sorted by size. The top of the list is 10MB - about the size of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/4814/). The bottom of the list is 20MB about double the size of SFII. The load times of the games at the bottom might be too long to add.

You had a good point there about MAME.But I still think retro computer operating systems are a waste of time. All the games on them are bad text based rpg's and 2 coloured platformers that only about 400 people even owned back in the day.
But that's just my opinion.

P.s. My windows vista never lets me play the games I used to play for Win98 properly, and if it ever does (only a few games) they work very badly with half the graphics not appearing.

I respect your opinion, but I think you must have never heard of the Amiga. Technologically, it smokes every system currently on R.U. (yes including the Genesis, SNES, and Turbo Grafx), and had hundreds and hundreds of awesome games which displayed 4,096 colors on screen at once (versus 64 colors for Genesis, 256 for SNES, and 482 for TG-16.) It was so visually impressive that it was the choice for special effects for many Hollywood productions. I'm not saying that graphics are the only factor (far from it), but there were still some impressive systems that were not just 2 color games. I don't even know if Amiga will end up being possible here, but not all old systems were inferior.

I don't dislike Windows 98 (I enjoyed many games for that OS), but you shouldn't assume that all systems that came out prior to you being into gaming sucked. There were many great ones. :)

Hey!Most of the consoles emulated on this site came out even before I was born and I still like them!I just really don't like old operating systems. But I searched Amiga in wikipedia, and I except that I am not even close to knowing all about retro games. But isn't it just strange how playstation had to come along to make nintendo stop being lazy and start being competitive (well in my eyes it was like that). But yeah, some of those games on Amiga look like what I thought was impossible at the time.
One last thing though, why didn't the Amiga line of operating systems expand peoperly?

Kugyince

Nintendo competed in (and won) a hardware war against Sega. I believe Sony's system actually had the opposite effect. Nintendo understood that competeing for technological superiority was a fool's game (which it is). They built themselves on first party software aimed at niche markets.

Just as the Wii doesn't compete with the 360/PS3, the N64 didn't attempt to compete with the PS1/SDC.

No worries. I understand that some of you young whipper-snappers don't necessarily know about every system that has ever existed. ;) I'm just saying that there were several older OS that had a lot to offer. Technologically, I think Amiga stood atop the heap, but the C-64, Apple II, and as much as I hate to say iteven the Tandy had good games as well.

Unfortunately, as popular as Amiga was (and still is with many people), Commodore (the company that produced the Amiga and C-64) made a few bad business decisions that made their company go bankrupt. I think that had this not happened, Commodore (and the Amiga in some form) would probably still be around today.

I was just kidding about the whole whippersnapper thing. I believe the term retro gamer doesn't have to apply to only the older crowd, but people who have an appreciation for a variety of types of games. Even, though I technically love the old systems, I still play my Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3. Well in the case of the PS3 I really only play Blu-Ray movies, but I do own one game that I haven't taken out of the shrinkwrap yet.

I think that the C-64 and some of the older systems that had perhaps bad graphics, still had some fun games that were not just text based.

I agree, but I wish it was easier to get to the younger crowd with games and sites liek this one. Sicne those gamers now grow up with fancy graphics and dont look twice at classical gaming.
they look at super mario and instead of thinking epicly awesome game thats a major pain in the ass but is a blast, but look at the graphics.. or see it as (lately) too hard.

Metal Slug 1-5
UN Squadron (Arcade)
Crusin World
Time Crisis
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Arcade)
Gradius III
Street Fighter Alpha
Killer Instinct (Arcade)
Virtua Fighter (Arcade)
Dragon's Lair (Arcade)

Is Mortal Kombat coin-op supported by MAME? I don't see it on the list, but I wanted to make sure as I see MK II, and there have been questions regarding the first one.

Kong

Hmmm... Mortal Kombat I should have been on the list with Mortal Kombat II. Since it is not that means my list was flawed. There would be at least one more game to add to it and if there is one there is probably more. I will have to double check when the time comes.

Regardless. Any other games that could be added would be very similar in age and size to the games on that list so it is still a good representation of what to expect.

After a quick look at the numbers I think there are around 200 more games that should have been on the list of games that will probably be added next year. Sorry I won't be giving the names of those games anytime soon as it would take a while to list them.

I will tell you some that will not be added.
Moonwalker
King of Fighters
Marvel Super Heroes
Teken
Metal Slug
And any game similar to them in age and technology are also out.

So many things wrong.
1. We are PG-13. Do not cuss.
2. You posted in the wrong section. This should be in the support area not the Game Request thread.
3. A more polite tone is customary when asking for free help.

You are trying to play an arcade game and it is not working? Which game? What does it do? Did you wait for it to finish loading? FF or IE? Vista or XP? Any other games work for you?

Has anyone ever asked about N64? Is this a possibility Kong? Technically possible though not as easy as some other systems such as Atari. It is not retro yet IMO. It went out of production in 2002 so I wouldn't add it until 2012.

1. will you put the N64 on RU in 2012
2. would the be a big selection of games like the other systems on RU
3. would there be long, painful loading time?
4. how is the N64 technically possible and Sega CD and Atari Jaguar isn't?

id rather just have more fan hacks and GBC.

P.s a tab for the fan hacks might be cool in the system select menu.
That way they dont clutter the real games.

Neo Geo games are not currently available on RU. I suspect (and hope) that they may be at some point in the future, but the general rule is a system must be out of production for 10 years before it can be added on RU.

Oh, what? You can't handle using a chainsaw on a cacodemon? It's easy! That, and Doom's fun because of the fact that it's the only FPS to get the enemy situations right- tens of hundreds of enemies in 1 room or arena. Well, Chainy, you won't be needing WD-40 tonight. :D That, and it'd be fun to play the whole game online here in zDoom. Even though I can never get past E1M5 due to my attention span.

Cool, wonder if any other computer games were homebrewed to other systems o.o

Edit:: my problem has always been lack of ammo, or not exploring fully and running into a room of strong monsters with just a pistol... Conduit had easy to find secret rooms, while quake and computer doom had simple infini ammo codes. Plus many of them are M rated so I dont play many thanks to my lil sis lol

the only other problem is that they, like fighting for me, feel the same over and over.. to be utterly honest the main reason I liked MVc2:new age was it had my characters from two games I play on saturn. (no donovan though)

But eh, the same is true for all genre of game, just depends what you like most.

Cool, wonder if any other computer games were homebrewed to other systemsNot many. It is very difficult to do so they are rare.

Adobe recently released a program that makes it much easier so I think you will see many more games like Doom for Flash next year. It also means emulators can now be made in Flash. Similar to our Java ones but in Flash. The quality/speed should be about the same. Just another play mode to choose from.

Nah, it was the N64 one. I thought both the first and second one were okay (the second more so) and I own both of them.

The only thing I really didn't enjoy was the whole 4-player split screen head-2-head mini game on Turok 2. That was boring. I guess I'm more of a fan of fighting giant monsters/dinosaurs than other people online or AI humans. That's why I think I might like Metroid Prime.

I can't wait for Monster Hunter 3 to come to the Wii. 4 player online co-op adventure vs. giant monsters seems like win/win to me.

Glad to hear you also liked the N64 one, that was awesome. I've yet to play another good shooter like that where you can actually hit body parts and they react realistically. Also the cerebral bore was cool as hell.

Well, I think I've done something never done before- make the world's first Doom 32X texture swap. I'll put up a link, but I have to censor a certain message I put in place of the PAL only message.

EDIT: Turns out it didn't need censoring.
http://www.box.net/shared/8814uxpa0z
Something that no one in the world has ever done. I managed to hack the files of Doom 32X and switch graphics. If anyone else has ever done this, put up a link. It'd be good to be proven wrong for once.

Also, when starting, use this GG code to access the unused Military Base level:
DAHA-AADY

Levels 23 and 24 work with it on, but levels 16-22 are blank. They're the proof of the plan to include the rest of episode 2 and episode 3 until memory constraints got in the way.

What computer games can be added thanks to the new Flash?
Open Source C/C++ games. You can search google for examples.

Adobe made an application that makes it possible to port C programing code to Flash. It is not easy or instant and requires tinkering and will not work with every game. But I predict that there will be several programmers racing to make a name for themselves this year by porting old games to Flash.

Colecovision is already on RU.

As to the others, I believe Intellivision is currently being discussed.

Neo may be added some time in the future, but I think it might be a few years down the line.

I like the idea of Lynx being added too, but I'm not sure what the possibility would be of that.

Arcade vs? im not sure exactly what that game series is.
Nintendo Vs. Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Vs._Series) was arcade versions of NES games. They sometimes had slightly better graphics and increased difficulty and usually had two screens, one for each player.

I never heard of this until now and I agree it looks awesome. I'd love to play it and I'm sure many other people would enjoy it too. The only issue I can see is the lack of an official translation. Wikipedia says a translation has been made but I don't know how available it is. I guess we just cross our fingers and wait.

Holy crap Kong that was unexpected. I see a lot of interesting ones on that list.

Bastard Dark God Of Destruction - I had to add that to favorites just for the name
River City Ransom 2 - !?
Live a Live
Treasure Hunter G - Tactical RPG made by Square? Word up.
Taloons Great Adventure Mystery Dungeon - I had to look it up to be sure but this is a spin off a Dragon Warrior 4. Very interesting, it doesn't use the same combat system from DW, you see the slimes and stuff on screen. Seems pretty cool.

Why is Actraiser original on the list? As far as I can tell it's the exact same game we already have. Retro Uprising - Arcade - Actraiser (http://retrouprising.com/game-menu/game/49/)

I didn't port that. JLF65 did - Wolf32X - now at alpha 4! - DCEmu Forums:: The Homebrew & Gaming Network ::
I imagine it was super hard. Probably several other games technically could be ported this way but I doubt it happens too many more times.

Porting these types of games to Flash is getting easier though so I would expect to see more games like the Flash version of Doom and Hex and Quake.

Chrono Trigger Music Library, besides listening to the music, what is there to do?No. Perhaps it should be deleted. I deleted a whole bunch of GB games like this once before.

I'd just like to point out that I'm responsible for providing these Japanese SNES roms with English Translations :)
