Yeah playing a game I honestly never thought I would want to play again. I've wanted to play it a lot though as of late. Last I played it was so long ago, I think I just hated the complexity of it.
That's just that too, I've already noticed... It's so much different, not in the terms of battle, but just the Junctioning, the Guardian Force's, drawing magic, etc. (guess that is aspects of battle)
Making this thread to document my play through, and get assistance, because I may need it with this game being far different than any other Final Fantasy Game I've played.
Enjoying the game immensely thus far though, I'm at the first mission with Zell and Seifer.
Hoping the fact that every enemy in the game remains the same level as you won't bother me. I can see it being good and bad.
I think it goes without saying, but NO SPOILERS! Thanks guys.
Edit: Wrote this quick, so yeah. Apologize for the short bursts of random sentences, and structure. Usually work a bit more at that, Don't have much time for this at the moment though, I just wanted to get the thread going.

Play it until you get up to playing the card game. I highly enjoyed the card game. I would play it again just to play that. Everything else about the game was meh...Play FFIX instead.
I have no official plans to play IX again. I have had so much bad luck surrounding that game. I've attempted to play it several times, and it's either been my brother pawning the game, memory cards corrupting or most recently my old xp crashing resulting in me not finishing it. I don't really want to start it over yet again. My friend wants to play through the whole game over co-op though, I'd probably do that.
Anyways, why's no one like VIII? Kind of shocking, I thought it was popular, and was just me not liking it before. Seems good enough so far.
I loved 13. Amazing battle system, great voice acting, beautiful graphics, awesome music, not the best super amazing awesome masterpiece storyline but still pretty freakin' great. -shrug- Just me, though, I guess.

In the game's defense, the graphics were very well done and the
music was fantastic (the jazzy bits were amazing). The combat
system was flexible and energetic as well.
My problem was everything else, especially the pacing, it was truly
horrendous. And aside from the combat, there was almost nothing
else to do until you reached Pulse. The game was painfully linear,
worse than FFX. And Hope rivals Tidus for most annoying FF character.
10 too I suppose but not so much as the other two. I think 10 is less popular overall because of the girly main characters and the whole dress sphere thing, not exactly something most dudes can emulate with.

Though I do agree with your point about feminine characters throughout the series. Anyways, I honestly didn't like FFX so much either, mostly because of the long cutscenes and unskippable amount of time that isn't gameplay.
I think VII is the most popular one, or so it seems. It's probably my favourite. Toss up between VII & V for my favourite.
Comments on VIII hoping someone can help me.
Wondering just why the Hell I can only equip extra battle functions to Squall? I'm coming up on 2 hours into the game, and all anyone else can do currently is Attack. Where as Squall I have 5 functions to pick from for his battle (only 4 of which can be used at once), and I keep switching Magic, and item out for him. It would be nice if I could equip the item function to Zell, Selphie, or anyone else that's been in the party so far. I don't get it. I know how to change these out for Squall, but for the other characters, it wants nothing more than attack...
The bonus hit points for pressing R1 at the correct time is pretty neat, I like that feature a lot. However, only people I seem to be able to get the right timing for is Squall, and Seifer. Not sure when to click for Selphie, Quistis, and Zell. Any help here? Also, Zell has 2 punches, do I click twice? I've been assuming the hit detection is when the characters actually hit the enemy, but not for these 3 apparently.

The R1 feature only works with gunblades. Pressing R1 is kinda like squeezing the trigger on the blade.
Out of 5 people I know that played it, 1 liked it. I haven't played it. Then I have one friend who says all Final Fantasy games are bad, because he played XIII, and hated it. Great logic there, I know.

@DN- I didn't mean just this game. I meant how FF characters tend to be less than manly in general.
I agree for the most part, there are many exceptions, mainly in the older games below VII.

Makes sense, I assumed it worked for everyone since I sometimes saw explosions come from other characters when I pressed R1. Guess that was just normal old critical hits. That's cool, timing is really weird on them anyways. Squall too, I always hit R1 too soon, since he does some sort of pause during his swing of the sword, or the sword just doesn't cut smooth like Seifer.
Just got past the... Not sure what to call it, first mission that we took a boat too. I found the Robot chase both fun, and irritating.
