Final Fantasy 13
Just watched the trailer, from the looks of it, looks pretty awesome. Looks futuristicky like FF7, hopefully it won't be the train-wreck that was FF12, but it looks good, as far as I could tell. I have no choice but to try it when it comes out, unfortunately, because reviewers base their reviews on if a game has "final fantasy" in the title.

Wha? I thought pretty much every FF game was dark and serious(I didn't play the lame ones about buying dresses).

Most of them use comedic elements before the trajedy to exert a larger emotional response out of players. This technique was also used in some Romantic-period operas...

Re: Final Fantasy 13
Well yeah most have parts of light hearted comedy too but all the FFs I can think of have dark and serious plot lines at the center. Maybe not Mystic Quest but I can't be bothered to look it up.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
i don't know... for me it always seemed like ff games start out with a happy, peaceful setting (with hostile history, but at present happy and content) then shortly thereafter is the craziness and dark aspects of the storyline, whereas in ff13versus it looks like it dives right into darker aspects of the storyline from the get go... i think that's what i meant...

FF12 trainwreck?? I'm crushed... But it makes me wonder then what the combat will be like in the new one(s).

Re: Final Fantasy 13
Honestly, read first posts, then read last posts, not sure what was the general comments, I just wanted to share... yesterday I got Final Fantasy 13 I got home a little while ago and I have school tomorrow so I haven't been able to play... but very happy!!! (Forgot to mention I got home a little while ago from out of town because of long week end due to Mexican holiday and that's why I couldn't play before)
By the way... I really liked ff 12... I really don't think it was a train wreck, it gave me many many many happy play hours.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
Thanks for the review, very interesting, although I don't have to worry about the 3 discs, I got a ps3, and I think the whole game is gonna be pretty much linear, or that's what I heard somewhere else.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
Yep....pretty linear. Near the end you actually get a little bit of freedom, but it is even still pretty linear. Awesome game...really glad I bought it. Gotta check out FF 14....I think it comes out next year sometime....man I am way behind on the gaming.....oh well....
EDIT: Just realised the last post was in March......lol

Re: Final Fantasy 13
I still am refusing to play this game, I don't want more of the post-FFVII Final Fantasy games, with spiky hair, emo kids, and hours of listening to people whine, I want more of the style pre-FFVII, with interesting characters, with interesting self-conflicts {Cecil's Dark Knight/Paladin thing, how he realizes he has been nothing more than a tool to an evil king}, and interesting bad guys {Kefka}. And a good degree of freedom, with serious difficulty.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
I am not gonna lie. The last Final Fantasy game that came out that I can still play over and over is 7. The one before that is 3 (talking US release here). Those are the only two that I can pick up at any time and enjoy playing. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy other games in the Final Fantasy series, just haven't found any as good as those yet (in my opinion).

Re: Final Fantasy 13
And that is your opinion, and I respect it. The one released in the US as FFIII is awesome, and I can play it over and over, but I just couldn't get into FFVII because of Cloud's whining, and Barret's complaining about how he doesn't trust Cloud, yet he still follows Cloud. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Surprise, surprise i'm working on FF 10. It's not as dull as some of you may have mentioned when referring to post FFVII games

Re: Final Fantasy 13
It was okay, nothing fantastic. The linear path you take in the game is very disappointing since the main thing you do in RPGs is discover and explore new things while you're on the journey...none of that in here. The storyline and plot was typical JRPG stuff which really isn't surprising, the dialogue and voice acting were pretty lame but I expected that coming in. Despite all that though I quite enjoyed the battle system and the game often looked quite amazing. I'd give it a rent at least if I were to recommend it to anyone.

FFX is the exception, not the rule. Have you ever played FFX-2? If you haven't, don't. I guess FFXII is tolerable, and FFIX at least brings back the job system, but I still prefer pre-FFVII.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
I also have to ask a question, why does no one ever comment on FF11? I know it's pay to play and all but it's like no one has an opinion at all and they skip from 10 to 12 when discussing the series.

Not very many people have played it, compared to the other entries in the series.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
You mean not many people on RU right? If so then yeah, it's pretty much just me. Even so I still think it's odd that people skip right over it and don't even make negative comments. Not playing the game never stopped anyone before.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
this was actually the first 3D FF game I've played extensively. I never had a Playstation system until 2006 and even then I played FF13 on the Xbox. I've played the SNES ones more extensively than the others...FF11 didn't interest me and neither does 14. No idea why MMO Final Fantasy games need to be in the original series.

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying here. The only MMO FF game currently is 11 and that's definitely a part of the FF series. It strayed from the typical FF model but I think that's a good thing.

Re: Final Fantasy 13
I just finished my 93 hour ff13 game completing all of the sidequests and getting the ultimate weapons.
The supposed ultra hard secret boss, was an absolute wuss. I expected more from the company that brought us Yiazmat in ff12.
