Id guess it does not loop, the WR is apparently just over 3 million, while your first place sits at around 2.6.... just a guess of course.
The only game I think we should remove is chicken shift, and that's just based on the fact I don't find it fun.

I may try it later in Full Mode to see what happens after you beat it. If it loops, I don't see why it couldn't be in.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Gaming Champ
Last time I played AVP through it didn't loop but there could be a setting that allows it to.
As you said Aliens definitely does. Love that game.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Gaming Champ
One thing for sure would be a topic that updates the standings every week or so, this should bump it in the "new posts" too. That would serve as a good reminder, and also inform newbies of it in case they want to jump in midway.

I like the list so far. In the undecideds list I would I would pick Star Force as the additional shooter. I also think at least 1 of the racing games should move to the final list.

They do loop but they have all been beaten here before. I think games that haven't been beaten before, like X-Men are much more exciting. When you beat X-Men we were all amazed and rooting for you. When you beat AVP we will all be expecting it. Different level of excitement. If the second loop doesn't increase in difficulty then it is just a marathon.
|
I appreciate that. It was a fun run, but if a game loops I don't see how that would be different from something like Frogger that is also the same levels over and over. AVOP is pretty tough too, so not everyone will beat it. I haven't played this in 3-4 years, so I don't know if it gets tougher in successive loops, but it's a popular game. Not sure why the rule would be applied to Beat-em-ups, but not other genres.
I like this option.

I think this is sufficient. I wouldn't think it's your responsibility to constantly remind people of the standings when it's right on the contest page for anyone who cares to look. I had almost no time at all last year (I literally gamed for only 4-5 days including the last 1.5 days when I actually played in the GOTY compeition), but I would check now and then to see the standings. It's not hard to do.
This is a good idea and something different.
I like this idea, and it's a very hard game, so would be tough to beat.
I've never played this, but it looks fun.
Also never played this, but no objections.

If I recall, this one was somewhat glitchy, but I may be wrong.
Not my favorite game either. However, I think it should stay, as it is tough and works well.
I like Frogger, but if people are okay with a bit of legal leeching, Bagman could still work.

Star Force loops so there really is no end. There is a 1 Million point bonus but I've never made far enough into the game to get it.

Are you talking about the NES or another version? I thought there was an end in the NES one. I may be wrong, though.
@ Kong: Are we talking about different versions of AVP? I'm talking about the Coin-Op one. As far as I can see, no one on RU has beaten it before. The High Score table says "All", but that gives you that message once you get to a certain level (not if you finish the game). This is the one I mean: Alien vs Predator - Arcade/Coin-Op - Score Board

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Gaming Champ
Quiz and Dragons is fine, it has a crap ton of questions as far as I can tell and randomizes them pretty well. I've played it a lot and kept getting new questions far more than I got repeat ones.

Battlantis seems alright. I have never played it before and got 20k on my first go. Crap score, but if I played it enough 74k doesnt seem too hard to beat.

I meant setting up something automated, just something to bump the contest page periodically.

I am also ok with making a new rule that we will add all points from all levels to create a total score.

Don't we then have to create that rule for every game using the same or similar scoring system?

To me that is too much extra work especially in a long playthrough. I think Dune 2 should be out.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Gaming Champ
If Dune 2 goes (which I'm kind of in favor for it leaving) I suggest replacing it with a game that screams retro. One of the following coin-op games:
Space Invaders
Asteroids
Centipede
Donkey Kong Junior
Frogger
Pac Man
Donkey Kong
Burgertime
Q*bert
Ms. Pac Man
Galaga
Dig Dug

Since you will be one of the ones doing the extra work, I will leave the rule as is and veto the game from the contest.
I'll work on making it easier to score these types of games this year and it can be used next year.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Gaming Champ
Karnov looks too easy to max out at 999,999. Several people have done it at TG and MARP so I assume at least a couple of people would here.

Re: 2013 Retro Uprising Gaming Champ
The Arcade Karnov is one of those games where once you learn what to do and what items to use exactly where, it becomes really easy. Until that point it will seem like an extremely hard game.
I had friends that could max out the score quite handily at the corner store by my house when I was younger so I imagine we definitely have gamers here who could do it already.
