re: 3DS Members List
Excellent FAQ, it pretty much sums up everything known about the device so far. If I may suggest, I think you should include a single picture of the unit in your post, or link to them.

74 games... holy crap!!!! And I can't wait to crack open my 3DS some night and see my game has magically grown.
I think I'll be camping out for this one, I've never camped out for anything before.

re: 3DS Members List
The screens from Metal Gear Solid 3, look even better than the game ever looked on my PS2, I will at some point have to get myself one of these, though I'll probably have to sell a kidney on the black market to get the money.

re: 3DS Members List
I hadn't bought a DS but 3DS sounds excellent... sort of... just one question... it has backward compatibility with DS... but does it have backward compatibility with the older gameboy games? I have a box full of gb, gbc, gba games that I'd really like to be able to play without having to carry around my gba

re: 3DS Members List
It would be nice, but I doubt it.
Beacuse it has two slots and the new games for the 3DS are different, the extra slot is for the
DS. But at least a GBA can't be too expensive nowadays.

No. I wouldn't expect anything in the future to support GB/GBC/GBA games ever again.

It has an SD card slot, about 3 months after release there'll be a GBA emulator for it.

re: 3DS Members List
1up posted an article today revealing some specs about the 3DS.
Nintendo 3DS Graphics Chip Revealed, Specifications Inside
Although there is still no word on the CPU or memory size, the GPU tech has been revealed. It is a Digital Media Professionals PICA 200 chip.
- Frame buffer: Maximum 4095x4095 pixels
- Pixel format: RGBA4444, RGB565, RGBA5551, RGBA8888
- Vertex program (ARB_vertex_program)
- Render to texture
- Mipmap
- Bilinear texture filtering
- Alpha blending
- Full-scene antialiasing (2x2)
- Polygon offset
- 8-bit stencil buffer
- 24-bit depth buffer
- Single/Double/Triple buffer
- Vertex performance: Maximum 15.3M polygons/sec (at 200MHz)
- Pixel performance: Maximum 800M pixels/sec (at 200MHz)
- DMP MAESTRO technology: per-pixel lighting, procedural texture, refraction mapping, subdivision primitive, shadow, gaseous object rendering
Here's a flyer for said GPU (5MB .pdf):
http://www.dmprof.com/release/leaflet_PICA200_en.pdf
15.3 M polygons per second
For comparison,
Gamecube: 20.25 M polygons per second
PS2: 18.75 M polygons per second
Xbox: 29.125 M polygons per second
Pixel Fillrate: 800 M per second
Gamecube: 648 M/sec
PS2: 2.352 billion/sec
Xbox: 932 M/sec

re: 3DS Members List
It is quite a step up from the original DS, which is limited to only 2048 poloygons and has no true framebuffer.
There are also more options for pixels' colors, the original DS's only pixel format is 6 bits each for red, green, and blue components, giving 262,144 possible colors.
The new DS gives different modes that take up less graphic memory, or you can go all out and give each pixel 8 bit resolution + an 8 bit alpha component, for 16.8 million colors, plus more with alpha enabled.
Many more graphics operations are supported by the hardware, and probably in a much nicer way than in the standard DS. A 4095x4095 size framebuffer is pretty large for a screen thats only 400x240.
Even without knowing the CPU, the graphics performace is pretty close to last gen systems.

It almost seems the graphics will be better, seeing as the original DS could use the processors devoted to each screen on just one screen to produce amazing graphics at times, I'm sure this one can do the same.
