Sonic the Hedgehog
Man, I miss the golden era of Sonic's reign. I remember Sonic as a super fast blue hedgehog whose games had great catchy music (Green Hills theme, Starlight Zone, etc) Super fast speed (Blast processing anyone?), great level design with a bunch of traps and quirks (Springyard Zone, Carnival Night Zone), and 90's coolness (spiky quills (hair) and 90's power sneakers) but lately Sonic's games aren't fun anymore. Gone are the days of early 90's synth music and fun levels. Before, Sonic was what his name was, A lightning fast hedgehog, but now Sonic isn't even fast anymore. Not only that but Sonic is barely in the game now, he has all of these other characters besides Miles "Tails" Prower who I got named after, just the Miles part and Knuckles, but Silver the Hedgehog and Shadow. What's with all the characters? I think their cool characters but they don't really add anything to the game. Sonic also uses vehicles now which is weird because he's supposed to be fast and now they incorporated weapons to the series (Shadow the Hedgehog) Sonic really needs to go back to his roots like in Sonic Rush but no longer is he the 'Dude with Tude. Well a gamer can dream for his comeback.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
It happens like that sometimes, not just games but books movie sequels ect.. they try to "evolve" the idea and it doesn't always work. Some people like the new way sonic is going I bet, but I agree I was kinda disappointed that he basically isn't the same character anymore. He looks the same with some updates but like you said I didn't notice the same level of speed anymore.
I haven't played through any recent sonics but I've seen them, it's not the same game anymore that's for sure. The vehicles and weapons are kinda odd to add. But this could also lead to a really good sonic game to redeem themselves.
But yeah luigi is still cooler than sonic. :P

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
While the majority of the Sonic games from the 128bit and higher generations haven't maintained the same concepts of the classic games, there are still exceptions to this rule. Sonic Riders was a very fast-paced game that, while a racing game, still encapsulated the core elements of what makes Sonic games cool. Plus, you can unlock NiGHTS in the game, so it's an instant win. ;D
Going even newer, Sonic and the Secret Rings for the "Revolution" really takes it back to the roots of the series. The only playable character is Sonic (sorry, not even Tails get a chance this time), it is very fast-paced, and altogether a real joy to play. And, not to worry if you're a fan of the supporting cast, as there is a plethora of mini-games that they can participate in when you're in a party atmosphere. I can't vouch for the game that came out for the 360/PS3, but this one was a lot of fun.
On a side note, while not like the original games, I have enjoyed every Sonic game that I have ever played...with the exception of Sonic Shuffle for the Dreamcast. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, but the AI in that game is friggin' unbeatable. They always seem to "roll" the right number of spaces to get what they need and they are the masters of every mini-game in the assortment. A game shouldn't only be fun when you have four players, so that is why this one fails.

Yes, I agree that Sonic and the Secret rings is getting back to what made the series great, in fact, I bought the game and it is a breath of fresh air from the PS3/360 Sonic game. Yet, I still feel Sonic played best in a 2-D aspect like in Sonic Rush because Sonic is way faster and I just miss the classic 90's style to the character. He looks a little different but basically the same and I think Sonic just needs to remain fast and memorable. What would really ruin the series for me is that they would include rap music which I'm not a big fan of and some of the new Sonic levels aren't as rememerable for some reason like the old games. Yes, and I agree that Luigi is cooler than Sonic. He's my favorite Mario character and I relate to him more. I am clumsy and scared easily but that's why I think Luigi's appealing because he has more memorable traits compared to Mario and that's what makes him appealing.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog
Same thing here except it was my cousins who made me second player. My brother wasn't born yet and my cousins, being 5 years older, made me player 2 in everything. So I was always Luigi, Tails, Lance (from Contra), etc. Though I think its cool that my name is Miles like Tails. Luigi rules all!
