How do you like your Mario? 2D or 3D?

I've never known as much hype for a Nintendo game as for Super Mario Galaxy 2. I remember people being ridiculously excited about The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Mario Sunshine but perhaps the buzz surrounding Galaxy 2 trumps them all. Perhaps it's because we know we're being treated. After all this is the first time that there have been two 3D Mario games on one console and it's the follow up to perhaps the greatest Mario adventure of them all.

But will it be the biggest Mario game yet? History would suggest otherwise. I received a list of the [ame="http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=392872"]lifetime sales for Mario games in Japan[/ame] this morning and it makes for interesting reading. As you can see below, just one 3D Mario game makes the top ten and it's right at the bottom. Galaxy is absent. Meanwhile New Super Mario Bros. Wii is now the fifth best selling Mario game of all time in Japan and if it carries on selling at its current 40,000 per week rate, it won't be long before it overtakes Super Mario Bros. 3.

2D, I really really hate 3D Mario.

The only 3d Mario I ever played was 64 and I didn't even finish it since I only played it at a friend's house. That New Mario for the Wii looks awsome and I would really like to play that one.

I've played almost every Mario game, and I'd have to say 3D Mario added alot to gameplay.

Not really, it's a 2D engine game play wise.

I gotta say 2D for me. Stuff like Sunshine and Galaxy were cool but they didn't feel like Marios Bros to me. Mario Bros Wii is where it's at.

I want a new good Yoshi's Island game =(. The SNES one is the best 2D platformer game EVER in my opinion.
