Wow, that is a HUGE deal. It does sound like that 1919 World Series throwout.

I expect that as the internet continues to expand that these kind of deals for internet games will be harder to root out as they become more underground. Although, this is certainly a worst case scenario, you'd be hard pressed to find a more organized league for competitive gaming like Starcraft is in South Korea.

This is sad but not surprising. People will be tempted to cheat regardless of what they're doing, video games are no exception. When you combine games with official contests and cash prizes the temptation becomes almost impossible to resist for many people.

This case sucks because I always thought of these SC tournaments as helping to legitimize gaming contests. This corruption is a huge blow to credibility.

It really does, SC is the biggest competitive gaming league around (at least in S. Korea). Oh well, I guess we won't be seeing Olympic teams for gaming for a while now =P.

Blizzard seriously announced that game way too freaking early, I was in high school still when they announced that.

Actually, I think Blizzard will probably be working on anti-cheating methods for its next installment for StarCraft. It wouldn't surprise me.
