Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid?
I was watching the trailer to the "Karate Kid" movie and noticed that it's a bit off. I don't know about you, but the last time I checked, karate is from Japan. How are you going to make a movie called "Karate Kid" when the teacher is Chinese and the location is in China? I think it should be titled "Kung Fu Kid" instead. I'm still going to watch it because I love just about any martial arts flick and I really like Jackie Chan.

Re: Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid?
true, karate does not originate from china, nor does it originate from the japanese home islands, it actually comes from okinawa.
do you want to know why it is called "the karate kid"? simple. $$$$$ no one would go what the kung fu kid, but all of the people that grew up in the 80's, wishing they could crane kick, fight the cobra kai, and hook up with knee sock wearing elizabeth shue will likely take their kids to go see the new karate kid...that is of course if the movie doesn't bomb anyway.

Re: Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid?
Yeah I know it's all about the money. It doesn't bother me it's just something I noticed. I'm going to watch it anyways. If it sucks then too bad. It can't be as bad as some of the movies I've seen in the past.

Re: Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid?
I would think naming it Kung Fu Kid would have distinguished it from Karate Kid and been a good marketing move. It isn't like it is a remake or sequel.
Looks like Chan is starting to transition into old wise man roles. Had to eventually happen but I like his young naive characters.
Jackie Chan is one of the few people that I am a big fan of. I will watch it.

Re: Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid?
It looks alright, but it would be better if it didn't share the name Karate Kid. The movie looks almost completely different.

Re: Karate Kid or Kung Fu Kid?
This is just a vehicle to launch Will Smiths kid into stardom. They don't care about accuracy when it comes down to it, Karate Kid is an established name so it's a no brainer. I'm kind of surprised that Jackie signed on for this.
I'll most likely see it either way because I <3 Jackie.

Yeah I agree but he is 55 so it's understandable. I remember hearing that he doesn't think he can move like he used to and he doesn't want to do a poor job with his martial arts/stunts. He's a smart guy and he realizes his active days are coming to an end.

@ MichelleHeart- Clean what up
All right, so it seems everyone agrees that the title is a bit inaccurate, but we'll still watch it because Jackie Chan is awsome.

Not sarcastic DB, at least not online. It helps to have my grammar and spelling corrected.
