Spider-Man Reboot!

For those of you who don't already know, there will not be a Spider-Man 4 instead there will be a Spider-Man reboot. Pretty much what happened was that director Sam Raimi couldn't find a script that he liked and he wasn't going to make the release date for Spider-Man 4 on May 4th, 2011. So he departed from the project altogether and Tobey Maguire as well. Sony Pictures plans to have James Vanderbilt write a script for the reboot and send the web-slinger back to high school. What are your thoughts on this, good or bad? And if you have any wishes as to what you want the reboot to include in it please feel free to share!

Well I think Batman Begins is a good example of what could be. I really feel that this could help. The Spiderman movies were ok in my opinion. I would have liked more depth into the characters and story. Spiderman 3 was a waste of my time. I hated how there were three big enemies squeezed into one movie. Venom is more than big enough of a character that he deserves all of spiderman's attention. So yeah, I think taking it back to the begining and starting from scratch would be a more than welcome idea.

I agree with Jozman but I'm not as optimistic about it. I'm worried that they'll try to focus on the teen drama thing to attract a young crowd and just ignore all the older fans who won't care for it.
Btw how about the rumors of Robert Pattinson taking over the role of Spiderman? Sure it's being denied by everyone but Hollywood is known for casting retardedly to capitalize on fame. Coming off the Twilight movies this might just be true in the end. If he plays spiderman there's an automatic fanbase from day 1. If this happens I doubt I'll watch anymore Spiderman moves.

I always hated spiderman except for Retro Uprising - Arcade - Spider-Man and Venom in Separation Anxiety

So are the just going to start the whole series over with new actors and retell it from the beginning. Lame.

I agree on this one. I didn't like Spider-Man 3 very much (tried to do too much), I thought the first two were pretty good. I also am not excited about seeing it go all high school. I hear the next X-men is going to be the same way, so that's kind of a bummer too.

It's almost like they're trying to sabotage the superhero theme. The decision makers in Hollywood(or where ever they are) are so out of touch it's not even funny anymore.

Too true. To me it seems like they are trying to appeal to the little kids instead of doing stories with more mature characters that would appeal to older audiences. That's how I felt about the more recent X-Men Evolution cartoon too. It was the same way.

Right now, I think the Iron Man and Batman franchises are the only ones that are still trying to do anything more mature. I hope Thor will be cool, though.

I had higher hopes for the new stuff coming out of Marvel, but I read an article last week where Disney was talking about how they are about to get more involved in Marvel films, so I don't know what's going to happen with that now either.

Btw did you hear the next Xmen movie is supposed to be about a young Magneto? Sure it sounds like it might be ok but you can bet he'll be emo and uninteresting. This isn't how it should be of course, remember that scene where he bends the bars in the concentration camp? Yeah, it better be more like that.

Sure, but the X-Men cartoon from the 90's was too, and it was awesome. They told great stories and featured mostly grown up characters, not the Muppet Babies versions.

I don't know if it will be true, but what I heard is that it will feature young high school versions of Cyclops, Jean Gray, etc., but will somehow feature the Magneto origin story too. I think originally they were going to do an X-Men Origins: Magneto movie, but now they are going to combine the story with X-Men High.

I understand marketing to younger people but I know when I was a kid I wanted to emulate older people and adult situations, not stuff I was already doing basically. Am I alone in that? Was there some shift in our culture that I missed? Was I so cool I missed this lameness when I was a kid?

It is annoying, marketing to the 6-10 year old crowd, and Disney's involvment could make it worse.
Batman has never seemed to be marketed towards kids, it's just too violent and dark and any change to this will ruin Batman.

I was really looking forward to The Lizard showing up in the fourth installment in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series, although its been rumored that he was going to go with The Vulture played by the amazing John Malkovich. I'd also like to see The Scorpion. But since they're rumored to be going with the Ultimate Spider-Man storylines we'll probably see a Spidey vs. Venom in the first movie. Hopefully they get it right this time...

Yeah that's a good point. I think most of Ledgers criticism came from his role as gay cowboy Enis(not a typo) in Brokeback Mountain. I saw the movie and didn't like it but I can safely say that Ledger did a great job in it.

Yeah it's a bold role but I'm sure he did it with that in mind. He wanted to be known as an actor who'll do anything for a role, being Enis accomplished that goal I'd say. Without spoiling anything he gives his all for the role. I don't remember any nudity(might've blacked it out

) but it would be very uncomfortable for homophobes.

I don't wanna derail this but I doubt a topic about Brokeback would get much activitiy. Has anyone here seen it?
