street fighter hands down, its got the funnest gameplay of any series, simple as that.

I voted Tekken because it's awesome. Street Fighter has become to much of a joke for my tastes, all flash and bs no substance.

Btw that list is kind of short.

Tekken is my personal favorite. The list is short because I couldn't think of any more at the time. Could you add Soul Caliber for me? I don't know how to add more options.

fighting games are as complex as you want to make them, you guys are learn your 10 hit, 65 button 100% damage king combos, and street fighter players are learning all the very subtle ins and outs of the game.
i find most 3d fighting games play out very chunky-like, too slow, like press down-down towards- towards and hit a button, then dont touch the controller for 3 seconds while you watch your player, anticipate his move, excecute his move, and then recover from his move. this results in too many retarded breaks in the action. where as street fighter (aswell as most other 2d fighters) have a steady flow of awsomeness.
I can see people digging the 3d games if they cant handle the fast pace of an old school fighter though, so i can see where you guys are coming from.

Sorry Steven but SF has gone downhill since it's early days. Now we see clownish combos that take off far too much health. Combine that with crappy characters like Birdie and you get a subpar fighting game. I guess if you like ultra flashy, rehashed fighting games it's still cool.

I still love Soul Calibur. I don't like martial arts fighting games, many characters seem too similar. When you put weapons in the combatants hands, it really spices things up.

Yeah Soul Caliber is cool too. It does have some balance issues but they can be overlooked.

im guessing your talking about sf4, because ive played them (not all of them mind you) up till 3 third strike, and its not full of clownish combos.

Well yeah I can see that being annoying if you don't take the time to learn the game. Every multi part throw has a counter, you only get destroyed if you don't counter. Besides, at least King is an original character. How many Ryu clones are in SF nowdays? Hmm, just about every character, right?

For me, putting coins into

brings back precious memories, so that's why I voted for Street Fighter.
I understand that the game is flawed in so many ways, but that's what gives it its appeal.
OK, I admit that
Chun Li

and
Cammy

have a lot to do with it, but that's GIRL POWER in action.
Is it possible that same girl power accounts for at least some of the other games' popularity as well?
