Re: Final Fantasy 6 retranslated
Ted Woosley did a fine job in my opinion. the game's major faults are more game mechanic issues.
1. There aren't many outstanding TL mistakes in the game. The biggest one is when Realm refers to Shadow as "she" instead of "he" in the World of Ruin.
2. The Japanese version would sometimes use English words to give certain pronouns a foreign feel. While the names Tina and Snow Man may have been exotic in late 90's Japan, they don't exactly have the same effect in their native language.
3. Some times the game would refer to obscure Japanese historical/mythological characters. As such, we wouldn't "get it". Would have fighting Suuno and Seeno really been as easily referenced as battling buffoons as Moe, Larry, and Curly?
4. Also, some of the translation had to be "squished" so that the English characters (8 ) would fit in the same space the Kanji would (12). Zone Seeker was turned into ZoneSeek and such.
