Where Do you guys think it becomes l337sp34k?

Ok, So I'm sitting here, and I'm thinking about the internet grammatical form that is hated by most, known as 1337 sp34k. I'm wondering: Where does it become l337? If I wrote a regular sentence, but put an "lol" in there, I wouldn't consider it l337, however, if I wrote:

OMGZ GUYZ I JU57 G07 C0D 5 w007!

It would. So, what do you guys think?

I hear about what you speak of all the time, however, I've never seen it used online. Is it mainly just something used with certain age demographics or what?

im pretty sure its mostly used by that sub-genre of nerds that think that their astronomical intelligence and computer savvy, makes them better then others

Actually, 1337 is very, very old by internet standards. I remember first seeing it at least six or seven years ago while playing an MMO. It became extremely popular at the time, but like all internet fads, it eventually died. It also caused the the start of "fonix", and of course, the idiotic "|_|83|? 1337".

The only people who still use it are either A) completely out of the loop, or B) using it mockingly.

i remember seeing leet speak when i was in high school, 10+ years ago, and likely it was around since the late 80's or early 90's

i think the use of two or more leet speak terms in the same sentence constitutes leet speak.

I thought I heard it started on AOL chatrooms. Makes sense to me because AOL is so full of fail.

the only odd speak I use is LOL speak for which I blame the I can haz cheezburger cats for.

short words like BRB, LOL, and AFK dont seem to be much of a problem to me... I dotn see them as leet speak (whatever that is..)
though some picture words are kinda cool such as..
^^ >(^-^)<
<(^.^<) are very neat and well done^.^. I have never had a problem with those.. I have issues only with the REALLY big ones like.. this Im gonna copy and paste from a youtube thing..

It looks neat but is utterly pointless in my opinion.. plus it takes up TONs of room.. id say tis fine for a Signature, but thats about it.

I hate leet!
Only because I dont really understand it.

I mean, dont get it twisted,
I do cut certain leters out of sentences when im txting or emailing
but thats it.
for example -

iya wot u up 2 2nite?
iz off to da pub,
r u up 4 a pint
imma getta joebaxi.
c u l8r
sez xxxxxx

then again i av grew out ov tlkin lik dat,
i cnt b boverd.

i always like watching the news and seeing stories that were aimed to notify parents about leet speak and parents were flipping out because they thought their kids were going "crash override"

Seriously though I reread this and I decided to wiki leetspeak and it's actually an interesting subject. To answer the OP there's no actual structure to leetspeak so there's no clear lines about what is or isn't leet.`

I agree, they are beyond leetspeak now. AFK might still be unknown to a lot of people but BRB and LOL are part of the English language now.

I prefer my words to be made out of letters and my sentences to follow the rules of grammar as closely as possible.
It becomes leet when it has numbers in the words, and it bugs me, I understand it. It is just irritating.
