I am terrible at these games.

I don't understand. I'm fine at these easy, new school games... but these guys? No. I don't get them. They're too difficult and frustrating. I don't think I'll understand any of you guys who have like, 22 high scores (yes, that's you, Tenser Hunter).

Well, anyway, I'm going to stop trying now, and hope I have more success in leveling up my forum account.

I don't have many high scores but my advice is to find some games you like and just focus on them.

I had 1 score before snes was added, now I have 5, And I don't cover a vast area of games, I just fortify my scores, I still have to get mine back from steven, But I'm not going to give up because he beat it.

Don't give up. The more you play, the more you will get a feel for the games and start setting scores. There are a lot of types of games and systems on here, so maybe just start looking through the list of games for each system and find some you enjoy playing and can work on improving at.

The forum is always a fun way to level up too, but if you want to set scores keep trying.

My high scores are mostly incidental and goofing off (except for ones gained through contests and 1943). The majority of our members could take most high scores with little effort. Once you realize that, the arcade becomes more off a fun little distraction.

I prefer to work on my NES completed list which is in my signature. If anyone would like to start one in that thread just send me a PM.

also, you need to realize that the core idea of gaming has changed. now a days, the game developers want the player to continue through the game to see the story. thus, the difficulty of new games has been toned down. in the old days, the challenge was to obtain a high score and the difficulty was high to begin with and gradually increased to prevent the player from reaching the high score.

Indeed. That's a good point Jim. Back in the day games would try to brutalize you to the point where if you beat the high score, or mastered it enough to actually beat the game, it was a big accomplishment [hence our ongoing battle in Sky Kid which I will return to soon.]

I still like gaming today, but it's true, it's less about the challenging gameplay and more about the story. While that's not a bad thing, games are typically not as unforgiving as they once were.

Modern games usually make up for the easy difficulty aspect by including difficulty modes and hard to obtain unlockables and completion percentages.

80% of my scores I never owned the game. The only way to get familiar with a game is to play it.

Agreed Sabby. I have previously played a lot of the games that are on here, but there are many many that I had never heard of before R.U. that I have played a lot and enjoy and am now pretty good at. (Sorry for the run-on sentence.)

My mother bought me Back to the Future for NES as a birthday present. The game was awful, but I didn't have the heart to tell her. Which meant that I had to play it so she wouldn't find out how much I hated it. Oooo man that game sucks...
