What's your favorite rpg.
A lot of these games I've come across I have never played so I thought I would ask, what do you think is the best rpg games to play here and why. I can't make up my mind. ;D

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
There's a lot of great RPGs to choose from. It would help if you told us what kind of RPGs you like.
I suggest,
Ultima Quest of the Avatar for NES
Shadowrun for Genesis
Pirates! Gold for Genesis
There's more but that's all I can think of atm.

I am partial to a couple.
The legend of zelda series for NES, SNES, 64, GC, but not the ones on GB's (never played those ones)
Final Fantasy 3
Crono Trigger.

Super Mario RPG or Pokemon Silver.
Of course, the Mario RPG and Pokemon games are pretty much the only ones I've ever played...

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
Yeah, same here Pokemon and FF are both timeless rpg's, although Dragon Warrior is fun to.

I was wondering how long it would take you to notice that Tenser. Did you miss this one?

I figured you'd make him be more specific.

No, I caught it. I've just grown tired of trying to educate the masses.
*Dragon Warrior 1 is not an RPG btw*

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
here we go again, tenser how on earth even for 1 second could suggest that dragon warrior 1 is not an rpg. i can only hope that your joking
EDIT: now that i think about it dont bother explaining why its not an rpg, i will not be convinced so itll just be redundant

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
Tenser has a point about DW1 not being an RPG. If anything it's just barely an RPG. All the other ones are real RPGs though.

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
Roleplaying games are about character custumization and player choices. Those do not exist in DW1. There is no down side from buying the next sword you come to. Their is no upside for retaining your old armor or even saving it. No matter what you do, you will always learn the same exact spells and the same exact level for the same exact damage calculations.
You are given ZERO options.

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
just out of curiousity ten, where did you get your oh so specific rules on what an rpg is? for me there is no specific rules to categorize an rpg you just know one when you see one, there are very few games out there that i would not be sure how to classify. dragon warrior is not one of them.

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
You really think having character customization and player choice is specific.
I kind of get what you're saying but there has to be at least general guidelines to a classification system. By your statement if I said DW was a shooter than it would be true and people should just understand that.
So the big question then Steven, my four year old currently doesn't know the words RPG and adventure. Using your own text, define them difference between the two for him.

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
I know this point has been debated over and over, but I consider anything with experience points and leveling up an RPG. Therefore: Zelda, definitely not an RPG. I don't know about Dragon Warrior I, I have played that game for about an hour in my entire life, and it has been a while.

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
I don't consider DW1 to be an rpg either, if you only have one person who is always has a specifically set increase in abilities then I would not consider it an rpg.
Basically I'm just repeating what Tenser said, which is no real shocker.

Re: What's your favorite rpg.
i pretty much agree with what you say makes an rpg, however eliminating a game from the genre just because the game doesnt fit the criteria excatly is going a little to far. dragon warrior has enough of the elements that make up an rpg for it to classified an rpg. and like i said earlier, i dont have a set of rules for a game to be considered one genre over the other, its just based on growing up playing them.
