The Game Room

The wife and I have been talking about setting up a room for nothing but video games. With her and her newer consoles, my moldy oldies, and the boy really starting to get into gaming it seems practicle.

My major concern is connecting well over a dozen systems to one TV. I'd also appreciate any helpful Dos and Donts from those who have their own.

I don't want something this corny:
( Click to show/hide )

Or this messy:
( Click to show/hide )

I'm just looking for a place to relax, drink, smoke nad have some buddies over. It needs to be set up so I can just turn one system off and the next one on.
[br]Posted on: November 13, 2008, 06:01:03 AM_________________________________________________I guess what I'm trying to say is I dont want to show off my collection but instead just be able to chill.

Re: The Game Room

I think connecting that many systems is a bad idea. Do you really play all of them that much? I only have my PC and 360 ready to go. My other systems sit in the other room. But I hate having tons of wires and stuff plugged in.

I don't think I have to worry about electrical matters because I'm only running one system at a time.

As for how often I play, I usually play every system at least once every two weeks. Its mostly for convienance with how I play. I play different systems in short bursts.

Like today:
I played Castlevania X (SNES) for 20 mins.
I played PepperII (Coleco) for 5 mins.
I played Mario Golf (N64) for 40 mins.
I played Mega Man 3 (NES) for 10 mins.

Plus I played a couple of short games on RU and one on the C64, but those have their own screens.

I have a short attention span! ;D

Re: The Game Room

I guess you do. I usually get hooked on one game for a week or so. Lately they've all been for 360 so it works out.

Re: The Game Room

I only have my Gamecube hooked up right now, & I don't play it as often as I used to. And I would occasion play a TV game or two & it's usually Pac-Man when I do. Right now, most of my gaming is on the GBA & on the NES section of RU.

Re: The Game Room

I've been debating on whether to buy a Nintendo Wii or a Panasonic 3DO FZ-10 and the 3DO has won out. :P

Re: The Game Room

3DO is awesome. It was the last system I ever owned. I got it for about $10 right after it crashed. You could still rent games for it from BlockBuster at the time. I was around 17. If you like Laser Disk games (Space Ace and Dragon's Lair) and Point and Click games (Myst) then you made a great choice.

I played the Wii once at a game store demo. The baseball game with the wiimote. I thought it sucked. The wiimote seemed very gimmicky and pointless.

Yeah, there's some really nice selections for the 3DO. A lot of adventure style games. Plus the fact that there's no regional lock-out and it will read 3DO games burned onto a CDR sold me.

I decided to go with the FZ-10 because early models of the FZ-1 and Goldstar had issues with playing a small amount of games. When I find one on ebay I like and win a bid I'll take a pic of me making sweet love to it.

Re: The Game Room

I don't know about setting up that many systems. I have a 360, Wii and PS3 hooked up to one of those things with the buttons that changes the signal. The 360 and PS3 are under the TV and the Wii on the floor off to the side. Then I have an end table with my Dreamcast and Genesis, both hooked up via cable television connection.

OH, and a DVD player hooked up to the same thing as the 360 and PS3. It's a pretty good setup, but that's only 6 things hooked up.

I also own a TG-16 but its broken.

That's currently 9 systems that hook to the TV. Plus the wife owns a GC and 360 for 2 more. Also Ethan has his VSmile and Smartcycle for another 2.

Why wish? You could go to Amazon.com right now and buy a Saturn for $26. With shipping a game might cost you $6. I don't see the problem.

A suggestion though, stay away from bundles unless you were actually planning on buying most of the games anyways.

Re: The Game Room

2 questions about the first pic.

1. Why was the 360 in there?

2. Who keeps the piece of crap virtual boy? The only good games on it are Wario Land and the Boxing game, then all the others go from mediocre-crap.

and the second pic doesn't work.

Anyway, I really can't help you.

Re: The Game Room

Don't. You can only play for 15 minutes without straining your eyes or getting a headache, it's all red and black, the only good games are Wario Land and Boxing, and you can't save. It's advertised as portable, but you can't even get comfortable playing it at home, and only boxing and some mediocre flight simulator are first person.

I know what it is and I've played one before. Trust me, its low on my list of priorities but someday I'll own one just for the few games I'd want for it.

Re: The Game Room

it's a few hundred bucks for very few games. And don't expect to play those games for long, you get a headache after 15 minutes. Trust me, it proboably wouldn't cost THAT much more to get an arcade machine or something.

I wouldn't buy it, and if you do buy it, don't expect it to be an actual portable system. It gets two reccomendations:

Terroboxer

Wario Land

The other 12 games released in North America aren't worth it. No wonder why Virtual Boy lasted under a year.
