Videogame Movies
The topic started by sezthemark about the Sims movie inspired me to do this.
Post your opinions, discuss, ramble on about a particular film and all other stuff about films based on games.

Re: Videogame Movies
What's a good game to movie conversion? I can't think of any.
The Broken Sword movie might turn out to be good. At least it is a game with a fully developed story that involves normal humans doing somewhat normal things. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=20540

Re: Videogame Movies
I think Advent Children was good, but it could've been better. Seemed like some of the story was rushed and/or not finished.
But, the movie looks awesome.
Watch this video from the movie if you have doubts.
Btw, don't get me wrong, I think everyone should see it.

Re: Videogame Movies
Tomb Raider is good. I heard Resident Evil is good. I don't know about the rest.
True Crime: Streets of LA would've make a great movie.

Re: Videogame Movies
I voted depends on the game simply because Kong is right
broken sword has potential to be a great movie and I know sez and I are going to go see it not togeather but we are huge fans of that game ask me about it if you want to know if its worth playing I may even make a recomended topic about it because I think its that good.
I also voted depends on the game because they have attempted to make some movies out of games but no one has really put the effort into making something good besided advent children that was the first atempt I have seen at a descent game movie but like dudebro said parts seemed rushed
what movies have they maid based on games
Super mario bros
Double Dragon
FF spirits within
FF advent children
sims movie (rumored would need source because I dont feel like looking it up.)
so it has gotten better but can you imagin if they did make that zelda movie. or how about a Gears of War movie
or even better yet A Halo movie
I think the video game movies fail because 1 its not based on a great game (dont get me wrong mario is a great game but it does not have much of a plot girl get kidnaped must save her same for double dragon)
So I think with the advancement of movies and how movies are made the newer games that are released have more of a storyline and a plot so a movie could be made easier as a prequil or sequil
even mass effect could be a good movie.

Re: Videogame Movies
They're making a Broken Sword movie? Cool.
My sister is a huge fan of the Broken Sword games, i usualy enjoy watching her play. Broken Sword does have potentil to become a good movie as it is a game that is fun to watch as well as play.
The last Broken Sword wasnt as good as the previous ones though, i hope the film will be better.

Re: Videogame Movies
Maybe making movies out of games with more abstract storylines, like Mech Warrior for example, there are so many versions and branches of the story it wouldn't be that hard to follow one and it be coherent with the story of the games, speaking of which thats another issue, some of the movies based off of games don't follow any od the story or to a bad job relating and tie-ing it in.
I was hoping for the Metroid or the Mech movies to make it but last I heard both were canned

Re: Videogame Movies
metroid would be a good movie.
but the movies dont fallow the stories on most of them because the earlier movies were made on game that have no story line like mario bros or double dragon. (yes they have a story line but its a very minimal one)

Re: Videogame Movies
true, but like if I'm remembering right, Doom had NOTHING to do with the game, i know not much story there, but the fact of it was a Gateway to Hell, not genetically altered freaks, bad example but do you see what im saying, better example, the first FF movie had nothing to do with the games, and FF has a separate story for almost every installment?

Re: Videogame Movies
True that, if your gonna make a good game based movie it's gotta be a good game, and it's gotta stick to the original storyline. If the original story line wasn't very good you shouldn't even be making a movie about it in the first place.

I would argue that final fantasy is a good game but the movie sucked its all about the screen play they could have made the FF movie ten times better if they made it today with better technology

It's pretty much assumed that they'll make a Halo movie, but I've heard rumors of a Bioshock movie to.

Re: Videogame Movies
well, its kinda hard to make a game where you already know whats gonna happen, if you change it there's not alot of room to tweak and change with the characters and environments so, its almost like theyre doomed to fail

Re: Videogame Movies
They used to always stink at first, but since 2004, they were starting to get better. Not to say all the movie-based games from the here & now were good however.
