In the movies of The Matrix trilogy, there was a character named Morpheus<--- SPELLING ERROR? Well, they picked the name specifically for it's meaning that ties into the movie plot. What was it's purpose?
Hint: has to do with greek mithgology.

Morpheus is the pseudonym of one of the main characters in the Wachowski Brothers' The Matrix film, played by Laurence Fishburne as the one who awakens Neo from his "sleep"

sleep = dreams and thats how it ties in?

He is also referred to in Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene (1590). He sleeps on an ebony bed in a dimly lit cave, surrounded by poppy flowers. morpheus did nothing really he was the savior of the people he freed people from the dream called "the matrix"

well he did that in the first movie he freed neo

dont really know what else he did except be bad ass

and I really hated his character in the third movie seemed to pompus to me.

Let's see... From what I know, in Greek Mythology Morpheus is the god of dreams, so he's able to wake Neo up in the Matrix world? I don't know how else the "god of dreams" part fit into the movies.

Maybe it wasn't Greek mythology. It said that Morphious was the assistant of waking up one of the Greek (or a different mythological god from another civilization. Maybe the Romans) gods. The Matrix had his name as Morpheous because he awakened people from his sleep.
