This was before my time on RU, so I missed it.

I don't know too much about it, but it seems to me that a lot of the older consoles had far greater potential than the programming of the day would allow.
What I mean is that I think peoples' understanding of programming has advanced since that time, and that's how you can make a silk purse from a sow's ear, so to speak.

Quite frankly I'm amazed at the things people are doing with retro games nowadays - things we never would have dreamed of back in the 70's and 80's, and it all came down to the level of understanding people had back then.
