-Games should be tournament worthy. Nothing that can be marathoned, nothing that has an obtainable maxout score, nothing that has leeching etc etc
-In general we should pick games that are easily emulated. I.e. games with unique controls should be out. I know this may seem biased because I only use a keyboard but overall it makes things a lot easier.
-Pick games we can do decent at.
I think picking games that are better for the tournament should be our priority. Obviously if we can do that AND be good at the games, that would be ideal
Cheers!

For the moment i don't have other idea, i need to check the games, but i think everyone should express himself about the kind of game we would prefer to play for the team selection.
Personaly, i could play everything except the 2 kind of games i told :-)
So if this is public, then my words are different :
My propositions for the moment are :
- Turbo Out Run (racing game)
- Avalanche (classic and played with mouse)
- Gorf (classic shooter but i don't think if it's the better choice)
- Change Air Blade (recent shooter from 1999, not present in RU but which is really particular)

Ye gods. There is inevitably going to be a host of these dreary, interchangeable, bullet hell games (I'm holding back on the abuse because this is public) picked by the other teams... do we really want one as well?

I'm not in the RU IGBY team so this is not relevant

If they aren't steering wheel games, you have a much better chance of getting them in. A couple of teams have indicated a strong dislike for driving games in MAME tournaments, so they are likely to get vetoed unless they are like Road Fighters or Lethal Crash Race.
Gorf - 1, 3, or 6 bases?
Mustache Boy should be in the competition for sure.

Good choices, Wolf! Blazing Star, Puzzle Bobble, BB2, Driller, and Galaga 88 sound fine to me. Bionic and Arkanoid 2 are good in their own way, but might have some issues.
I believe Arkanoid 2 has at least one or two levels where you can kind of get the ball stuck for a long time hitting gold bricks and enemies without doing anything. I think I had the high score at GGA randomly because I got the ball stuck for a while and racked up a few hundred thousand points.
Bionic Commando has ridiculously random RNG that makes a huge difference (100-10,000 point items). People will play the first level repeatedly hoping for good medals (5k or 10k each) in the RNG, then maybe move on after sacking their lives away. Sadly, it kind of ruins a decent game for tournaments as the biggest difference-maker becomes completing the game for 1M. I have had higher scores on level 3 than almost at the end of the game a few times, which isn't really a good indicator of skill as much as grinding and leeching.
Can't see a problem with steering wheel games, 99% of them are easier with a keyboard/mouse

Heres my 1 pick: Mr Do's Wild Ride
Why?
-We have at least 2 people who are good at it
-Easy controls
-Doesn't end, maxout, nor is there leeching. You can sac lives on a certain level but the better players will always get higher scores
I'm fine with most of these. I'm positive I can get much closer to 500K in Galaga '88, but so can alot of people, I guess. Any Arkanoid suits me fine. Gorf scores are usually reasonably close, except for those insane people who can hit 1,000,000. And if we're going to include a hyper bullet game, I 100% agree on DoDonPachi. As for Mr.Do's Wild Ride - can SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW TO PLAY IT I'm decent at the other 2 - I've had 700K on Mr. Do, nowhere near elite, but decent. I just can't GET Wild Ride. Aside from that, I'm not a huge fan of the fighting genre - just not my thing. I'd throw in Pang or its offshoots, rather than Bubble Bobble. I would say Hyper Sports - harder than Track and Field, but Fly is just about untouchable, and I'm not happy with my button setup right now. So much for a "Quick Reply", sorry.
I ran a search on all the arcade pinball games and Grand Cross is my favorite of those. Since we get only 3 or 4 games, I wouldn't put it forward as one of the nominations, but it could be a decent alternate, since I don't imagine that these guys play a whole lot of pinball.
1. We need a maze game. If you want to play sh***ps or f***ting games, rest assured the other teams will give us a shit ton of them to deal with.
2. I'm good at this (and I'm not good at much). The two Tims on Team RU would definitely be good this. We have other people here who could get good at this. The majority of the players on the other sites will hate this game.
3. There's no leeching, glitching, cheating, maxing techniques (that I know of).
4. It's a simple game to control. No controversy there. Left, right, up, down, fire. As all the best games are
5. It's a low-prestige, underrated, unsexy game. But it's worth the same points as all the other games in the contest. I can't see many people apart from a few of us oddballs over here spending any time on it.
Let's hear from everybody else. Krehztim, if you had to pick one game, what would it be?

Personaly, i confirm my proposition for turbo out run.
This game can be learned during the 5 weeks of the tourney if you play a few games once a day even if at the beginning, it will be hard particularly because of the cop in this game.
