So I have to ask, why do all the characters look five years old when the target audience is like 25-30? Shouldn't the series "grow up" eventually?

I get that it started out aimed at kids but we all know those kids grew up and still love it. Isn't it strange that the main characters and pokemon look so kidsy still?

I think they're taking the "ain't broke, don't fix it" approach here. I think a lot of fans like the colorful, cartoony atmosphere that became more prominent in the games.

@DB, it seems like you'd enjoy Pokemon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness for the GC. Some pretty dark storylines in them, including human slavery and abuse, as well as the abuse and slavery of Pokemon.

@Tails, DN, BM- Surely you can relate. There must be some theme in games that is a deal breaker for you too.
I can usually overlook some cutesy but pokemon is just overloaded with it. I do sincerely appreciate the gameplay though.


@RedLetter- It's not about having a dark or serious tone, it's just the characters. I liked one of the Monster Rancher games on playstation. It had anime characters/cutesy monsters but it wasn't overwhelming. From what I saw though the sequels went the pokemon route.



I'm not trying to pick a fight with you guys about this. After I watched the trailer it just struck me as weird how the series didn't grow up with it's playerbase.

Video games don't do this, I don't see why you'd think it's weird. Besides that, there are still way more kids that are into Pokemon than adults. Your idea that the series should be made more mature is absolutely asinine, and I'm thinking your playing Dudebro's advocate again.

Anyway, I'll buy into this and probably regret it. Every time I take the plunge into the series I get let down, I just want to like it so much. I'm going with X for now, until more details are revealed about any differences.

I like that they're finally going for full 3D, what they've shown looks brilliant.
The starters look good, the character designs are pretty neat. I'm excited. I definitely need to get a 3DS.
I wonder if they have any gameplay changes in store, I thought the 3v3 and rotation battles were great additions, I wonder if they're going to add even more cool stuff.
I hope they go for something kinda different with the story, but it'll still be cool if they don't.

@ARLD- Pokemon Colosseum doesn't look that bad really. It kinda looks like FF7 with pokemans. Gale of Darkness looks like all the rest. Is it one of those deals where the character is technically older but looks like a kid? Anime always tries to be sneaky like that.

@DN- I didn't realize I needed to justify it anymore than I already did, too much cutesy for my tastes. So you don't have anything that turns you off about certain games? I find that really hard to believe.

@Steven- I'm being serious. I know it's not common for series to mature like that but it really stood out when I watched the trailer. I guess it's like Zelda to me where I just can't relate because the characters seems to be getting younger rather than older.

I'm willing to admit that there are things that will turn me off from a game, but I'll at least give something a try before I decide I don't like the feel of it.

Colleseum - Story is of this Crime Signicate developed a machine that's able to catch trainers Pokemon. The main character you play is the best catcher they have and he goes rogue and steals their only working catcher. He takes down them and uses the machine for good by stealing shadow pokemon from that very team (shadow pokemon means they artifically shut the hearts and they are war machines with one attack that is super effective on any pokemon) and then purifying them with the help of Celebi. He is an older person. Also interesting fact, only pokemon game along with XD to feature only 2 on 2 battles. No single battles.

Second one is young, his dad was a researcher and developed my machine years after the first character did it. Blurry on rest as played more of #1 then #2.
