The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
More like Resident Evil: Bore.
I have noticed that while video games are becoming increasingly appealing to the senses, it also seems that they are also becoming more linear and full of mindless action. For example, Resident Evil: 4 was just that - a boring mistake of an action game. It took everything that made the Resident Evil series great (non-linear, adventure-based gameplay) and threw it into the trash. Am I destined to watch all my favorite games turn intop mindless shooter? Is the "Golden Age" of games over only to be replaced by beautiful-but-empty games designed to cater to gamers who demand nothing more than zombies wielding rocket launchers?
Any opinions?

Re: The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
It seems that we continue to have this conversation on multiple threads. I still think that the companies are going more for the "ooh and aah" factor than the actual storyline/gameplay aspect of games. Don't get me wrong, what they're doing in games now compared to a decade ago is amazing, but give me a storyline in an RPG or adventure game, please!

Re: The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
The official "Golden Age of Gaming" ended in the mid 80s. The second generation of gaming is considered the golden age. We are on the seventh now. This website is dedicated to the third and fourth generations which are the ones I grew up with.

Re: The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
honestly, i think of the golden age as NES and those because i grew up with them, simular to what kong said. i personally liked that Megaman ZX Advent had an unlockable game where you play as 'Model a' aka Model Antique and it looks like the 8-bit megaman with wall climbing and sliding powers.

Re: The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
Dude, are you serious?
Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games ever made.
Of course the golden age of gaming is over, but that doesn't mean quality games aren't still being made. The golden age of music was over before I was even born, but I still buy a ton of great albums, some of which are as good as anything that I have ever heard.
So to me, it really is a none-factor. Who cares?

its 20 year actually.
and theres a minigame in the DS game called Megaman ZX Advent where you control a Model a that looks like 8 bit megaman, to show its roots.

Re: The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
I wouldn't consider this a spam/junk thread.
I voted "Worse" because I honestly believe game quality is declining nowdays. That could be because I'm an old man. SO you know, "GET OFF MY LAWN!".
Also, I disagree with what you said about the beginnings of Resident Evil. That first game was Linear in my opinion. You could explore the mansion but stuff was always in the same places, no real choices besides how to shoot those zombies. Not to mention the horribly awkward controls and camera angles. But, that one hallway you enter where the zombie dogs jump in the window stayed with me. Scared me.
Just wait for the Wii to come out with some more games. I have a feeling the system is gonna revitalize the gaming industry. At least I hope so.

Re: The Golden Age of Gaming, is it Over?
I remember back in the day, when the snes came out, and almost anyone would say, man, check out these graphics. They are so good. It was the same way with other systems. The 64...totally blew my mind playing Mario. There will always be something new and better on the horizon. The wii, ps3, 360, will all eventually fizzle and fade away.
