Drug testing
I'm talking specifically about testing for weed(THC) by employers but feel free to discuss other variations if you want.
Urine tests are the most commonly used. Weed can be detected from 2 days, for really light use, all the way up to over a month, heavy use. Other drugs that are actually dangerous and cause impairment like Coke, LSD, Heroin and Meth last only a few days.
As some of you may know I like smoking weed. I quit a few days before christmas in order to pass a piss test to get a new job. I just took a home test and failed. Yeah that's right, it's been close to two months and I still failed without smoking it or even being around it at all. So now I can either wait for an unknown amount of time, spend another 15 bucks on a test(already bought three) or I can risk it and possibly fail and not get a job. I've checked the policies of several places I'd like to work and they all piss test.
Can anyone tell me how this is fair? I held my last job for over ten years and the only issues I had in that time where a few notes on my record for being late by a few minutes on occasion. I was well liked and when I quit people tried to convince me to stay on. According to drug testing policy I'm a risk because I smoke some weed at home and play video games in my free time.
In closing I'd just like to say, fuck you to people that think weed is worthy of being illegal and worth ruining someones life over. If you're gonna post and tell me to grow out of it fuck off. Even if I did stop smoking for good right now I still would fail a drug test two months after stopping.

Re: Drug testing
I used to take goldenseal to detox myself when I would smoke. It makes you stink like shit when you sweat though. I've never really had a job that requires a drug test. Even at my current job at a university. I do know from friends that drinking lots of water and even pickle juice helps. Detox pills are good too like the one I mentioned. Drug tests are bullshit as far as I'm concerned. It's a waste of money for everyone.

Re: Drug testing
It isn't fair, I might not like Weed but I do believe people should have the right to smoke weed, it isn't a serious
drug at all. It lasts so long because the chemicals get dissolved into your fat tissue, unlike other drugs.
All I can say is it's better to keep checking then jump the gun and lose a job opportunity.

It is a serious drug. I used to have rituals to smoke out with the homies down in the hood.

Re: Drug testing
@Joz- None of those methods are proven to work. The only thing that matters is usage and metabolism.
I know you're probably joking but it's not a serious drug.
@SJB- If I keep waiting that means more time without a paycheck. In the meantime a meth head can stop for a week and go get a job. Drunks can go get a job without even worrying about it. It's bullshit.

But if you do get tested positive, you'll be in the same situation.
You'd be wasting a job opportunity, it's best to be patient.

Piss testing doesnt really happen here in Canada as far as I know, so I can't really relate. Have you tried those detox drinks?

Re: Drug testing
@SJB- There's a 50/50 chance that places only say they'll drug test but in practice they don't. My last employer was that way up until the last year or so.
@Steven- Like I said to Joz those aren't proven to do anything. Also diluting the urine can cause you to fail because it looks too clear and they'll rescreen you.

Re: Drug testing
Don't say it doesn't actualy cause impairment. I've done all those other drugs you mentioned and weed fucks you up just as much when your high as anything else accept hallucinogens. I'm sick as fuck of the all mighty noble pot heads acting like they're doing something so much better cause they're smoking a plant. you're still getting high just cause you picked a different drug then someone else does'nt make a difference your getting fucked up for the same reasons cause you like to get fucked up.

Oh yeah nut as for your question I don't think drug testing is right I hate that people can tell me what to do outside of work it's my life and I don't want anyone telling me how to spend my few years I have but I have a government regulated job so the drug testing is excessive.
Last year I posted on here cause I had to take a drug test 2 weeks after I smoked weed and I passed that than this summer I had to take a random drug test 3 days after I did coke and ecstacy at the same time and I passed that as well so I got a pretty lucky track record but I don't think I ever took a piss test and wasn't worried ussually for thc but I never failed one

I like banging strange chicks but I don't because I'm married. I don't think the current tax laws are fair yet I still abide by them.
It's fair because you already knew that most jobs do at least claim they piss test yet you still smokey the dopey. You are a risk because studies show that people who abuse marijuana are generally bad employees. Whether it affects you specifically this way or not is moot in the eyes of an employer, and insurance agency, and the law.
I agree that the current laws are not fair.
I know the "fuck off" was meant for me but I'm going to say it anyways. Maybe it's time to grow the fuck up and put your ability to financially provide for you and your wife as a higher priority in your life than being able to smoke a little pot? On a permanent basis of course.
I know you're feeling like you've somehow been wronged and unjustly serviced and it will be easier to lash out at me and any that agree. So feel free to go ahead and get all aggro-defensive and melodramatic at this post instead of actually making a productive change in your life. I'll certainly find it amusing.

I would agree with Ten if we were talking about anything other than weed, but c'mon it's 100 percent harmless, and in no way would it effect someones ability to proform their job.

Quote:
What are some of the immediate effects of smoking marijuana?
Some immediate physical effects of marijuana include a faster heartbeat and pulse rate, bloodshot eyes, and a dry mouth and throat. No scientific evidence indicates that marijuana improves hearing, eyesight, and skin sensitivity. Studies of marijuana's mental effects show that the drug can impair or reduce short-term memory, alter sense of time, and reduce ability to do things which require concentration, swift reactions, and coordination, such as driving a car or operating machinery.
|
Quote:
How does marijuana affect driving ability?
Driving experiments show that marijuana affects a wide range of skills needed for safe driving -- thinking and reflexes are slowed, making it hard for drivers to respond to sudden, unexpected events. Also, a driver's ability to "track" (stay in lane) through curves, to brake quickly, and to maintain speed and the proper distance between cars is affected. Research shows that these skills are impaired for at least 4-6 hours after smoking a single marijuana cigarette, long after the "high" is gone. If a person drinks alcohol, along with using marijuana, the risk of an accident greatly increases. Marijuana presents a definite danger on the road.
|
Quote:
How does marijuana affect the heart?
Marijuana use increases the heart rate as much as 50 percent, depending on the amount of THC. It can cause chest pain in people who have a poor blood supply to the heart - and it produces these effects more rapidly than tobacco smoke does.
How does marijuana affect the lungs?
Scientists believe that marijuana can be especially harmful to the lungs because users often inhale the unfiltered smoke deeply and hold it in their lungs as long as possible. Therefore, the smoke is in contact with lung tissues for long periods of time, which irritates the lungs and damages the way they work. Marijuana smoke contains some of the same ingredients in tobacco smoke that can cause emphysema and cancer. In addition, many marijuana users also smoke cigarettes; the combined effects of smoking these two substances creates an increased health risk.
Can marijuana cause cancer?
Marijuana smoke has been found to contain more cancer-causing agents than is found in tobacco smoke. Examination of human lung tissue that had been exposed to marijuana smoke over a long period of time in a laboratory showed cellular changes called metaplasia that are considered precancerous. In laboratory test, the tars from marijuana smoke have produced tumors when applied to animal skin. These studies suggest that it is likely that marijuana may cause cancer if used for a number of years.

Re: Drug testing
Point is that it is such a minor thing that any old negative personality traits are more impactful on job performance. I'd rather have a guy who was high as a kite who did good work than a straight edge lazy bum.
I that being said, I would'nt want my bus driver to be stoned out of his mind, but there are very few jobs where peoples lives are in the hands of a single person.

Re: Drug testing
@WG- Weed is most certainly not as impairing as the other drugs I listed. It's on par with getting drunk, if that. I'm not trying to take some high ground, I like to get high too.
@Tenser- Thanks for being such an understanding friend. Nice to see that you think getting high a couple hours a night is detrimental to my wife and our life together. For the record the only thing stressing me out these last two months is the drug test thing, not the lack of weed. I quit cold turkey and I haven't been bugging about it or even tempted to break down and do it again. That's one hell of an addiction huh?
Should I post all the bad stuff about booze too or is that a pointless effort? Fact is alcohol is worse and causes more harm but it has a better PR campaign.
I'm a responsible pot head. I don't smoke until the day is over. The people who smoke for work or other stuff like that would be just as irresponsible if they got drunk, it's a personality trait not the weed.
@Tails- Yeah I got tired of the new boss treating everyone like shit so I quit. I did it the right way and gave my notice and I figured I'd take some time off. Didn't realize I was gonna be penalized so long because piss tests are so unfair. I should become a crack head so I can hide it better.

Weed impares me more than almost any other drug it gets me to the point I cant think after a oney. and I think alchohol is one of the hardest drugs there is I've never got as fucked up on aything as I have on booze so that's a bad comparison I think.

Re: Drug testing
I agree booze is worse but for the sake of this argument I didn't wanna get into it. Some people can't handle certain drugs. Like some people get drunk easy, some people get high easy. I took acid a couple times and it fucked me up really bad. Everyone else seemed to handle it pretty well. We all have different tolerances.

Re: Drug testing
Hey everyones different I just hate people telling me that weeds ok and nothing else is cause I smoked weed daily for a decade and I was pretty much an invalid but you give me some meth and I can just chill and do my thing I'm awake but I'm with it. If I take some opiates (Heroine,Morphine,Oxy. etc.) I'll get sleepy but I probably have better motor skills than I would on weed. If I get drunk I might sway back and forth but I don't feel like I'm completely retarded.

Re: Drug testing
Well I don't wanna piss you off WG but I strongly disagree with the idea of weed being worse or equal to meth, heroin, morphine or oxy. I've seen people personally on those and they are scary fucked up. Maybe you don't notice it when you're on it because you're used to it.
Also when was the last time you saw a show about weed interventions? I've seen ones for those other drugs and those people are so fucked up after years of abuse. They don't look like the same person and when they clean up it's a ridiculously dramatic change.

Re: Drug testing
I'm not saying it's equal on a health risk level. All I'm saying is that it gets me just as fucked up even if a different kind of fucked up. I wouldn't say I'm real used to the drugs I do. I only do drugs about once a month. I have no tollerance for anything but booze.

In fact I prefer hard drugs cause I can just chill and feel good. When I smoke weed I'm to busy freaking out to enjoy myself.

This isn't sarcasm. You're quite welcome. Sometimes it takes a real friend to give you a kick in the ass now and then.
Thanks for missing my entire post though.
-I never said quitting weed was stressing you out.
-I never said you couldn't quit.
-I never said you were addicted.
I never said booze isn't bad. Its never prevented me from employment though.
The point is, the current law is what it is. Perhaps you should just quit all together until those laws change?
Obviously getting high a couple hours a night has become detrimental to you and yours or this topic wouldn't be here. I didn't need to figure that out on my own, you told me yourself straight up.

Re: Drug testing
I didn't miss your entire post I just didn't care to reply to most of it because I think it sucked. My points about not being addicted are to show that despite smoking for 15 years or so I was able to stop when I wanted to. If Weed is so bad then how come that was possible? I tried to quit smoking and within a day I was bugging. Drunks try to quit drinking and they get actual life threatening medical issues.
Booze should prevent people from getting jobs. I've worked with plenty of drunks and they're terrible employees who end up getting fired because it effects their job. I've worked with lots of potheads who I didn't even know where potheads until they told me. The only potheads I've seen where it effects their jobs are kids who would also be effected by booze.
The law is unfair so I should just accept it and stop doing what I'm doing? How nice.
It's only detrimental because the policies and laws about it are bullshit. Anyone who thinks weed is dangerous is uninformed and confused.
I don't need anymore "friendly" kicks in the ass. If you're gonna just keep on talking shit about my personal life then don't bother replying.
