Figured I'd comment that I'm playing through this game. I have played it before, but not much. I rented it back when it was new for maybe 2 days and got a dozen hours in. I bought the game used a few years ago, played maybe 7 hours before it corrupted, then it did the same thing again next run-through after maybe 4 hours... turns out the battery was dead lol.
Anyways, playing through on an emulator with a bit of a custom run. I didn't feel like playing with the same pokemon as emerald usually offers in my party other than a starter. So I kind of hacked in some of my favourite pokemon and a few items to go with. don't judge, I'm enjoying it, and it's not really game-breaking pokemon. My party is as follows:
Jolteon (started as Eevee)
Vaporeon (started as Eevee)
Umbreon (couldn't seem to hack in a 3rd Eevee, so started as this)
Charmander
Treecko
Swablu
As you can no doubt tell, I hacked in, a level 3 charmander, and 3 level 3 Eevee's (well one was a level 3 Umbreon. Was going to leave it up to chance whether it became an Umbreon, or an Espeon, but oh well) into my party at the start of the game along with a thunderstone and a water stone to use later (like when they're level 15). Swablu was just kind of reccomended as a flying pokemon, and Treecko is not the emerald starter I normally choose.
Basically just wanted a change of pace after having so much bad luck with emerald I thought using my favourites would be more fun, and it is. Call it cheating if you want, I don't care, not like I can trade on emulator, and Eevee and Charmander aren't offered in Emerald unless it's through trade normally.
Anyways, I'm at an average of Level 16 with all my pokemon at the moment on this beach island place (think it was Vendernurf town or something), it has a battle challenge building on it, and a bunch of stands selling different stuff. Any tips you can provide for whats coming up would be great.
You can also use this thread to discuss Emerald.
Questions and comments I have:
Should I be holding off on evolving Treecko, Swablu, and Charmander? If so, what level should I hold off to?
Is my current party a good balance of the types of pokemon, or am I occasionally going to have to swap out some for parts of the game? I'm open to swapping out Swablu if I need.
Also, general comment. I heard Emerald wasn't all that popular, really not sure why. It seems perfectly fine to me. Better than Red/Blue, but maybe I just am sick of those two after playing them dozens of times when I was younger.
Discuss.
