Sonic Generations... Actually looks promising

I'm just figuring this out now, but I'm just used to dismissing sonic games lately due to major fail. Looking at interviews and gameplay though... I'm impressed... Big time!

Check out this gameplay:

So far, from what I gather:

-Play in 2d or 3d environments
-2d sonic controls like the sonic classics
-2d sonic looks like sonic from sonic CD
-3d sonic controls like the stages people liked from Sonic Colors and Sonic Unleashed
-2d and 3d stages will differ for the most part for each stage
-level themes and designs brought back from all the popular sonic games
-3ds levels will differ from 360/ps3 levels

Coming November 1st

I'm impressed... Very, very impressed.

Edit: I should also mention that in an interview, a designer said that all those random extra characters and gimmicks everyone hates have been trapped in some portal, and so it's just sonic going to rescue them kind of like old times. So now stupid crocodile or bat-like things...

I had to laugh when it switched to new style at 1:48. Sonic flying through tubes and stuff, how predictable. It was just like playing Sonic Adventure 2 again.

But then it did the actual sled stage from SA2......
So basically they're just taking old levels and making them polygonal 3D?

And the new 3D worlds converted to 2D stages? The stage environment of the city just didn't mesh well with me. And good grief that music.

I have to say it's not looking good for me.

Love the Team Hooligan 'wanted' signs in City escape. Also the Mighty and Ray sign.

Btw I don't think PS3/360 differ, you might be thinking of 3DS to the consoles which will be the handhelds

looking at all the levels in detail Seahawk. They are redesigns with the same backgrounds and textures. So the layouts of the levels are different. The SA2 stage looks like a duplicate, but everything else is new pathways and whatnot.

@ Tails. They said the 360 and ps3 ones will be the same, but the 3ds will be different in most levels.

I think the point he was trying to make is that they have no new ideas. New paths to go through the same tired old levels is not really new.

At first I was confused because it sounded like the same music from the old games(there's that no new ideas thing again) but then that other "music" kicked in. People actually like that?

Btw Sonic games always have such lame enemies but this one really seems to take it to a new level. The ones I saw seemed like they didn't really care about Sonic but maybe their boss was watching so they made a minimal amount of effort so they don't get fired.

Sonic Generations looks average to me, but that said, it's a huge
improvement from the horrible Sonic games SEGA has churned out.

Don't really care, I'm getting it. Them bringing back awesome level themes like chemical plant is enough for me as long as it controls well, and is fun. Of course I'll wait for reviews.

As for the song in the city chase thing... Yeah, I don't see how people like that either. Almost as bad as sonic R.

City Escape I can understand, its just not my type, but how does one like sonic R music? Sonic R itself is okay, but the music just does not fit at all. I'm sorry, that music should not be in a sonic game...

Don't get me wrong, I was actually quite enjoying myself at the classic Chemical Plant section, enough to break out of my usual Sonic pessimism. If the whole game were kept like that I might actually have been able to think about buying it. But then it switched to the new style and I was back in my groove.

Dudebro is right, new camera angles do not fix failed stage themes and old areas that have been overdone to death already. The sled stage was the exact same theme, from the downhill first sled to the truck chase. If I wanted the old areas I'd rather just boot up Sonic 2 and actually enjoy going through them.
