This news about From Dust is very unsettling. Not the ridiculous internet connection thing, although that's bad too. The news that the PC version is badly ported and buggy. I haven't been able to try it yet but I think I'll just get a refund and buy it on Xbox. Supposedly it's ported like a 360 game anyways. At least this way I'll get back my 15 bucks and I can spend my free points on it. Wonder if they'll let me keep the free hat in TF2?

**Kugyince** · 08-20-2011, 05:50 PM

Very cool move by Notch. Its nice to see developers who aren't consumed by the business side of the industry.

**Dudebro** · 08-20-2011, 06:36 PM

I'm confused, what is that about?

Hey, Bethesda! Let's settle this! : The Word of Notch

Basically they are in a situation regarding the right to use the word "scrolls" in their game title. Notch challenged them to a fps deathmatch to settle it. Obviously Notch has nothing to loose since his game isn't out yet, but whatever it's fun.

I'm just wondering how in the heck something like the word scrolls can have any sort of trademark attached to it.

**Dudebro** · 08-20-2011, 06:46 PM

I read the linked article but it was short and didn't really explain the situation. Which game is Notch making? What trademark is Bethesda trying to protect, Elder Scrolls?

Here's a better article about it, by Notch himself.
Bethesda are suing us, here's the full story! : The Word of Notch

**Dudebro** · 08-20-2011, 08:15 PM

Seems pretty stupid. Like the article says "Scrolls" is not how anyone identifies the games. In fact I've only ever seen people refer to them as ES, TES or by their version name, like Oblivion. Without the "elder" part it's not the same. I can't imagine why they'd think they have a case.

**Kong** · 08-20-2011, 11:51 PM

I think scrolls is too generic to successfully trademark.

Interesting thread but I think a summery of the interesting links will help draw attention. I personally will only read the comments and not click through to every article.

I've always only called them by their version name, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, ect.
Everyone knows what you are talking about, why bother with the whole title?

Do you mean that you will just read the R.U. comments and go from there? The links have sufficient information in them for someone to decide weither or not they are interested.

I dint click all of them, just the ones who's title caught my eye.

And I might ad that "this week in gaming" is literal, its all articles from the last week.

**Dudebro** · 08-21-2011, 12:30 AM

@DM- Well you need to refer to them as TES or ES when you're talking about more than one. But no one is calling the series scrolls or the scrolls.

@Kong- The first one is notable, Japan is phasing out sales of 360s and games. It's not a huge shocker at all but it's not something MS wants. But when you figure this is one of the most popular 360 games over there

It might be for the best.

**Slime Slayer** · 08-21-2011, 01:02 AM

Tails would go absolutly bananas for that game.

**Demon-Mask** · 08-21-2011, 01:04 AM

Isn't it some kind of rhythm game?

**Slime Slayer** · 08-21-2011, 01:15 AM

Looks like your standard Kinect dance game.

**Demon-Mask** · 08-21-2011, 01:22 AM

Ah, there are other versions of it, I believe those would have to be rhythm games.

**Dudebro** · 08-21-2011, 02:43 AM

From it's description it's a rhythm and life sim. You play a rising pop star and do dating sim like interactions between music timing mini games.

**Slime Slayer** · 08-21-2011, 02:43 AM

Ninja'd, rendering the point slain.

"Thou art dead"
or FF's "slain"
Or that Friday the 13th one somthing like "you and your friends are dead"

**Dudebro** · 08-21-2011, 02:45 AM

Says who? The point of the dance mini game is timing and rhythm. It's not just about dancing, go watch a gameplay video if you don't believe me.

**Tails** · 08-21-2011, 02:46 AM

Phasing out 360? Nice.

**Dudebro** · 08-21-2011, 02:48 AM

Don't starting drooling just yet, this is only in Japan where it was never very popular. I bet it's still doing ok in the UK and other regions.

I'm surprised no one else commented on it. First link and all.

I mean the RU comments. I personally want a summery, not an article or title.

But I'm not trying to speak for everyone or as the admin, I know I am very far from the target audience for this. My interest in modern gaming doesn't go much further than a passive curiosity that stems mostly from an interest in making predictions about tech and then seeing how close I was.

**Slime Slayer** · 08-21-2011, 03:17 AM

Well arn't you at least interested in the direction your hobby is going?
For me this kinda stuff helps me track the state of gaming, it's nice to have your finger on the pulse.

**Dudebro** · 08-21-2011, 03:20 AM

@Tails- I think it's because it's not really a surprise to anyone.

@steven- He's just saying he's not gonna skim through a list of links to find something interesting. I think that's actually more common than you guys think. If you don't catch people with something interesting they'll just pass over it all.
