Some things really are lost in the translation

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSS-Wv5A5uw"]YouTube - Japanese TMNT[/ame]
Wow. Maybe this is olde news but that's the first time I've seen that bizarre version of TMNT.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9oI7Fd3Uec&feature=related"]YouTube - Turkish Superman[/ame]
I was loling throughout. I feel bad if they tried hard but that is just ridiculous.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5Pjo0WjBcs]YouTube - Indian Superman[/ame]
Ah India, they make some of the best movies I've ever seen. This isn't even the funniest Indian Superman I've seen. This one had a longer video though.

You're not kidding DB. When I saw Next Mutation come on TMNT it looked like the anime - which.. made me uneasy.

Oh god I Lol'd so hard when they they went henshin. But really Japan. I am dissappoint. You give little girls like 5 minute long transformation sequences but our beloved ninja turtles get a blink. :<

Seeing this makes no sense, I thought at first CT got the crappy anime but it turned out to be the animated Live action TMNT show and not this.

Give me original soundtracks with subtitles every time.
I find they're the least corrupted, and retain the original direction and acting - the very spirit of the production.

The saint mutations was a sort of spin off that went no where. I think there was only like eight episodes or something like that. Very disappointing, but you can find the episodes on youtube.
Here are some funny videos I found.

DB, I'm sure you'll remember this one

Re: Some things really are lost in the translation

I assume they had the 3 minute limit to make some sense with the short time format of an animated TV show. It makes more sense then something like the power rangers where they always end up changing into the large form, why not just start at max power and avoid all the pointless crap before it?

It would be an awfully short and boring show {speaking of almost any show} if they started out at 'max power' as you say.
What if Usagi went around as Sailor Moon all the time?
What if Clark Kent sat around the Daily Bugle in his red and blues?
What if Thing stayed in that form all the time?

This makes for boring storylines, in my opinion.
The only reason they go from zero to hero in every episode {in a general sense} is to provide the buildup, in answer to the given antagonistic entity's actions.
I think it's meant to symbolize the inner Hero in all of us; when we've finally had 'all we can stands, and can't stands no more'

Re: Some things really are lost in the translation

No I totally understand that JG I'm just saying that the japanese TMNT people probably decided to buck the usual trend of explaining why they only transform at the end of an episode by giving them a limited window of time to do it. I said that about the power rangers because they can always just change but they only decide to when things escalate to mecha battle size, which it always does at the end.

Re: Some things really are lost in the translation

I guess the downside of transformations is when they're always the same throughout the entire series.
For example, in the TV Hulk series they always seemed to use the same transformation footage, and it got boring after a while.
I remember as a kid thinking how I'd like to see him transform faster and get right down to the butt whooping part.

Re: Some things really are lost in the translation

Well at least Hulks transformation makes sense because of his mutation, he can only change when he gets angry. Most shows like Power Rangers have no excuse besides building tension or following a certain formula.

The Hulk transforming when he is angry is just a myth, the Hulk only transforms when the armed criminals leave him unsupervised to die in a trap.

Shame on your stupid.

Re: Some things really are lost in the translation

My mistake I was talking about the real hulk from the comics not the campy piece of crap they put on TV. For future reference when I'm talking about Batman it's not the Adam West version.

OOOF! - Right in the childhood memories, that smarts!

Ok maybe it was campy, but I think the ultimate in campiness {besides the Evil Dead trilogy} was that episode of The Six Million Dollar Man where they went into Bigfoot's cave.

If they did that, the formula of every single episode of Power Rangers would be corrupted:
Normal day at school for the rangers, minor personal problems arise
Cut to villains talking about plan
Villains try some stupid plan
Power Rangers come to the rescue
They get attacked, turns out they underestimated the villain
Use teamwork and cheap shots to take down villain
Villain turns to the size of a building
Power Rangers get into vehicles and combine into massive robot
Underestimate villain's power again, one building is destroyed by giant robot's being knocked back
Fight cheaply and defeat villain
Back to school, resolve minor personal conflict at school.

Power Rangers was interesting to me as a kid, and that movie is still alright to me, but once I figured out the formula I could no longer enjoy the show worth a damn.

Adam West as Batman was the greatest, the television series and movie were both very humorous takes on the comics, I especially love those sound effects that appear on screen.

What's even better is that they intended to be campy and funny. Shows like Power Rangers did not.
