RetroUprising Awards 2010 Nominations
The year 2010 is almost over, and that means it's almost time for the annual RU awards.
This thread is where you can NOMINATE (NOT VOTE) users to received the following awards. Remember that nominations must be based on events for 2010 ONLY. Of course, the year isn't over yet, so if something happens between now and January 1, 2011 that you feel is worthy of a nomination, feel free to add it.
Best Gamer - This is, in your opinion, the best overall game player for the year, whether he/she consistently placed high scores, or beat hard games,
this player was a force to be reckoned with in the arcade in 2010.
Best Mod - This is the moderator who you think was the most helpful, who you could count on to help you solve your problems the most.
Trophy Thief - This is the player who consistently steals trophies from you and everyone else, who you expect to find the PM from saying "Your score was beaten by XXX".
Trophy Defender - Opposite of a trophy thief, this is a player who's score you keep on beating, only to have him/her come back and post a higher score constantly.
Best Forum Participant - This is the user who you think made the forums
the most entertaining and lively.
Best Newcomer: The new member (must have registered in 2010) who you think made the biggest positive impact to the RU forums or the arcade.
Retro Uprising All Star - To the member whose contributions in the arcade, forums, and chat room have made RU a better place. This person is the Sean Connery of RU, they set the gold standard in skills, wit, sportsmanship, and intellect.
Most Impressive Mastery - This is the player who beat that game that you thought couldn't be beat, but then someone did it anyways, sending your jaw dropping to the floor. Feel free to nominate one of your masters even if you do not think you will win.
Most Impressive Score - This is the high score that you think is the most impressive overall for the year, a score that in your opinion will stand for a very long time. Feel free to nominate one of your scores even if you do not think you will win.
Worth repeating: Remember that nominations must be based on events for 2010 ONLY.
The following two awards are automatic and will be determined when January 1 rolls around.
Highest Rated Post (automatic)
Biggest Donor (automatic)
On January 1, 2011 this thread will be closed, and then we'll get to actual voting for each award.
Who will come out on top of this year's RetroUprising awards? We'll see.
Happy nominating and good luck to all candidates!
-=EDIT=-
Retro Uprising All Star should not take into account mod duties. Mods are eligible but for this category just judge them on their site participation as a normal user.
You can nominate yourself for any award. Especially for Most Impressive Mastery and Most Impressive Score because there are probably several great scores that will be overlooked unless you post your own.
Because Tenser and Kong are the admins they are not eligible for these categories.

Re: RetroUprising Awards 2010 Nominations
Best Gamer - Agnostic79, Josephjo, Seahawk, and Gamenguru.
- All great gamers who always bring it and have brought it whether it's for trophies, for masteries, in competitions, etc.
Best Mod - Tails
- Tails always tries to help wherever he can.
Trophy Thief - Dojah
- Sadly Dojah is not on much anymore, and it's sometimes easy to forget what happened in the earlier parts of the year, but since this is about the whole year, I think Dojah definitely takes the award without question.
Trophy Defender - Seahawk and Dojah
Best Forum Participant - Dudebro, JoeGrotowski, Jozman, and Stevencassidy13
Best Newcomer: Elrod.
- Elrod has done some great things since his time here, and I know there will be more great things in store for the future.
Retro Uprising All Star - Dudebro, Tenser, Tails, Seahawk, and Gamenguru
- When I think of Retrouprising this year, I think about these guys.
Most Impressive Mastery - Pit Fighter (Agnostic79) & Impossible Mission (Josephjo)
- Tough games.
Most Impressive Score - Seahawk's Speed Coin
- Great score there Hawk.

Re: RetroUprising Awards 2010 Nominations
Best Gamer - Winnebagel, Agnostic79, Seahawk, and Josephjo
- These guys are the best of the best, and all have serious skills.
Best Mod - Tails
Trophy Thief - Seahawk
- I know Seahawk was a serious contender for this award last year, and he has taken top spots in a lot of games throughout this year as well.
Trophy Defender - Dojah, Seahawk and Winnebagel
Best Forum Participant - Dudebro, Winnebagel, Jozman and JoeGrotowski
Best Newcomer: Elrod
- Over the last several months Elrod has really demonstrated that he has some pretty impressive gaming skills, but he also takes an active roll in the forums and is a nice guy as well.
Retro Uprising All Star - Dudebro, Tenser, Winnebagel and Seahawk
- Every one of these guys puts a lot of time and effort into the site, and RU would not be the same without them.
Most Impressive Mastery - Winnebagel's Hugely Epic win in 1945k III during the Team Marathon II contest. A game which no other player on four teams could beat then, and no one has beaten since.
Team Marathon II - Page 24 - Retro Uprising
Most Impressive Score - Speed Coin (Seahawk)

It's mainly for fun but the winners do get badges. It's a way of showing our appreciation for each other and to give people incentive to be an active member.

Re: RetroUprising Awards 2010 Nominations
Best Gamer: wb,sh,ea,sc13
Best Mod: sc13 obviously, tails, sabby, db, sh, jozz... probably sabby though.
Trophy Thief: runhippierun, he took 2 from me so hes my vote, feel free to veto his nomination if you think he is not worthy, and sc13
Trophy Defender: n/a what I wants, I takes so... sc13
Best Forum Participant: jim, db, sjb, ten, sc13
Best Newcomer: elrod, enemyace, and sc13
RU ALL STAR: sc13
Most Impressive Mastery: enemyace for cisco heat, sc 13 for whatever I got credited for, I never submitted
Most Impressive Score: SH's 1943, SH's flicky, jake whatshisnuts's bubble bobble, sc13's 1943k 3
(all votes subject to change)
So looking back, I don't like the categories. There should be more that cater to the less than obvious nominations. I'm just thinking about members that I value juat as much and sometimes more so. Maybe next year we could include user specific categories, for example Wolfman for his active chat or whatever.

Re: RetroUprising Awards 2010 Nominations
Best Gamer - Winnebagel - I haven't been here very long but from my experience he is number 1 on the site for a very good reason.
Best Mod - Stevencassidy13
Trophy Thief - Josephjo - Great rivalry there. Have had a lot of fun defending from him and pushing myself further.
Trophy Defender - Winnebagel. He always seems to come back when I do take trophies from him.
Best Forum Participant - There are so many I don't know who to pick.
Best Newcomer: ChrisP and EnemyAce. Both great guys. ChrisP we need to find a way to get you a new PC so you won't ever have to hear your scores submissions weren't counted for low FPS.
Retro Uprising All Star - Winnebagel and Dojah. Both these gentlemen have been very welcoming to me since I got here. Both real Class Acts all the way. It is refreshing to see gamers who are on the top of the pile and don't act like Jerks about it.
Most Impressive Mastery - Winnebagel 1945k III. I wasn't here when this happened but having a quick look at the game and it starts out hard and doesn't let up. It's easy to see why others picked this Mastery.
Most Impressive Score - Seahawk - Speed Coin. Having been involved in the round this game was played in and having played this game a lot in a short period of time, this score by Seahawk blew me away. This game messes with your sanity and Seahawk was on the ropes going into that round and he more than rose to the occasion where others might have been taken out.

Btw guys this topic is for nominations not voting remember? There's really no need to repeat names since you can only be nominated once.
On a related note I'd like to denominate myself for Trophy Defender. Any old scores I have are likely only still mine due to lack of interest not tenacity on my part. Also, my oldest score was beaten recently and I didn't even bother playing the game again and I deleted the PM. Sorry to be a downer cam, thanks for the thought though.
