Question: i have an ethernet cord for my PS3, is there any way to make it work on the Wii through the use of an adaptor?

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
I know Nintendo specifically made something to adapt cables in the case a person doesn't have Wi-Fi... I can't remember what it was called, though. I had one before I got Wi-Fi, and my dad bought it at Best Buy.
Can't help you more than that, unfortunately.

You can find adapters, both first and third party, at Gamestop and the like. You plug in the ethernet cable in one end, and you plug the other end into the Wii USB port in the back.

Do they sell it at Wal-Mart?

It's Wal-Mart. Probably. Look for something called the Wii LAN Adapter.
I'm pretty sure it's LAN, I know the second word is a set of three capitalized letters.

This surprised me a bit... wasn't Meta Knight banned from tournaments? Does this show which character you're going for?

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
Imo if you ban any characters then you're not playing the game as intended. Banning certain stages I can understand but if people can't deal with a character then they need to step up their game and stop crying, imo.
The only time I think it's ok to ban a character is if the character is a boss or special somehow(obvious advantages).
I might be down to play this but I haven't play Brawl in over a year.

Yes, he's been banned from the big league playing, but I don't think we have any super-mega-ultra-incredibly skilled players here. Meta Knight is only good if: You spam his B-move, or if you've got incredible timing. Of course, B-spamming isn't allowed... I should mention that.
And no, I'm terrible with Meta Knight.
EDIT: Except for the fact I can't edit the first post.

Yeah, the developers put all this work in to trying to make a balanced roster, they create character models and animations, plan out attacks, figure out weight, speed, strength and movelists, just so no one can ever play as them.
No, just because you get your ass kicked by a character every time doesn't mean he is cheap, overpowered or anything else, it just means you aren't nearly as good as you thought.

Yeah because most of us have lives and we don't play a simplistic fighting game 24/7. Not trying to be mean but being incredibly skilled at Brawl is nothing to be proud of. It's a good game but it's subpar compared to most other fighting games.

What constitutes spamming and what will happen if this arbitrary line is crossed? I'm getting less interested in this the more I read about it. Can't people just battle for fun anymore?

It doesn't in some games but others have characters that are very obviously cheap and should be banned, like Eddy/Bob/Alisa in Tekken.

It's hard to define spamming a technique, but I'm going to draw the line at using the same move four or more times in a row.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
So I can use it three times in a row but I have to break up the combo after that? Is it cool if I go 3 - 1 - 3, for example?
I just find made up rules amusing.

I know, maybe if this had all been at least thought out and explained BEFORE he made the thread then there wouldn't be such pointless descriptions of how many attacks does it take before it becomes spamming?

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
Well to be fair I'm just a nitpicker.
I'll probably play either way. I'll totally spam if I'm losing though, it's how I roll.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
Isn't that how most people roll? I just assumed that seeing as how my mate who is UBER at the game (or used to be, his Wii won't let him play it anymore!) and he would start hammering all buttons if he was losing near the end!

I suppose some people remain calm but yeah most people spam when in trouble. Sometimes it's a controlled spam with some skill but we all have moments where thought goes out the window.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
So, since Dudebro did point out a major flaw in the rules, I decided to update the rules.
The Rules of Play:
Type of Match: 3-Stock
Time Limit: 8 minutes
Items Allowed: All, though certain/all items can be turned off if both participants agree to it.
Banned Characters: None. All characters are allowed to be used.
Banned Stages:
75M
Flat Zone 2
Hanenbow
Mario Bros.
Mushroomy Kingdom
New Pork City
Rainbow Cruise
Rumble Falls
Hyrule Temple
WarioWare, Inc.
In Case of Suicide Plays:
In the case of move where one player forces another player and themselves to die at the same time, the suicidal player wins the match.
Specific Rules of Play:
- Spamming
- If you use the same move more than four times within a 10 second time period, it is considered spamming, and you shall receive a mark.
- Edgeguarding
- If you are on the stage when your opponent is attempting to recover, you cannot jump off the edge and then grab the ledge to block the opponent's recovery.
- If both players are trying to recover, than a player may stay on the ledge until the invincibility runs out.
- Stalling Techniques
- If you use any techniques with intention of wasting time, you are breaking this rule. Moves that are considered stall tactics, and in what scenarios.
- Stoppage of Brawling
- If neither player fights for more than 15 seconds, then both will be given a mark.
- In order to refresh the 15 second counter for Stoppage of Brawling, three hits must be attempted to hit the opponent.
- If one player runs away from the other, while the other shows active effort to try and Brawl, than only the player running will receive the mark.
Mark System:
If you notice that your opponent is breaking a rule, send me a PM (and a Replay of the match if possible) about it.
For each rule broken, the breaker gets one mark. Get three marks, and they are disqualified from the tournament, and the other player will move on.
NOTE: You can get more than one mark a match.
How to Apply: Post in this thread with your Brawl name and your friend code.

Why? If my opponent is off the edge and trying to recover I feel like it's my job to make that hard for them or prevent them. I'm not down with all the lingo so maybe I'm misunderstanding this.
Btw that's a lot of banned stages, what's wrong with them?

Abusing Sonic's running speed to run away from foes.

Isn't that ALL Sonic is really good for, apart from his insane Final Smash? I've never known of anyone who plays as Sonic to not use his speed to escape attacks!

75M-Too large, therefore allows easy stall tactics. Extremely hard to navigate.
Flat Zone 2-Changes too often, and there are too many annoying obstacles.
Hanenbow-The platforms that change too much.
Mario Bros.-The over-powered enemies when they're thrown.
Mushroomy Kingdom-Moving stage, no grabbable ledges.
New Pork City-Way too large, as well as there being the Ultimate Chimera.
Rainbow Cruise-Moving stage, platforms are too random.
Rumble Falls-Moving stage with random speed up, often killing due to stage layout being fairly bad.
Hyrule Temple-Too large, and a giant cave of life.
WarioWare, Inc-The mini-games and who wins them causes unfair advantages.
I also forgot to put on the banned...
Big Blue-Way to random what with all the moving cars for the main terrain, and platforms in the air.
And if you think my list is huge...

Re: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wi-Fi Tournament
I can understand banned those maps if you're trying to focus on just the two people fighting.
You didn't answer my other question though. Why is it bad to prevent your opponent from recovering? Isn't that the point of fighting games?
