Re: Tokyo Game Show
Wow that's pretty bad. Not only are they making it 3D but they're adding it with lame MS avatars =(.
For everyone who doesn't know how awesome this series is (before this game), check this out.

On the bright side Xbox 360 is getting Radiant Silvergun.

Isn't that a second party game? As in Microsoft hiring Spike to do the game.

How can you tell it's bad by that?
Or is the idea that they are making a new one the bad thing? Or that it's 3D?
I don't understand.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
@Ten I can all but guarantee that it was microsofts hand that guided the game in this direction.
@TMT, Look at the 2 videos and compare them, this new one is not firepro at all. It might turn out to be an excellent game, but it's not firepro.

I don't doubt it and I'm certainly no Xbox fan but I thought it was interesting that you laid all the blame on Microsoft and none on Spike.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
The footage looks like the game is about 10% complete so there is a chance they might revert back, and maybe once mircrosoft sell 3 copies of the game they will blame spike and cut ties with them, and they will go back to the good game for a good system. (Drools at possibility of Firepro on 3ds)

Just like to crap on Xbox at every oppertunity is all. Spike did have a hand in it too. Thinking about it it's a weird situation, why would they even bother to involve spike in this game, it can't be the firepro name they are after.

Unless they plan on preserving everything about it besides the graphics, and I hate to sound like a broken record here, but the 2-d was half the reason the game was awesome.

Yeah but...I dunno. I don't keep up with firepro or anything, I only ever played the one for SNES, but...you can't exactly make that game in this day and age. How would you like a Firepro game to be made in this generation?
And I'm not trying to defend this game. A cartoony art style with avatars means it will probably suck. But you never know.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
Okay, let me chime in.
It doesn't matter if Microsoft had some hand in it, that doesn't mean it will instantly be made of fail.
Yes the cartoony art and avatars does look sort of lame, but hasn't Nintendo won you over with the same thing Steven?
How is a cartoony art style here any different?
The avatars?
No, because games on the Wii do the exact same thing.
Oh no, it's in 3D!
No really? A brand new game released at full price on the Xbox 360 cannot be the same thing as a brand new game released for full price on the SNES over ten years ago. It's natural for a series to jump to 3D, Mario did it, and I don't hear people bitching about that.
Same with Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and many others, and the 2D was a good portion of the fun in those games.
So guess what, don't buy it if it looks stupid to you, but it is a bit too early to judge whether or not this game will have the same feel.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
Why would you suggest you couldnt make a game like that in this day and age, the did it like that on the ps2 and it was awsome. This guys sums it up very well:
"It looks like one of my all-time favorite franchises is being revived and brought to modern consoles. Fire Pro Wrestling, which has seen iterations on the Super Nintendo, PlayStation, Saturn, Dreamcast, TurboGrafx 16, Game Boy Advance, and the PlayStation 2, will bring its timing-based grappling system to the Xbox Live Arcade. Sadly, if early details hold up, it will lose everything that made the series fun, unique, and almost infinitely engrossing.
Fire Pro is known for its 2D graphics, complex grappling system, and extremely deep characer customization. Fire Pro Wrestling, the tentative title of the Xbox Live version, will eschew 2D grapplers for 3D Avatars, removing the ability to create custom wrestlers. In an interview with Kotaku, when asked about Avatars replacing custom characters, Microsoft Game Studios Vice President Phil Spencer stated the following, "Our plan is that it is just Avatars," adding, "I guess there is the possibility for us to do celebrity Avatars if we wanted to."
Half the fun of the Fire Pro series has always been creating new wrestlers and recreating existing ones. Without this huge part of the game, I see no reason to bother with the game. The series has always come with tons of pre-built fighters who were just slightly different from real-world American, Asian, and Mexican fighters, but now, we’ll have no choice but to play as our own Avatars.
There are days where I still spend hours at a time creating new characters for Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for the PS2, and the prospect of doing so on the 360, with HD visuals, had me elated. Now, I couldn’t care less, and neither will any other Fire Pro fan."

Re: Tokyo Game Show
Sometimes things make the jump from 2D to 3D, bitch about it all you guys want but it is going to happen anyway.
A few rabid fanboys of the series complaining is not going to stall or cancel the release of this game, or make it go back into 2D.
Guess what, they may add a character customization feature,
They didn't say the grappling system would change, isn't the actual gameplay more important than the customization?
If the gameplay isn't good, then it won't matter whether or not you can customize your characters.
I didn't say the gameplay itself was dated, just the graphics.
As much as I prefer 2D sprite based graphics over 3D polygonal models, they are trying to market a game to sell as many copies as possible, the majority of the marked nowadays expects 3D, so changing the series to 3D is natural.
From what I can tell the change to 3D will just be superficial anyway, so the graphics may look a bit different while the same gameplay is in place for all we know.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
I dunno Steve-O. I bet the one for PS2 didn't sell very well. I didn't even know it existed.
Of course that doesn't mean it's bad, and maybe a 360 version that's in 2D would be awesome. But you can't really market that anymore and it probably wouldn't sell. Plus, wouldn't it just be a lot like the last one?

Re: Tokyo Game Show
Yeah, I didn't even know the PS2 one existed, so why would releasing a game graphically the same as an SNES game on the Xbox 360 do any better?
Wouldn't people complain about it's lack of utilizing the Xbox 360's far superior graphical capabilities?

And why is my understanding any different than yours?
Is it because I am not a rabid fanboy of the series?
I have the same information you do, I am just on the other side of the fence.
I understand just the same, I just am looking at it from a different point of view. Or is your limited viewpoint the only valid viewpoint in this case?

That's why I thought it was weird they wanted the name, probably trying to get the Japanese market interested in the 360. Like I said in another topic a few days ago, firepro is most likely the most under rated series of all time.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
I know it is underrated, but that doesn't mean it is immune from the need to change it's graphics at times.
I am done arguing, as I know this is a case of immovable force vs. immovable object. Neither of us is going to sway.

Also, go ahead and complain about drastic changes, just know it is an exercise in futility.
Yeah, it may be a bit sad to see things change, but a graphical change doesn't mean that the whole game is going to suck.
Unless you want this series to be like every series made by SNK, where you are looking at the same exact sprites in every game, with a minor change every six years or so.

Yes, I agree with that. That is why SNK's games did well, no changes were needed, and none were made.
But from a business standpoint, when you are working with a machine capable of rendering things in 3D, you might as well render things in 3D because that is what people want to see now.

Re: Tokyo Game Show
Now that I think about this whole thing a little more, I guess it's not so bad a thing, TMT made a good point. There is really nothing in firepro r to add to: custom rings, wrestlers, music and move sets are all downloadable, and still being updated. The only thing they could really do is change around the controls, but they are perfect as they are.
I do wish the firepro name wasnt being dragged through the mud, I'll probably never play the new one, but I will reserve judgment until more info is revealed.
---------- Post added at 11:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 PM ----------
Well I supposed the could have added 16 man death matches on online multiplayer, but whatever.
