Comic Recommendations...

Hey All,

I used to be big into reading comics when I was younger, but I got out of it in the early 90's. Just the other day, I bought the first trade paperbacks that I have in a long time. I bought The Dark Knight Returns, The Dark Knight Strikes Again, and Arkham Asylum. I also bought The Punisher story Welcome Back Frank. Out of those books I really liked the Punisher one best (I like Punisher more than Batman's current incarnation), but I liked the Bat ones too.

I have said all this to say, does anyone have any recommendations of really cool comics or Trade Paperbacks, Graphic Novels, etc. that are really good? I am not really in that world at all, so I don't know much about what is out these days. Thanks!

i'd recommend getting some comic strip collections like Calvin and Hobbes.

as for graphic novels, i recommend acquiring 300, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen. (all Frank Miller)

Pokemon Adventures is pretty good, I want to read Legend of Zelda manga, sounds cool.

I'm not into comics either WB but I got to check out the Marvel Civil War graphic novel and I thought it was awesome. If you like those characters and the universe it's definitely worth it.

Yeah, he plays a huge role in the story. Without spoiling it I'll say that he leads one side and Iron Man leads the other, they fight eventually.

@ Essie & Joegro, I did read some Conan stories back in the day, so that's a good reminder. I used to read the novels too. Very good stories (also Solomon Kane). Thanks for the compliment Joegro. I kind of am a barbarian I guess.

@ Tailsy/Ten/Crispy: I have read only a few Manga, but that would be fun as well. Is the Legend of Zelda one like the Zelda comics that used to appear n Nintendo Power? Those were pretty good.

@ Smitty, anything with the word, "Army of Darkness" sounds great. Campbell is the man.

@ SFF, I forgot to say I do have Watchmen. I liked the movies of V for Vendetta and 300, so those might be fun to read.

@ DB, is the Civil War story the one that had to do with Super Hero registration? If so that sounds pretty cool. I haven't read it, but I saw a news story on Cnn or something similar that talked about it a little.

I think I will place a big Amazon order in a day or two based on all your recommendations.

Marvel Civil War was good.

I do know that the What If? series has an update or two to the ending of the Civil War.

If you grew up reading Marvel, then I would check out the Ultimate Editions. They are reboots and reimagined story lines of the traditional Marvel heroes set in a much more modern setting.

If you'd be willing to give manga a chance, I'd have to recommend one called "Uzumaki" {zero relationship to Naruto, in case you are wondering} it's rather dark and creepy, but not in a cheap way. It's about a curse put on a town, and just how it affects everyone.
Also: Gin Tama and Black Cat are worth checking out.

In the realm of American comics, I'd have to suggest:
Any of the Metal Gear Solid comics, by Ashley Wood.
Anything featuring The Punisher.

I never read Old man Logan but I've heard good things about it. I think it's the one that has Hulks redneck kids, not sure though.
