For the love of god - HELP ME NAME THIS

i played it some time ago on a friend's platform which i cant for the life of me remember which.

It was a game about you being a human survivor of an alien invasion. i'm tempted to say it could've even been a lightgun game.

the opening sequence had an old man (possibly your father) give you a pistol and saying "here, this gun could shoot the legs off of a cockroach". i think he was dying or something.

It was first person, and like a primitive version of time crisis. each encounter with an alien you had to kill, you had a limited amount of time to decide what to shoot, and after you had completed that scene, you'd choose what to do next (ie go down the street or go down an alley or something to that extent). where you'd get a new backdrop. it wasnt always an alien you had to kill, i'm pretty sure you also met other refugees and had to decide whether to trust them or not.

i DO remember one of the aliens were called bouncers, and if i remember rightly, i think they were purple and green and used to come at you quickly bouncing up and down, this was usually when i died as i was quite young and the game was DAMN hard.

The game over screen (if i do remember rightly) was usually a newspaper article about how the human resistance had fallen, or the last human had been captured or killed. i think the character you played as was a teenage girl.

The graphics i think were kind of cartoony, possibly 2d-ish, cell shaded kind of cartoony. it was reasonably detailed though.

again, not entirely sure if it was a lightgun game or not, all i remember is that it had an age rating on it which i should've been playing at the time, and the game used to scare the sh*t out of me.

if anyone could please help me.. this game has been tormenting me for years!!!

This game sounds familiar but I'm not sure. Is it a Super scope game? That's what I was getting from your description. Of the few SS games I found two that seem close to your description-

I had to use google image search because I couldn't find any good pics otherwise.

I don't remember any light gun stuff for PC but I was never really into FPS until N64 or so.

no, those dont look like it, i think the graphics were better than that.. it was done almost in a comic-book style

again, not 100% if its a lightgun game, i only played it the once.. and i could swear it was on a console rather than a pc.

as for trying to guess a year? i really dont know, sorry if i'm not being to helpful, my memory of playing this game is so clear, and i remember that opening line so well, but other details are vague

thats on the opposite end of the spectrum now! far too cartoony! although again, thanks for the input!

i'm still googling everything i can think of myself too, but turning up with nothing.

i'd hate to think this is going to be a foreign game or something or i'm going to be a while..

I tried googling a few versions of that opening line but I think you're remembering wrong or the game is really obscure.

Keep trying to remember, any detail might trigger a memory for someone reading this.

Your game reminds me of a driving and shooting coin - op game from the 80's, but obviously it can't be the one.
The only reason I'm saying it is because that game had 'bouncers' too.

cheers, but i dont think anyone could miss out on house of the dead :P

nah, this game hadnt developed into 3d.

it could quite possibly be a very early playstation game, or an earlier console close to that era.

again, not 100% that it was a lightgun game!

as for the opening line regarding the cockroach, i am 100% certain that line was in there, because its the whole reason i remember the game.

That sounds like Escape from Cyber City that was released on the Philips CDI.

I believe the line you are referring to is "Here this can shoot the lips off a cockroach" I will never forget that line.

It was a First Person Shooter type game but it used Full Motion Video from I believe one of the Galaxy Express 999 movies.

I have been enjoying RU so far. It's great to be able to compete in games I grew up with.

I tend to have a knack for remembering obscure games. Not sure why that is.
