Sagaia (Game Boy) glitchy?

I'm not sure why, but for some reason The Game Boy Game Known As Sagaia doesn't seem to behave too well in MESS. It likes to pull a bunch of weird graphical glitches... game-ending ones. The big one I'm dealing with now is that if I get the laser and fight the stage 2 boss with it, the graphics glitch out and the game becomes unplayable.

Has anyone else seen this yet? I wonder if this is why competition has been so limited for that game...
