Pac-Man 2
Pac-Man is a classic. We all love it. If you hate the original Pac-man, then you have no soul. If you hate Pac-man 2, well that's normal. Know why? Well, Pac-man 2 is the worst sequel to a good game ever and deserves to be buried with Sonic Next-Gen and the Zelda CD-I games on Pluto where all games that ruined a good franchise go to die. It's unrelated to Pac-man, and it's hardly even related to gaming. It plays like a forth rate FMV game, and Pac-man is a wimp. Remember how wimpy Tails became in Sonic Next-Gen when he threw rings and fell instantly instead of slowly descending to the ground? Yeah, Pac-man makes him look like Chuck Norris.
Graphics
Pac-Man 2's graphics are pretty good. It looks like a cartoon and manages to have a bright, colorful, and magical atmosphere. The animation is fluid and everything looks good, aside from occasional pixelation. The graphics could have been better, but they're pretty impressive for 16-bit due to detailed environments and character models.
In a way, these graphics are like a face-lift. They make this game look beautiful, but they just hide that it's really an ugly disgrace.
Sound
Now at first you hear this music and you think "well, this can't be so bad" but just wait. You then listen to this music for almost an entire game. The sound is like water-boarding in 250 degree weather. At first you feel refreshed, but it slowly tortures you.
One positive here is that there's no voice assigned to Pac-man, avoiding the Bubsy problem. Also, the sound effects are bearable (albeit mediocre) and manage to save the sound from TOTAL failure.
Game play
Instead of controlling Pac-man you control a slingshot that fires at things in Pac-man's environment. This becomes tedious considering that Pac-man is afraid of everything (the guy that ate ghosts is afraid of spiders) and that there's no interesting moments here. Instead of having you fight through hoards of enemies, you just shoot occasional obstacles. Pac-man doesn't want to listen to half of what you tell him, and because of the position of the slingshot used to shoot obstacles, it's impossible to judge where your pellets are going.
Pac-man can pick up power pellets to become "super-pac-man" or something. So what does he do? Does he kill your enemies? Does he get you past the obstacle you're on? No, he flies back and forth a few times before continuing? It's useless! It's like if Mario got a mushroom then jumped up and down and went back to normal.
This game is more boring than a cut-scene in "Biochemistry: The video game" and will have you asleep at the controller after 7 minutes. Watching Pac-man walk down the street going to BUY MILK (no, I'm not making this up) is like watching Mario talk to Sonic about emotions. It's boring, and it's not how we want to see our gaming superstars.
Half of the obstacles do not need to be attacked, and it's all trial and error based. You see a skateboard, and remember picking one up and riding it in Adventure Island, then assume that you can do it here. You don't know skateboards kill you, so Pac-man slips on his skateboard gets hit in the head and dies. Oh yeah, and when he dies, he doesn't die like he did in the original, he has a lame death sequence.
Game play O.8/10
Replay value
There's no play value here. Replay value is there if you want to torture your friends.
Difficulty/Tilt
This game really is pretty easy. Despite occasional frustration, I very rarely died in this game. This is because you don't need quick reflexes OR quick mind to play through this game. As for tilt? The difficulty is basically the same throughout this game.
Pac-man 2 is a failure. When I played this game, I was looking forward to being the man of Pac once more. Instead I was this yellow wimp in a boring game that neither qualifies as FMV game or regular game.
Score:
1.3/10
