Is it me or are all of the games freezing?

Wow, this is my first post in almost a month but here it goes. Whenever I play one of the games now here like Paperboy II for the Genesis or even lite mode for Metroid on the NES, the games seem to freeze for like a minute and then start back up again with a hyper fast speed. This didn't happen before when the site came back from its update but now it happens to me all the time. Is this happening to anyone else, maybe its the server or maybe its just my internet connnection. I did just download a new Yahoo toolbar. Well, please respond and thank you for your time.

Your Internet connection and the server just have to do with the load time. Once the game starts it is your CPU and Memory that cause problems.

The Yahoo toolbar could cause issues. I have not used the Yahoo toolbar but most toolbars slow your computer down. Make sure you have the newest version of Java installed - link is in my sig.

Rebooting your computer solves more problems than you would expect.

Close any programs you do not need open.

Run a virus scanner and an adware/spyware/malware scanner.

Re: Is it me or are all of the games freezing?

Wow, thanks for the info Kong. I'll do that. Oh, yeah I have a question I thought you might be able to answer. When my brother was trying to play this game Maplestory, he had to let our Norton Internet Security down to play it but now I get all these weird pop-ups claiming that my computer is sending out copies of my computers information every five minutes. Is there a way to stop these pop-ups from occuring? Your information is much appreciated. I just got one just now.

Why did you have to drop your security?

Use firefox

Get spywareblaster and run it, as well as Spybot search and destroy, and ad-aware. All are free programs that will keep junk off of your computer. You can go to downloads.com to get them I think, or just google the suckers.

This article has 20 tips to get junk off of your computer.

Lastly try this-
Go to, run, type %temp%, select all and delete.

Re: Is it me or are all of the games freezing?

Thanks Hobbes, I just deleted them and by the way, should I worry that I deleted something important. Well, how do I know if I deleted anything important? Oh yeah, the reason my brother dropped our security is so he can play the game because the game was being blocked and the irony of this is that he still can't play the game! Wait a minute, I just started downloading the ad-ware and its asking me for my organization, I'm still in school though and now its asking me for my serial number and I don't know what it is. Are these pieces of information necessary or are they just for corporations installing this software?

Re: Is it me or are all of the games freezing?

All of what Hobbes said is good. I highly reccommend running all four programs that Hobbes mentioned plus a antivirus program. All the programs need to be regularly updated - once a week or at least once a month.

The pop ups you get saying "your computer is at risk and you need to ..." are scams. Do not click on them. The only legit security pop ups you should ever receive are directly from your antivirus program and they will not look like a browser pop up.

Also check out http://www.update.microsoft.com often.

There should never be anything important in the temp directory.

I think all of what Hobbes said is good except his link. It links to an article that has lots of programs to download and install. I have not used any of those programs but I suspect they will slow your computer down more than they will help.

Firefox - web browser with spell check and extra security and a better user interface.

Spybot - removes and prevents malware.
adaware - removes and prevents malware. I run both but you can get by with just one of these.

spywareblaster - blocks bad sites.

and a good antivirus program should be enough to keep all bad stuff away if you keep them updated.

I have not played Mapplestory but it probably does not need you to completely disable your antivirus software. It just needs you to forward a port through your firewall which is a part of your antivirus. If they told you to turn it off then they did so because it was easier than explaining how to do it properly. If it is telling you you can not play because of your antivirus software and you disabled it and still can not play then the problem is probably your router. You need to forward whatever port Mapplestory wants to use. Mapplestory or the router maker (example Linksys) should be able to explain how.

Turn your antivirus back on now.

Re: Is it me or are all of the games freezing?

I have not used any of the programs in the article linked above, so I cannot say how well they work. I just linked to it for some more options.

Re: Is it me or are all of the games freezing?

Yeah, it's okay but we're stilling having those stupid pop-ups from AV System Care. Does anyone know how long this will last because its really annoying. I just got another one right now! No joke! Great advice though because it's working for the most part.
