Honestly I stopped playing Fallout3 for now. I just don't feel like playing it for some reason. It's definitely not as epic as the first two games.

You know, now that I think about it, 100-150 hours isn't all that much time. Play a game for a couple hours a day for 2 months and you've reached that level.

i never experienced the npc thing but for sme reason if my xbox is standing it doesnt freeze nearly as much as laying down and the game just freezes a lot with me

In my game a basic quest NPC was gone all the sudden. I searched all over town, I even waited in his room for about two game days before I had to look it up online. After reading he sometimes "falls" from his position I found him wedged behind a building, dead and useless. Not an important npc but he was still useful up until then.

That sucks especially when it is someone you need to complete a quest. Yeah for me there was this dude in Megaton that I sold scrap metal to. He just up and disappeared for no reason one day. Then here and there other characters would disappear. Once I realize what was happening, I started saving multitudes of files so that I can go back if someone else disappears. It pretty annoying.

Same here. I think games are longer in general these days. For me I just never got tired of Oblivion because there were just so many interesting quests. I am the same way. I try to get 100% completion in about every game I play. I am the same way. I haven't played Fallout 3 in a few weeks. It's not that I won't play again, but I just kind of lost interest for now. That is not really normal for me, and I honestly think a lot of the reason is that I just can't stand to look at it anymore. The other thing is that I also have not found the quests as fluid as in Oblivion. In Oblivion there seemed to be a real flow to how you got quests, and I have had a harder time initiating them for some reason. I'm not just trying to compare Fallout 3 to Oblivion as they are different series, but being that it is the same team it just surprises me that it seems like there are steps backwards in some areas.

@ mj, I also have the game crash on me alot! I would say it crashes once for about every hour of play.

Yeah winnebagel it was the same Npc for me, the scrap metal guy in Megaton. He's not important though, there's like 3 other Npcs that make a better trade, but it's still unacceptable.

I agree. He wasn't super important, but it is very annoying. I didn't even know the game had this bug until this happened (I looked it up online afterwards). I just trade the scrap to the guy in the Underworld now. I also had a lot of glitches with the quest where you have to guide Abraham Washington and his people to the memorial. I think I had to restore the game over 20 times due to characters in the party constantly disappearing.

Yeah my brother had that problem with the escort thing too. Some of the NPCs are borderline retarded in this mission.

I think you should turn in scrap metal to the rebel brotherhood guys. I forget the name atm but they are somewhat south east of megaton, can't miss it since you'll see brotherhood and a turret.
I forget the details but I researched it before and it is the best deal. You get your choice of items like Stimpacks, ammo or something else. I can't be bothered to check atm.

I guess it's an unmarked quest. I read about it and then stumbled on the NPC while exploring. I think it's a great deal. He takes all kinds of stuff and trades for Stim Packs,Rad Away, Frags or 5.56mm ammo. I used all that stuff so it was win win for me. Actually I after I met this npc I had tons of all that stuff. Everything he takes for trade I didn't use anyways.

in my opinion Fall out 3 is good but its not great

the graphics are awesome the game controls are solid

basically Fall out 3 is Oblivion with guns instead of magic.

so if you like Oblivion type games you will like Fall out 3

Except the major difference is the setting. Oblivions fantasy world turned off a lot people. Fallout is great for it's dark and desolate world. It's a great change of pace from the standard fantasy or sci fi setting we usually see.
Dudebro gives it 5/5 stars and two thumbs up. Oblivion gets a 4/5 for having a stupid leveling system.

at the recommendation of some of the people here, i decided to give fallout 3 a shot, and i love it.

i think winnbagel said something about 120 hours, i was taking to my brother about how you could put 60 into that game without breaking a sweat.

i definately don't like the level cap at 20, and i definately found myself not even bothering to kill enemies or pick locks or whatever after i capped out.

i have debated replaying the game under evil karma (as opposed to good that i'm doing now)...goodbye megaton!!!!, but i'll probably just get the achievements and send it back.

has anyone played the downloadable expansion pack?

ive played them both and they are alright but not worth ten bucks at all

I think I fall in the opposite camp because I got really bored with Fallout 3's setting. After a short time everything just started to look the same and I saw a lot of parts where it seemed like the programmers got lazy and repeated things in different areas. For me Oblivions' fantasy was one of the biggest selling points, as it was almost like having a game set in Middle Earth or something. Everything looked lush and there was a major variety in terms of terrain and weather conditions. I admit though I do enjoy fantasy games and settings, so for me it was not a turn off.

Also, I love the idea of radio stations (especially the oldies one), but they only had like 20 songs in the game, so it gets repetitive very quickly. As much as I like hearing Danny Kaye and the Andrew Sisters singing "I'll Stay Right Here" is starts to get old after the 150th play.

The other thing about Fallout 3 is that to me the quests seem much less organic (and far fewer in general) than in Oblivion. It seems like it is very easy to screw up in FO3 and completely miss a lot of quests. This could happen in Oblivion too, but I found quests easier to discover for some reason.

I ended up playing Oblivion for 450 hours and Fallout 3 for about 130 hours so far (I haven't gone back to it, but I will at some point). I don't think it's a one or the other choice, as the sheer length alone in each game is probably worth the money. I just really didn't like FO3's leveling system (it seemed too basic for me) or the level cap. I liked how you could level up each individual attribute in Oblivion, so even if you hit max level you could still build attributes. I think I will still try FO3's DLC just so I can do everything, but I don't see myself really playing through again (I might do a quick play for the Achievement Points, but that's it).

Maybe it's just me, but I heard over and over that FO3 is Oblivion with guns, but it ultimately to me it feels more like a game that would have been made 5 years before Oblivion and then Oblivion would have been the successor, but it was the opposite.

I would give Fallout 3 3/5 and Oblivion 5/5.

I didn't say I prefered one over the other. If Oblivion didn't have the messed up leveling system it'd be the same as Fallout3 for me.

As a fan of Oblivion you must know what I mean by messed up leveling system right? In order to control what skill points you get you have to make your major skills stuff you won't really use. Kinda defeats the purpose of creating a job class if you can't set you prefered skills as major ones. Well you can but then you'll be all gimped out by level 10. I've decided when I play the game again I'm not gonna care and I'll see how ruined I can make my character.

I know where you're coming from. I think it just comes down to preference. I wanted to create as varied character as I could. I remember I read some info online to get tips on character creation. I believe I eventually maxed out about every category except for Archery. I liked how even when you reached the max level you could still level up individual skills. I thought that was a cool idea as opposed to doing the generic points per level up. Also Oblivion has a lot of items that can really enhance your skills.

One thing I really did like in Fallout 3 was the V.A.T.S. system. Very sweet!
